I don't know why I laughed so hard about this comment: "The difference between her and Utada is like heaven and earth".
|
She's constantly performing old songs.
She'll constantly be compared to when she was in her youth and able to sing them. In terms of the general public, they very rarely get to see her sing songs recorded recently with her current vocal abilities in mind. I think staying off tv is a double edged sword. On one hand, not going on TV leaves you a forgotten has been, but going on opens up the discussions about your failures. Whatever, really. |

Be the way netizens are much kinder to Utada. Probably because she's down to earth rather than diva. Her voice remains the same as well, I think it helps too. |
Those comments are a bit sad and true. But i think its probably just the timing. 90% of the times I saw her live, she sounded really well. There are really great performances vocal-wise here and there too but often these days, she would sound bad when the spotlight is on hers.
I myself must admit that she sounded kind of bad on her recent M-sta performance and its just that many people from different fandoms are also watching it. Perhaps they just don't like her, perhaps they aren't even aware of her hearing condition or perhaps they're just really concerned about what has been happening on her.. |
The TA Tour has a new name

Comments like that are not shocking when it comes to ayu. Since the mid-2000s she's been getting criticised because she's no longer the phenomenon she used to be. But she never would have been able to maintain that anyway.
I find it sad when people are overly harsh on her vocals these days. Like they do understand the woman is deaf in one ear right? That is going to affect singing and pitching like crazy. Also, ayu was NEVER known for her vocals. If you watch old tv show recordings she ain't really all that back then either. |

yeah yeah the same sh*t year after year ... It's sad but at the same time everybody is able to see the difference between today and the past and I'm pretty sure she herself knows that ! The day she became deaf of her left ear she said goodbye to her voice & her pitch control ... From 2003 to the begining of 2007 nearly all her lives were pretty on point but from Talkin to myself to now it's too irregular and inconsistant ! It's definitly not because she is not well trained (obviously she has a technique) it's simply because she is deaf and she overworked her voice after all these years without rest ... this impacted her career no doubt about it sadly :/
The comparison is a bit exaggerated because vocally Ayu has never been at her level but she makes me think of Mariah Carey ! people always bring her to how she was in her prime ! |

Can anyone agree with that her late 2014-2015 vocals were great? That A song is Born and A Song for XX were really good.

I don't really get people saying her voice was great during the begining of her career... Her technique (or lack of it) was really damaging and it's not like she could sing on key all that much back them either.
Actually, I don't get why would someone come for Ayu because of her live singing at any point of her career. |

I enjoy listening to her live singing. She is loud and hits the right stuff for me. |
AHhhh the tour dates look great! It bums me out I have a research project I can`t extract myself from while I`m there to see her :(((.

Ayu really needs to lose her vibratos. Her voice isn't so soft and delicate anymore. She also kinda prolongs it a little too much. There's a reason why people always make fun of it. Otherwise, her voice changed greatly every few years, often sounding more rough and loud. It's a shame that she's not singing softer songs on tv, they would have had a bigger impact than her shouting/voice breaking on higher notes.
As for this tour, I'm so excited. |

I'm sorry, I don't trust your judgment, because we attended the same date of AT 2015 and you said she did great, and I said it was the worst vocals I've heard in person. :-P:-P |
