I swear if you keep doing this artpop thing i'm gonna shove it up your... :D

Nice interview, but i wonder how long her "run away phase" is according to her, because personally, i feel it has started when she married Mannie, so since 2011, i don't know i felt like i couldn't connect to her as much as before.

I think it was pre-NEXT LEVEL, possibly during the 10th anniversary.

Lol, I was gonna say, that damn ARTPOP reference. I do find it a bit humorous though.

I feel like after Rock'n'Roll Circus era her public persona changed drastically, with all these divorces and marriages

Let's put on A ONE and feel the music.
I've somehow listened to the album 25 times and still don't know all the lyrics...

Japanese people hate her now, at least this is how i feel it? It's funny because if it was to happen here, in Europe or in the US, we wouldn't care at all that a celebrity got divorced or dated some guy to end up dumping him 6 months later, we'd laugh and move on, but japanese people seem to be really passionate about relationships.

Marcelo 17th April 2015 10:02 PM

I don't think she's hated in anyway, when I've talked to Japanese people they always end their sentences with something like "yeah she is this and that, BUT she's still the biggest singer in our country" so I think they have respect for her as an artist, but they don't really care about her, whether it is cos of the "scandals" or because she was so over exposed before, or both.

Mirrorcle Monster 17th April 2015 10:37 PM

I also met a lot of Japanese students last year on my erasmus in London and of course asked them about Ayu. No one really hated her, they just did nit care about her anymore. They were aware that she was divorced a couple of times but they did nit care too much either. I felt respect for her tho, they recognised her as some kind of icon. It was different with Hikki and specially with Namie, I kinda feel like both of them are above Ayu in terms of respect and status. The faces they made when talking about Koda were really funny haha. But among the japanese people I met, none of them really was a fan of the divas. There was YUI fans (I guess she was popular during their teenage years, which are the years in which we are more devoted to what we like I guess haha), Ikimonogakari fans (mostly the girls), AKB48 fans (most of them had their favourite members and it was always a discussion when I met them), Kana Nishino fans (a couple of girls) and a lot of J-rock fans (most of them boys). It was funny they knew I was an Ayu fan (ive always wondered what they thought about a guy being an ayu fan lol) some would come to me to discuss that she was releasing something or that she was in the news for this and that.

ayumisrael 17th April 2015 10:43 PM

Let's just be clear. ayu divorced once and got married twice lol.
She didn't marry maro (thanks god).

She is now married happily (hopefully) on her 2nd marriage.

Mirrorcle Monster 17th April 2015 10:46 PM

To make a similar comparison I would say that Ayu is kinda like Mariah Carey. Both females who have broke all the records for soloists, who used to be huge back in the day but have lost their popularity. When people think Mariah they respect her because they remember Mariah singing Hero. And when they think about Ayu they remember her singing M. Probably for the general public Mariah hasn't released anything since Touch My Body and same for Ayu since BLUE BIRD? It's not that they hate them, they are both part of the past right now. I oersonally dont care about this, since Ayu herself has said through her lyrics that she does not want to be who she was.

ayumisrael 17th April 2015 10:51 PM

I don't know how many huge hits Maria had but with ayu she has a bunch of songs that most people would recognize while hearing them.

Boys & Girls, SEASONS, M, evolution, Dearest, HANABI, Voyage, CAROLS, HEAVEN, BLUE BIRD, Together When..., JEWEL (maybe Days), and there might be more like A Song for xx, monochrome, appears, Fly high, vogue, SURREAL, NEVER EVER, July 1st and more that are familiar with the general public (at least that are 20+).
The younger generation wouldn't know ayu's classics, at least the early ones since they were babies/little kids.

attractive nausea 17th April 2015 10:52 PM

My friend went to London last year for some kind of program where you meet teenagers from all over the world and get to improve your english, she met japanese girls who were like between 15 and 17 years old, she asked them about ayumi and she said that some of them didn't know her, i was like "is that even possible?", apparently it is.

ayumisrael 17th April 2015 10:58 PM

Of course it is... When she was the most popular act in Japan they were 1-3 years old and when she completely stopped being popular they were 11-13 so it's just understandable.

Mirrorcle Monster 17th April 2015 11:06 PM

The group I met was 20+. I don't know how many songs of her they knew, I was very surprised because one of them knew and loved INSPIRE. When she performed it that year at Kohaku she wrote me "That was the song I liked from Ayu but couldn't remember". Out of all of her songs I was surprised she knew INSPIRE haha

Pieces_of_SEVEN 17th April 2015 11:13 PM

on the contrary, I follow some japanese girls who are around that age, and their profiles are dedicated to ayu. So it all depends, I guess.

Yes, but we are talking about two different audiences here. If their profiles are dedicated to Ayu they are her fans, so of course they know her and her songs. But I am talking about her image among those who dont follow her

Delicious n Bold 17th April 2015 11:32 PM

So when does everyone think A ONE Classical is coming out?

Pieces_of_SEVEN 17th April 2015 11:40 PM
