And with Timmy - he's OK, but... how to put it... Too much of him and it's kind of "in your face" stuff...

Agreed. I was perfectly fine with him during POM, but ever since Ayu put all the draq queen make-up on him... I mean, sometimes it's fine and somewhat enjoyable too, but he's been there for too much lately...

Yep - we are in complete agreement on this.
Remembering 2000-2002 concerts - there was almost nothing else but Ayu. Then as time went by there were more dancers, acrobats, vocal by supporting singers, guitar solos etc. Which is perfectly understandable and I am completely OK with this.
But I am not OK with the guy in a drag opening the whole concert and actually singing...
Hey, no matter, I still listen to all the stuff prior to about 2008-2009 and have had a complete and full collection of everything, but I do not want to buy the new stuff. Like... why would I fork over money for something that will just collect the dust on the shelf, as I do not like it much. Basically if I have an hour or two, there is no way that I'll listen to 'FIVE' if I can listen to 'Duty', 'RAINBOW', or stick my audio DVD of 'My STORY' into the player...
I will continue watching Ayu with great interest and, as I wrote in other threads a while ago, my eneabba.net is not going to go down, it will just continue to be "Ayu: 1998-2010". Even if for some weird reason I'll decide to make it current again - it will take me at least five-six months of pretty much full time work, which I do not have.
cheers, nick

I will say you are missing out on some good stuff... living in the past is never fun imo.

Eh, you're not missing out on a lot of great new stuff.

Nostalgia trips are the way to go :yes (at least for now)

I think there are some gems from the last 3 album releases that should be listened to that live up to or even surpass what she had produced up until 2010. (FIVE, Party Queen, LOVE again+Tell All)

I agree. I've been an Ayu fan since around "GUILTY"'s release, and I don't feel that her musical quality has decreased at all. Her old songs are awesome ("evolution", "M", "Moments", "A Song for xx" etc.) but I also find many of her recent songs awesome, "BRILLANTE" being a particularly large favorite and "Tell All" being the most recent one. Sure, nostalgia is great, but it's always finite and after years of reminiscing you easily overshadow the flaws of the past with thoughts of how wonderful and golden that time was.
Then again, it's all about taste, and Ayu's music has obviously changed over the years so people that loved her music back in the day may not find her recent music to be in their taste. Nick's longing for the old Ayu is not in any way wrong, but it is, as nostalgia always is, biased, and bias can easily prevent someone from finding enjoyment where they otherwise would be able to.
So I can't tell anyone "hey, stop being nostalgic and realize how awesome she is now!" because that wouldn't be right at all, but I can recommend people to look beyond what Ayu and her music "used to be", just listen to her music and watch her performances as if you have never listened to her/watched her before, and if you still don't like it, it's absolutely fine. :)

Yes! Ivy alone slays most of her discography, imo!:thud:thud:thud
it's easily in my Ayu top 10!

Any news about the Overseas version of A BEST LIVE ?
:( I wanna order the edition with photobook, but the JPN version is very expansive

kagami 29th November 2013 11:47 PM

I know I'm in the minority here but I personally think Ayu has been at her best since R'n'R Circus. I find myself listening to these albums more than any of her others.

I actually don't really care about the photobook, I just want the OS press of the DVD released already. :thud

^Me too! I've been checking yesasia almost daily hoping for some news :tconfused

Regarding Timmy... Here's one area which I feel Ayu got it completely wrong and I've been hoping since PoM that she would eventually wise up and remove him from the lives or make him dress presentably at least.

I don't think his dressing is her idea, I feel it's Timmy's own decision and she lets him run with it. Problem is IMO, he looks dreadful. If he was slender, gorgeous and perfectly fitted for cross-dressing, sure, but he looks oversized and the whole thing feels forced.

It's a stage and things are supposed to be beautiful or gelling with the other things or stage but he sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn't even sound that great.

So here's me still hoping...

A few members here have asked Timmy via facebook and twitter (myself included) about his choices of costumes, and he's said that its mostly Ayu making the calls on his costume. She decides what she wants him and the other troupe members to wear. People might not like it but that's how she wants to portray him, so that's why he wears a lot of corsets and over-the-top outfits. If you look at deji diary pictures or even SUPER AYU, when they're out drinking or whatever he just wears regular clothes. :shrug

truehappiness 3rd December 2013 02:16 PM

It must be because she knows that he does that kind of thing outside of his 'normal' life though, right?

Earth_maiden 3rd December 2013 04:40 PM

Why don't you ask him?

I don't think Yesasia will be selling OS press dvd unless they're importing Taiwan version.
Avex hongkong have already stated that they will not be having their own version of this concert while taiwan is still trying to get the permit.
Imo I think that there's a high chance that taiwan will not be able to release this concert too... they have been dragging way too long without progress.
I'll miss the subs =(

Heavenly 5th December 2013 11:36 PM

Apparently, on eBay, several sellers (who normally sell the overseas/taiwan presses of Ayu's releases) have stated on their auctions for A BEST LIVE that the release date is on 6th January.
