I was out shopping and missed the performance.

jbrat2219 19th January 2009 01:39 AM

*feels slow* Wow, I never even thought of that :(

To be honest I've never seen any of these kind of events, I didn't know performances were involved.

ayu-america-27 21st January 2009 05:58 AM

"Ave Maria" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard!

"I Am... Sasha Fierce" is definitely my favorite album of B's... And I'm really feeling "Halo" and "Diva" - and the "Diva" music video? I love it!! those sunglasses (not the ridiculous tinsel ones, but the cool '90s-style ones she wears when she's with the dancers) are very cool! And those shoes are cool! Plus that very nice fan made of $100 bills! and the explosion? AWESOME. Although, while I like "Video Phone" i don't like how it's tacked on to the end.

And "Halo" is just a GORGEOUS song. Beyoncé is definitely my favorite singer (alongside Ayu)

"Ave Maria" is one of my favorites as well.

Did anyone see her sing America the Beautiful at the We Are One concert even two days before the inauguration? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeYPthhVz3s

She also performed "At Last" the the Neighborhood Ball while president Obama and First Lady Michelle had their first dance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGrq1SzkHs0

She did AMAZING singing At Last!!

jbrat2219 1st February 2009 01:22 AM

Thanks for sharing! She sang beautifully :D

CoriKaru 5th February 2009 06:11 PM

It seems the original singer of "At Last" is pissed off that Beyonce sang her song. She was recorded saying how she doesn't even like Beyonce and wants to punch her in the face (HA!) and how she shouldn't have been singing her song. She also said Obama wasn't her President. Whatever that means.

Even though one of her relatives, I think her son, said that she was praising Beyonce for singing the song the day of and was impressed and stuff. I think some kind of medical condition of hers acted up or something. Either way she doesn't seem to be in her right mind I don't think. Edda James is her name I think. I'm too lazy to look it up on Google, plus I don't really care. She's old.

ayu-america-27 5th February 2009 06:25 PM

^Her name is Etta James. It's the role Beyoncé played in "Cadillac Records." That's why she was singing "At Last." Plus, on the set of CR, James herself was there when Beyoncé performed it and told her she did good... That's at least what B said in an interview with MySpace or something like that

CoriKaru 5th February 2009 06:35 PM

No. I'm talking about at the Inaugural Ball for the President. Not in the movie. 2 different situations. She's not happy about the Inaugural Ball Performance of the song.

Why would it matter? If she has permission for the song, she can perform it anywhere she likes, right?

CoriKaru 5th February 2009 06:48 PM

Yeah, Beyonce did nothing wrong and isn't in any trouble. Edda is just bitter that her time is over and feels as if Beyonce is taking her song away from her or whatever and in such a public and historic setting. It's like the song she's known for and she feels that maybe Beyonce is trying to take her place or something.

She probably feels she should have been asked to sing it. But look at what happened with Aretha Franklin. ('-') NO THANKS!

Also, Aretha Franklin has a thing against Beyonce as well. A while ago Beyonce called Tina Turner the Queen of Soul or some title like that. Aretha said publicly how that pissed her off because she's the original Queen of Soul or whatever and had some choice words for Beyonce.

Old Singers who can't Sing anymore be serious BUSINESS! (@o@)

jbrat2219 5th February 2009 06:56 PM

Why does everyone hate her so much! O_O;;; It's so strange to me xD;

If Beyonce feels someone is the queen of soul, that's her opinion! I think Ayu is the Queen of Pop, so does a lot of people, you don't see Namie or Utada or someone going after them with scissors or something hahaha

Probably because their fans do it for them.

*Pulls out scissors*

futureLOVE 5th February 2009 09:19 PM

Unfortunately, Beyonce's been the subject of a lot of publicity not only surrounding other stars but many critics of her's refer to her as being fake and very much a diva(haha and not in a good way either)

but no matter what anyone ever says about her, beyonce will always be known as an amazing singer that releases great music.

ayu-america-27 6th February 2009 12:27 AM

Definitely...

And the article that I read (probably the same one CoriKaru read) made it seem like Etta was pissed cuz she wasn't asked to sing for the ball...

It's unfortunate because Beyoncé is one of the most relevent pop culture icons alive...

And B called Tina Turner the Queen of Soul at a performance that they made together... Aretha was kinda catty for going around being mad about her complimenting someone she's on-stage with...

These old singers are legends, yes, but are sounding a bit like the characters on "Mean Girls."

Sorry, but B is my favorite singer and I'll defend her with my own pair of scissors. :D

Here is the story of Etta James mouthing off about Beyonce, which includes an update featuring a reply from Etta about all the attention her comments received.

As far as I'm concerned, Etta James needs to hush it up. It's NOT even her song. She didn't write it and she wasn't the first to sing it, and she won't be the last. Etta was the third singer to sing the song; Etta covered the song, just like Beyonce. The song has been covered several times. I understand her view, but lashing out like that made her look like a crabby old bag.

LMFAO! So true! :no

CoriKaru 7th February 2009 05:05 AM

No, she didn't write the song but I don't think that's the point. Although I don't agree with how she reacted, I completely see where she's coming from because that is THE SONG she's known for. It's like her calling card per se. She has every right to feel how she feels, such as being replaced and forgotten and all of that. It's natural and it happens. She may have possibly did something similar when she was in her prime.

When someone comes along and starts singing "Bootylicious" and "Crazy In Love" when Beyonce is 80 years old, I expect her to accept it though because I don't want to see her at that point up against a wall shaking it while singing "Uh Oh Uh Oh Uh Oh Uh Oh Oh no no", because that will indeed be a "Uh Oh, Oh No No!".

jbrat2219 7th February 2009 05:16 AM

If she didn't write the song, she needs to get over it. I can't quite tell if she was joking or not though.

Kaiouforever 8th February 2009 03:50 AM

Poor poor Etta James. I mean, after all, it's HER song right? The little heroin addict wants her song back B, looks like trouble. =[

B did a great job with the song. Of course it'll never be "just like Etta's version" but so what. It was still nice.

CoriKaru 8th February 2009 12:02 PM

Speaking of Aretha Franklin and old singers who can't sing anymore, it seems she agrees with me.

She's so disappointed in her Inaugural Performance (She blames it on the cold, I blame it on the old) that she released a SINGLE (WTH?) of the song (Come Again?) I think this past week (Really?).

It is not that serious and who wants a Single of "My Country Tis of Thee"?????
