i also think that she suits ROCK the best, but i'm still enjoy her trying new stuff.. it's not the best but still enjoyable, at least for me.

Unfortunately it seems that Japanese fans prefer her non-rock tracks. When poll results for 50 best songs for A Best Live tour were out, it was very clear because barely one rock track got into the list. So despite dreaming of new rock songs by Ayu, I don't really expect her to record new ones...

Looks like Colours wouldn't be able to get higher , maybe there will be a last min boost of sales since today was the last day of the showcase

Lol I'm aware. And still, ew.
I mean I don't hate Frozen or anything but the extent to which I find it overrated cannot be defined.

And I think it's funny that that's what pushed ayu out of the top 5. And it makes me wonder what her actual sales are *sigh*

How long ago was the frozen ost released? It feels a little embarrassing to be honest. Then again with the sparse promotional efforts avex probably wasn't aiming for or expecting great sales. They got what they wanted I guess.

AyUmIXx 6th July 2014 04:17 PM

oh no.. so out of 5 already? T__T
i hope it'll go up, ganbatte ayu!

The Frozen soundtrack was released in Japan this year on March 12th & the movie was #1 in Japan's box office for 16 straight weeks + it's supposedly going to beat the earnings that Titanic earned in Japan in due course

hidekirby 6th July 2014 04:51 PM

As Frozen has a worldwide tremendous success (while being waaaaaaay overrated), it's not a real surprise it exeeds ayu's Colours. But yeah it's not that fair...

1st Week

5th Day

Position: #6

Is that Frozen OST real good? Cuz I really don't understand its massive success worldwide. I still haven't watched the movie.

Neither the OST nor the movie is particularly good. The movie is just formatted to perform at the box office and to echoes with the majority. The OST sells because of the "broadway" approach of the songs. The score in itself is just ok. That's why a lot of people like it. But the movie in itself can't even compete with Tangled quality-wise.

Delirium-Zer0 6th July 2014 05:06 PM

When you see the movie you'll get it, lol. The melodies for some of those songs are legitimately REALLY good. The songs themselves will make you think of the things that happen in the movie, and it's such a good movie. It really is. I was shocked at how much I liked it when I saw it.

And ayu not doing rock-style songs because Japanese fans don't say they like them in polls is just a really, really misguided decision on her part, I think. :( "End of the World" was in that Tu-Ka CM and then "Duty" was her best selling original album, that couldn't have hurt too much. "evolution" and "SURREAL" are more synth-rock tracks but they're definitely rock, and they're legendary. Fans worldwide also really like rock style songs like "Memorial address," "Because of You" always went over well, and songs like "is this LOVE?" and "Microphone" have done great in concert and on TV lives, and Ayu likes those songs too.

I wish polls didn't enter into some of her decisions about that stuff so much... It's hard to look back later and think "Yeah, that was my favorite song" about a track without a nostalgic melody & feeling, you know? Polls are gonna be skewed in a sorta nostalgic direction because of it, which means more ballads and summer pop songs. But when fans actually hear these songs, they do like them.

I liked Frozen FAR better than Tangled, but that's probably because I liked its message more. Tangled was just a regular fairy tale, just slightly more geared towards boys. Frozen was geared towards girls, but didn't try to stuff any stupid, unrealistic, romantic notions down our throats for once. I thought it was funnier overall too, although Tangled did have some great moments.

As for merchandising, perhaps you should tell the Disney company that the movie would be good for that! Whenever I try to actually buy merchandise, Tangled merchandise is plentiful but I can't find a single thing for Frozen. The Disney store near me has TWO endcap-size t-shirt shelves, and that is ALL for Frozen stuff. Finding Frozen birthday supplies for my daughter was like trying to pull teeth.

Thanks, and by the way I'm gonna watch Tangled, it's been a long time since I don't watch one of those Disney animation.

I was here thinking if we can hope for a better performance of Colours for its 2nd Week. The only tough competition is Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's new album and Kisumai's 2nd Week.

I don't really want to start a debate because it's not the right thread ^^ but Frozen doesn't really deserve its success compared to other movies. It is not just my opinion, but the opinion of a lot of people in the animation field. It has too many flaws for such a studio. For the feminist aspect it is getting old IMO. Disney is having the same approach since Enchanted and has been using it all over again in all their fairytales since then (the last of them being the Maleficent movie). It's getting kinda old even if I like the message a lot. On this aspect Tangled was more subtle (well.. on every aspect it was more subtle :D).
To sum up I understand why everybody loves it because all the ingredients are here, the recipe is well known (the feminist aspect aside, it's the same since the Little Mermaid which has been released in 1989...), but it doesn't really make it a "good" movie.
As regards the merchandizing, I'm surprised because Frozen is everywhere and sells a lot. Maybe there is nothing left as everything is sold haha!

Let It Go and Olaf. That's why Frozen was so popular tbh. Don't even deny the power of Let It Go.

I also thought Tangled was better move & music-wise! I didn't like the Frozen songs (apart from the first one which had potential) as they were too "musically". Plus I thought Rapunzel was a much better character than Anna or Elsa.

Lol let's not get started on really breaking down Frozen, analyzing its messages, looking at its music, and comparing it to other Disney films. We can start a thread for that in the entertainment forum lol. I get so butthurt over how successful it is lol. Like smh.

Ayu must feel so irrelevant when her oricon thread on a forum about her gets filled with discussion of Frozen lol. Elsa's the new empress of j-pop

Polyrhythm 6th July 2014 08:04 PM

LOL wow the Frozen soundtrack is still charting.....wonder when it'll hit one million.

pimenta 6th July 2014 10:14 PM

I'm not surprised at all by Frozen OST, the way Let It Go keeps replaying everywhere here that OST is going to chart the whole year... Before coming to Japan I liked that song, now I can't stand it anymore because it was playing everywhere all the time. (and I also think it's overrated compared to other Disney songs and movies)

Minttulatte 6th July 2014 10:55 PM

Frozen is epic, that's all you need to know lol. :D

Haha I think it's a nice change from all the other japanese female artists that fill every ayu thread and I don't care about :P!
