Why would you think that they are failing elsewhere?

I still think that the fact that many people bought the album on the venue will make the numbers quite lower than they actually are, usually there are no venue sales on the very first week, but time there was...

However, when it comes to actually buying the album? Aye, good luck. Remember them photos from years ago when she released good albums and you'd see a massive display in Tower Records with all the copies selling out? There is nothing like that for Colours. I was in various record shops after the album came out, but before I left Japan and I didnt see a single copy for sale. That's not because it was sold out: It's because there wasn't even a section for it.

The stores have the album for sale at Ayu's section.

This! People have to learn that we are not in 2006 anymore!

relmy 8th July 2014 12:40 AM

I can't believe people get so worked up over a shop display...

She's doing alright by female solo standards anyway. The only downside is she doesn't do promo anymore which makes albums feel like less of an event. :(

I saw the sequel this past weekend. Might have even been better than the first one :)

Kisumai topped the album charts this week with 246k copies sold, UVERworld was #2 with copies around 90k, Oda Kazumasa sold 75k copies with his new album and was #3 on Weekly Albums.

My thoughts for Colours are around 45-50k, hope I'm not all that wrong.

I'm NOT surprised it's not even in the top three with the boys taking them all - or maybe the top four. Most likely it will be #5, but I'd be surprised if she goes outside the top five...

brener 8th July 2014 04:17 AM

There aint no way for it to be out of top 5.

visionfactory 8th July 2014 06:23 AM

OMG

Soundscan (Another chart which count less copies than Oricon) says Colours sold 23,438 copies!!

Total might be more than 30k :D So relieved I thought it was going to sell almost 20k

Source: For"A"ver Club

#1 Kis-My-Ft2
#2 UVERworld
#3 Oda Kasumasa
#4 Tsuyoshi Nagabushi
#5 FROZEN OST
#6 ayumi hamasaki
#7 Christ Heart
#8 Itano Tomomi
#9 Namie Amuro
#10 DJ KAORI

Ayu should be #5 on Oricon :D

I went to Shibuya today and of course I had a quick look at Tower Records while I was there (love visiting Tower Records), so to shut up whoever says the album isn't on the stores or isn't being displayed here it is:

On the first floor (the floor with the new releases):

And also on the daily top 20 shelf:

And on her section on the j-pop floor:

Whoever says the album isn't for sale for sure didn't even try searching...

And of course I also saw the awesome huge billboard in front of the station, so cool, you can even see it from the train arriving and leaving the station :heart

NEXT LEVEL sold around 240k in its first week. Her first album to not break 100k in the first week was Party Queen. It almost did though. I remember people being worried about RnRC not selling over 200k though haha.

Didz-19 8th July 2014 09:55 AM

From For"A"ver Club FB, it's stated that ayu is on #5 with the sale of 39,295. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

pimenta 8th July 2014 10:11 AM

^ Yep, weekly results are out and Colours sold 39k! And people saying it wouldn't reach 20k...

And for people so worried about positions, it's all about who else releases on the same date. If Colours had been released last week with 39k it would have been #2, but this week it's #5, it's completely relative, A Classical got #1 with 25k last year...

OMG! :love I love this photo! Really.

AyuWorld 8th July 2014 10:40 AM

Love songs 272,653k
Party Queen 148,290k
LOVE again 88,825k
Colours 39,295k

Someone posted this, WOW to see the drop for each year !!

ayumisrael 8th July 2014 10:41 AM

But it's their totals lol Colours is just 1st week... so it might sell like 50,000.

Minttulatte 8th July 2014 11:19 AM

#5 is quite good for a singer being active for 16 years I think. Of course, it would have been awesome if she had beaten those boy groups ahead of her tho, but I'm fine with a top 5 position myself. :)

AyuWorld 8th July 2014 11:20 AM

aahh so its their total, lol! ok I got it now xD

KuuXAyu-fan 8th July 2014 12:00 PM

It seems that Tokyo Sports & Yahoo Japan misreported Tomomi had declared a 'war' against Ayu and she was frustrated because her album couldn't outsell Ayu. Tomomi explained through her latest tweet saying that she never said such thing and felt sad.

Aww poor Tomochin T_T
