Perfume Documentary:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPwMgWzZ3wo
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do81_QzgBRw

I cried at the part where A-chan cried. :(

There isn't an English translation of this, but I'm able to read chinese, so the subtitles help. In general, this chronicles their hardship of 8 years from their time in Hiroshima Actors' School, moving onto Tokyo, meeting with dismal sales of their singles, and how they eventually managed to succeed.

I think you'll be able to tell from the video solely what's actually happening. Understanding the translation would help too, if you could read Japanese or Chinese.

To break it down
1st part: How Perfume was formed in Hiroshima Actors' School
2nd part: How Perfume debuted as a local group, riding on the wave of Morning Musume like idols
3rd part: How their singles were continually met with dismal sales, how promotion was extremely difficult at the start, how they wanted to give up
4th part: Decision for major debut with the 3 futuristic singles (Linear Motor Girl, Computer City and Electro World)
5th part: How they had the music but no major distributor and no promo (which explains why they had to go all around the place to give mini concerts and do promo activities)
6th part: Although Nocchi got a bad luck charm for the new year when she went to the temple to pray, Perfume stated they will still move on together and work even harder.
7th part: As their recording company began to drop other artistes, Perfume got even more exposure with Kimula Kaela having spotted their Chocolate Disco PV and promoting them on her radio show.
8th part: They became more popular and got picked up by NHK for their recycling campaign, exposing Perfume to the mainstream public.
9th part: Perfume finding mainstream success, with A-chan crying at their concert and saying "I never thought we'll be able to perform in front of that many fans".
10th part: Kashiyuka expresses that she truly really likes Perfume as a group (as she says it tears well up in her eyes) and it goes back to the Zepp Tokyo concert when A-chan says; "It's ok, we've been doing this for 8 years already".

Very moving documentary. It's truly like the struggle of Perfume, to get to where they are. Strongly recommend it!

According to the people at JPM, Perfume is joining up with Pino for a new campaign with a new song titled 'NIGHT FLIGHT.'

Here's a clip of the new song and PV:

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 29th April 2009 01:48 AM

I like the preview for NIGHT FLIGHT.

Can't wait to hear the full song, and watch the PV when it comes out. :)

Fitst 29th April 2009 05:59 AM

I wonder if the album isnt too far away then?

taskinillusion 29th April 2009 06:00 AM

^ I've been wondering about that too. I really hope they release one this summer. :yes

CoriKaru 29th April 2009 08:35 AM

Finally a Perfume song that allows me to be anticipatory. And with how "Secret Secret" turned out, I'm hoping for good things. I see they're keeping with the Red and White theme and the "Chocolate Covered Icecream Bringing Mannequins" to life concept as well.

jiarongisme 29th April 2009 08:45 AM

NIGHT FLIGHT sounds promising!

Sundae 29th April 2009 10:57 AM

it was so touching! their jouney to this road was so hard, but finally, they deserve what they got now!

SelfishHands 29th April 2009 04:04 PM

OMG i actually like NIGHT FLIGHT

TofuBunny 29th April 2009 05:54 PM

woot, I have a good feeling about NIGHT FLIGHT !
the cm is awesome ! I really wanna try eating Pino T_T

CoriKaru 29th April 2009 08:42 PM

I know the full video has already been posted in here. Thanks Sundae, but here it is again for easy access. The video on the website that Sundae gave just wouldn't load for me.

After hearing more of it in the full commercial I'm even more excited than before. The only thing that can mess this song up is the verse parts of the song which tend to mess up Perfume's songs for me because they don't usually do anything imaginative with the verses. Just straight forward talk. Anyway, it's been a while since I've been excited like this. So I'm guessing this is going to be like "Secret Secret" and not be released as a Single and be the main reason I buy the Album. It would have been nice if they had kept with the mature mysterious tone and look from "Secret Secret" but it appears they went back to cutesy. This song could have went either way. Oh well.

i really like the sound of "NIGHT FLIGHT"! :D
i hope there's an album coming our way~

CoriKaru 30th April 2009 06:49 AM

Here's the preview of the song without any Commercial Talk. You get to hear a bit more of the end too.

It's a little more clearer as well. At least the words are a bit more discernible.

jiarongisme 30th April 2009 07:44 AM

Now I'm very very excited for NIGHT FLIGHT!

minkAYuko 30th April 2009 08:06 AM

I never have good feeling about previews! :D I shall wait! :D
