Truthfully, I miss her old lyrics--they had a certain rawness and depth that her contemporary material lacks just a little bit, but I don't say that to mean that her recent lyrics weren't satisfactory. They're different than her earlier songs, not necessarily bad, and it makes sense since Ayu continues to change as a person as her career progresses. In all honesty, she always manages to say exactly what I need to hear at the time, and I'll always be grateful to her because of that. I've grown up on Ms. Hamasaki's music, and I'll always advocate her outlook on life and artistic vision.

Just felt like saying that. (笑)

Eh but the change is something I love in ayu, which made her my current favorite artist of all time now. Back then, there was more doubt and insecurity, but now it's way more confident and aggressive, even her singing style changes to it! Comparing the first trio (A song for XX, Loveppears, Duty) to the last trio albums (Secret, Guilty, Next Level), the songs become more confident and overt, instead of this doubt and timidness. <3 I love how Ayu mature as a lyricist. ^_^ Although she reuses and recycles, she's not using them in the same context.:love

It was prior to the release of NEXT LEVEL, Ayu posted that they are choosing between a number of compositions of which one was hers. I really doubt it's for a new song, but simply was for one of the songs that made it to NL.

It was when they were looking for the new single back in November/December. Around when Rule popped up. I think Sparkle beat out the CREA comp.

^Even so, i only thought of the compositions has referring solely to melody lines. I can't imagine how someone with limited musical knowledge can compose for violins, guitars, piano etc.

I think the melody lines overall has been decent. It's just that somehow, the songs which ayu composed for also seem to have better arrangements IMO.

ayumisrael 4th June 2009 11:32 AM

Well, I think that just from composing songs like M, no more words, Endless sorrow and evolution makes ayu one of the greatest composers. =D

So I'm assuming by the deadness of this thread, NEXT LEVEL is still out of the top 50...

ayumisrael 8th June 2009 10:44 PM

Yeah I suppose that tomorrow there will be the weekly ranking. =D

waterballoon 9th June 2009 02:24 AM

Just a question... where was GUILTY at this point of time? Was it out of the Top 50 as well? Cos suddenly, this chart life seems to be really short... or maybe Days/GREEN & A COMPLETE's chart lives were too long, haha.

jbrat2219 9th June 2009 04:29 AM

It did seem to drop so suddenly D:

It was doing so well at first... But it's only on it's like... 11th or 12th week, right? That's an extremely short time T_T;

ayumisrael 9th June 2009 10:27 AM

GUILTY chartd for 17 weeks.
On its 11th week it was already out of the top 100.
(It was #134).

Let's see the weekly charts for NEXT LEVEL's 11th week. =D in a few hours.

Lanz16 9th June 2009 11:06 AM

ALfromHELLSING 9th June 2009 11:20 AM

Yeah, composition = melody line, arrangement = putting all the instruments together. I think Ayu said this in one interview, that what she does is basically record her voice singing the melody she thinks would suit the song and someone else transcribes that for her, since she doesn't know how to do it.

And as for the arrangements being better, maybe Ayu pays more attention to the arrangements of the songs she composed. :P

I hope NL does well this week. Not long until the rankings for this week are updated on oricon. :D
