I don't know any japanese artists that give every single song an english title and not sing a single english word in them. (sotsugyo doesn't count cause it's a cover song). I dont think it would kill her to try it out once in a while.

She's been giving all of her songs English/romaji titles for ten years now. Really, deal with it. It's such a trivial thing to complain about.

So where does the logic that English title = English content come from? Have you heard of a little thing called cultural integration? I think the world is globally connected enough that the English language can be used by the Japanese as they see fit. Same way that English constantly borrows from other languages.

Ayu is using English titles! But she's Japanese! How terrible. She should be indicted!

The notion of cultural purity should die together with the days of the Final Solution.

Going over this thread, when did the forum become so whiney?

^ Kind of an overreaction, but yeah... I love the fact that all her songs titles are in English. I dunno, it just seems like "the Ayu way". If she suddenly started naming them in Japanese it would be sooo strange and hard to accept.

Ayu-me 26th October 2009 11:23 PM

^ And it makes things a lot easier for non-Japanese speaking people like me, who would have a hard time understanding much less remembering the titles! When she has English titles I can at least get a feeling of the song, and it's much easier for people outside Japan to write it. (I don't know how to write Japanese letters on my computer, and I doubt I'd be able to remember all of them that well :P )
EDIT; We're getting quite off-topic, aren't we? ;) I just LOVE the fan-made covers btw! A little christmas feeling is never wrong, hell, I got into it before this single even (damned Josh Groban!). And I'm waiting for the real covers... Which are weeks away, but still. I'm impatient!

bluegie 26th October 2009 11:33 PM

and people gotta understand that Japanese artists love naming their songs in English. It's not only ayu doing that (although she must be one of the few who doesn't have Japanese title at all, except the cover song). Look at the songs from kuu, namie, hikki (well she speaks English, but it has nothing to do with it :P), Ken, B'z, and more. They all do use English words for their song titles.

Ayumiko 26th October 2009 11:41 PM

complaining about ayu's song names in English? I don't see what's wrong with having most or all song names in English..just because the lyrics contain little or no English. Well what about Japanese artists like L'arc en ciel...that's French and the band members aren't french nor their songs are in French.

it still really makes no sense,

Let's take an american artist. someone that doesn't speak a word of japanese, taylor switft! its like her album fearless, is it? having every single song title in japanese. It would make no sense, she doesn't speak a word of japanese and you turn to the back of the album and see every single song title is in kanji like sotsugyo shashin, and anata ga shite kureta koto (yes, koda kumi!)

I don't even think ayu knows what they mean. she didn't speak a word of english till just a few years ago and I bet if we went years and years back and had her read us the track list off one of her albums. she wouldn't be able to do it. it would be just as weird as if every single song off an album of hers had a title in french or swahili. Really pointless unless your incorporate that language into it.

namie has tooons of english song titled...songs. but they all have tons of english in the lyrics and yes, she has a french titled song with no french in it (moi et tu? is it?) but that is one. you don't see her naming every song she has in french.

ayu lived in New York for 2 years before her debut. She had to know at least "just some" words in English.
It doesn't mean she is fluent or anything but I'm sure it was enough period of time to understand the titles she is coming with. I'm sure she also learns new words when the time goes by.

Also YUI is another example of using just English/romaji titles, she has no title in Japanese.
Naming songs in English is just a trend in japan. For ayu's case at least she must know at least the meanings of the titles she chooses as she lived in New York 2 years before her debut and she visits the US/Hawaii almost every year.

zyoeru 27th October 2009 12:41 AM

If she lived in NY then obviously she's always had some fluency in English. She's not as unlinguistic as people seem to think. :P

Sure she has a thick accent, but she's at least at a conversational level in English. :P

But why should she stop using English titles, it's pretty much a norm in Japan.

:roflmao

I can switch on/off Johnny's mode if people (especially the non fans of Johnny's) don't listen to them

if not I might come across as some airhead on AHS xD

Ayumiko 27th October 2009 01:25 AM

Maybe she's been using Japanese/English dictionary to translate for the English song names...or just asked the ppl around her.

SpiceSquad! 27th October 2009 02:05 AM

the anticipation is high..

now.... is up to the COVERS..

hopes ayu team doesn't mess it up..

come on!! ayu!! fpr good sake to something that we like :))

Ayumiko 27th October 2009 02:50 AM

I have a feeling I won't be disappointed with the covers this time...maybe coz of the first press card thing...feels like they're confident about the photoshoot. Please don't prove me wrong ayu!

CoriKaru 27th October 2009 05:37 AM

Someone has caught Kumi Koda-itis.

I guess Ayumi isn't taking that break she so desperately needs.

You wonder if she even likes or wants to be doing what she's doing lately. Then again, she did write "THE SUN SONG" herself and that was lackluster so who knows.

And I wouldn't really jump all over her for the titles. I'm not sure if she's even writing these songs, but if not, odds are she's not titling them either.

Ballads never excite me, and when I come across a ballad with the title of "BALLAD", which I never have before (How original and creative yes? NO), it sends an emasculating shiver so deep down within my being to the extent where I know I'll never be warm again.

tokyoxjapanxfan 27th October 2009 06:45 AM

it's not hard to ask someone, especially at ayu's level, to translate "evolution" or something. and yeah, i bet she COULD read all of her song titles...thats the strangest thing i've ever heard.

and p.s. - what about american singers using spanish song titles? and moulin rouge? and a while ago, there was a song called ai no corrida, and it was sung and popularized by Quincy Jones, a very important person in the american music industry.
