you guys do know that they're just replaying the cutesy part over in this video right? it's probably only the beginning 20 seconds or something

ka♡ri. 17th March 2009 08:58 PM

wow! this looks totally cute and funny - but hot! i can't wait to get my CD + DVD !! :weep

and seriously? PREVIOUS LEVEL? Not only is that rude, but untrue. try artists like Namie - she's never gone to the next level. she's STILL stuck in her boring "hip pop" music. :rolleyes get a clue.

Mari-chan 17th March 2009 09:29 PM

I really think she need another name for the alb, something like Previous Level not NEXT

I actually think this kind of PV is a step foward. In a way that it's completely different from everyone imagined, it's not an obvious thing. If she was just looking all fierce and sexy in the whole PV, then you could call Previous Level, because it's sth that most artists do. At least that's the way I feel.

And I don't mean I really love it and all, because we've seen so little. Let's see if Takehide will be able to create a coherent idea this time (because imo he couldn't in the 2 videos he directed for Ayu before).

Ayumiko 17th March 2009 09:57 PM

^I think shimomura directed sparkle pv

ren'ai 17th March 2009 10:23 PM

It's too short to fully judge but so far, it just looks odd to me. I hope the full version is better

neuteka 17th March 2009 10:37 PM

it looks kind of cute and weird... but fun :)

TeeMo 17th March 2009 10:58 PM

Seems Sparkle's PV will be very interesting...^^

dreamland2.0 17th March 2009 11:00 PM

I like how they are comparing the two different eras! Seems like it's going to be interesting after all :)

Andrenekoi 17th March 2009 11:32 PM

It looks like a parody... Like... "I'm not a dumb-eternally-14-years-old-cute-virgin-idol and women should not be like that", and it matches very well with how I undersood the lyrics...

GO AYU! GIRL POWER! *burn some bras*

SunshineSlayer 17th March 2009 11:38 PM

^ But once again, I'm not sure how that equals "girl power." Sure its nice sometimes to be bold and daring, but not if your only objective is to go and dance up on a guy in a club. (as the sparkle lyrics seem to suggest). That's more immature than mature imo. Be bold and daring, but don't take responsibility for granted either, would be a better and more empowering message imo. The 80s idol era has its faults to, such as promoting a fantasy of a pure virginal girl, which likely may not have been true. However both eras have their strengths and downfalls. I think its wrong to inherently classify one era as being better than the other.

Are you serious? Her music has changed very dramatically over the course of her career and is still changing.(compare her stuff from the past year to her stuff from just a year or two ago; quite different.)

Sironigous 17th March 2009 11:45 PM

...what?

I hoped the whole thing would focus around the red and purple thing...

XDXD

Considering that in Japan women should be like the 80's idols I don't think that's anything wrong with the way ayu is delivering the message... She is only being the total oposite to what was considered "right" and that's totally normal when people do something like that and go against some society culture like she is doing (not going to say right now, cause she is doing it for quite sometime)

To us, living here on the west side of greenwitch where a fierce, sexy women
image is very common since Madonna, it can look a little off... But there, this is that common, not for japanese idols... That's why Koda shows have much more women than men in the audience... This kind of image over there is not sexy to men, the idol thing is... thats why Ai Otsuka is aways on the top of the "who would you like to f* I mean... date" polls...

And I think this is a natural evolution of what Ayu is doing since LOVEppears where she started to get more and more sexy... (I read somewhere that the top-less cover really was something back then... even if it doesn't look that bold anymore)

What she is doing IMO is saying "girls, take control over your own sexuality... and make whatever you want about it", and I really like this message...

Beauty4123 17th March 2009 11:55 PM

wow, the PV looks so crazy! i think i'll love the full version :P

Too bad. The PV really takes the edgy-ness of the song out.
I wish they stuck to the "red" ayu part and carried on with that.

Agreed. I feel like what we're seeing of the PV just doesn't come hard enough. The little "cute" scene with the yellow dress is fine, just not for this song. It feels totally wrong. :-/

Actually its pretty blatant in the lyrics.

And you make some good points Andrenekoi. Still though, the Sparkle direction, isn't really my favorite thing that Ayu has done. :) I think she has gotten across the same message before in much better and not quite so blatant ways.

I especially don't like the first verse and specifically the last line where she says the girls are letting their strength take a rest while seemingly going to a club to dance with guys. Shouldn't it be the opposite if she really wants to preach girl power? ie, the girls should be strong, not putting their strength aside. <--That's always been the message she has had in the past, but not so this time.

GRACE 17th March 2009 11:58 PM

I don't know whether I'm more horrified now or less horrified now :3

We'll see how it goes XD

Yumsushi 18th March 2009 12:00 AM

This is hilarious. I wonder if this guy finally got it right with Sparkle. 1 more week!

GRACE 18th March 2009 01:05 AM

Hey, since we got a preview of Sparkle, does that mean that the album promo PV is going to be... Sparkle...?
