Oh Lord, here we go~

Comparing Ayu to Lady G is silly, we all know when you throw another big name into the conversation fans from both sides get heated so let's just drop it, please.

TeamAyu2004 1st June 2011 05:51 AM

Haha, Lady G. I like that nick name:
but yes, i think there is no need for comparing. (although I do think a full version of ayumi's song would kick so much more *** then Lady G's music, in general.)
Both the ayumi and ayumi's song are good in their own ways... :yes

SURREAL__RAINBOW 1st June 2011 06:12 AM

comparing a short preview of a song to an album? makes no sense.

jbrat2219 1st June 2011 06:14 AM

Ayu's first single after an album is almost always left overs. It's a good thing I love her albums so I don't mind. I'm sure single #2 will be outrageously different.

ストロボ・EdGE 1st June 2011 06:30 AM

^That's pretty true.

glitter would've been a lot better in Secret than in GUILTY, Mirrorcle World is a given since it was already in GUILTY as Mirror, Sunrise was electro diarrhea from NEXT LEVEL, MOON sounded very RnRC-y, and now from the looks of it, progress sounds like it would've fit perfectly well with Love songs.

bokura wa susunde yuku

nanika o shinjirareru
kokoro ga mimamotteru kara

wow wow wow
wow wow yeah

Aahh, ok, I understand the lyric much better now. And also why it's titled progress. :D

Thanks for sharing!!!!

New translation:

Quote:

If in that time, at that place
I was fighting
And my reason for doing so
Was because I chose to be here now

I used to avoid facing my past
Not referring to it, leaving it behind
Did I then forgive such a past
Because I wished to be forgiven myself?

That time when we were free
To be ourselves, is far gone
And though we can’t live through
This time with just innocent smiles

Let us move on
Even so, let us continue to move on
As long as we can believe in something
Our hearts will watch over us

wow wow wow
wow wow yeah~!!

We know there's tons of fans of the girl over here, that's no need to bring her up for criticism on a topic that isn't even about her in the first place...

I like the album for the bigger part. She is a musician and the isthisLOL! only gave an example of what they thought was random-sounding or whatever. It's the same way people bring Ayu up whenever they discuss sales and pretty much anything else. Don't really see what's wrong with that :)

I agree with the group who said it sounds like "Sending Mail"s chorus with "blossom"s verses—a promising combination, but so far I'm just into the chorus...

I don't know, these verses are REALLY iffy at this point, but I guess only the full song will either make or break it...

koumori 1st June 2011 12:14 PM

Still liking it!

And everytime someone bring Ayu uo to discuss sales, things go wrong too... Why keep comparing when we all know it only brings stupid AHS drama? I can understand it on a thread about a comparation, but really, this is about Ayu's news song, not about how random Gaga's album sounds...

dzinup 1st June 2011 04:13 PM

Thanks Misa for the lyrics!!

this song is totally growing... I keep listening and listening :D

Holy **** discussion o.0

I was saying that melodies on Gaga's album sound random, that was NOT a quality statement. Random does NOT mean bad in this case. If I like the album or not is another thing. Random notes are a stilistic device in, for example, trance music. And clashig notes, which tends to happen if something sounds random, are used in some rock, metal and classical/neoclassical music on purpose to create an effect. See "Art of Life" by X-Japan for that.

I was simply pointing out that "progress" follows all the traditional rules of songwriting to the person that called it random. And if something follows rules it is not random. There are 2 possibilities. Either "progress" is random but just happens to have all notes be harmonic(highly unlikely) or it is NOT random.
While some songs on Gaga's new album do not appear to do that, I was not saying either one is bad. I used Gaga's new album because it is one of the few pop albums I can think of that have that and are popular and new enough for people to remember the songs.

And Ayumi has had clashing notes before, mostly in her CREA-era, doesn't mean the songs were bad(though for some IMO it amde them worse), it just showed that she was an amateur songwriter, a VERY talented one, but amateur.

ストロボ・EdGE 1st June 2011 05:02 PM

Oh GAWD, apparently Gaga is the new Kuu for everyone to compare about.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the PV for progress had some action in it? Kind of like how Rule was slightly thematically like Dragon Ball.

Then why didn't you just compare Ayu to Ayu instead of Gaga in the first place if you wanted to make a point? Any time you compare Ayu's music to another (popular) artist, it's going to start trouble even if you didn't intend for it to be a negative statement on either part lol. We either have a bashing thread for the mentioned artist or we have a "this artist is better than Ayu" thread. Either way the fans get *****y so it's best to leave Gaga & Co. out of this.

So what example do you have of clashing notes from CREA's works?
