Congrats to Ayu!!! She could definitely have reached Yuming's record if everything went well last year. but i guess this makes A CLASSICAL's #1 all the more special.

What i saw on Facebook was that:

for ORICON:
1. This is the SECOND Classical album to reach the #1 position
2. The FIRST Classical album to reach #1 position on the week it was released

Looking at the thread again, it says BOOKOFF and 125yen. Maybe they made a mistake since another person said they only found one LOVE CD only for 1250yen, so it's likely that whoever marked it made a mistake or it was misread, haha.

wow A CLASSICAL is doing so gooooddd!!!!
where most of the international fans got disappointed over this release, but clearly japanese fans love it..

really unexpected to see A Classical with a horrible tracklist and cover hit #1. Congratz Ayu

Minttulatte 15th January 2013 10:49 AM

What was the first classical album to hit #1 on Oricon if A Classical was the second? :O

truehappiness 15th January 2013 10:50 AM

It was a compilation album of classical music used in various TV programs and movies called 'image'.

It sold 1.45 million overall and is still selling today. Ayu's accomplishment however is that she's the first artist to have an individual classical album become #1... or something like that.

Am I the only person who thinks it's weird that in a country of 130,000,000 people, a cd can be number 1 even if only 25,049 people buy it?

ayumisrael 15th January 2013 04:47 PM

Most people aren't music purchasers and if they do they probably use illegal means or legal digital means.

BlackSilence 15th January 2013 04:47 PM

^^lol it's just as surprising with the whole world i think xD

Yeah, I know. It just means that nobody really buys CDs anymore. I just feel it renders the whole chart pretty meaningless.

Anyway, good for Ayu to reach #1 again while the chart still exists :P

Japan's best selling album sold 7 million... "only" 5% of the population bought it... It's not like most of the population ever bought music. :P

i've always wondered that, 7 million copies only?? I've always heard that japan has a bigger population than that. :innocent

brener 15th January 2013 05:57 PM

rly good sales for a remix album!!

Delicious n Bold 15th January 2013 05:57 PM

^ Japan's population is about 127 million, decreasing every year
By 2100 it will be about 50 million.

Anyway. Such a small number but I'm still glad ayu did it! A great way to start off the year!
