Days was much more popular compared to MW for sure (the digital charts said it all). Also, there wasn't any strong/surprise competitor at all for Days. Let's say if SCS released their debut single with Days, I'm sure avex would do something to boost up the sales as well.

Since 2004, I have already accepted the fact that ayu is not one of those most popular artists anymore. I feel like the no. 1 single streak is the only valuable thing left to maintain her current diva statue. However, sometimes I kinda think it's good to break it so she can be free from this silly thing...

Perhaps they would do something but it wouldn't be as high as MW. Maybe the additional day would be enough without the sudden promotion and gifting or vice versa.

ayu is still very popular, of course not one of the most popular though it always changing. ayu is still the 1st-2nd-3rd best seller each year. The only female artist that could do it -at the moment- with the less releases is namie.
So to put it in solo females category ayu is still one of the most popular female artists/divas in japan. It's not only the #1 singles streak that keeps her that, but the amazing ability to still sell really good after so many years and be one of the top 3 best sellers each year.
ayu is more popular than a lot of other female artists who peaked popularity recently or just a few years ago or that ever peaked a high popularity, I think that says that she has the it effect. ayu's popularity is underestimated (and again of course she is not of the most populars etc. but she is still very popular). But the #1 singles streak is certainly not the only thing that keeps her being a great diva. She isn't a 5 years old singer with a huge singles streak.

hope to see the sales go up..

marekcarey 27th February 2009 11:51 AM

tomorow its the weekend so most probably sales will be the same or higher ^^

maikaru 27th February 2009 11:53 AM

well it doesnt help to know that the album will come out in less than a month~

Tony G 27th February 2009 12:05 PM

Sales are dying faster than I expected... =/
But with no promotion, still very good.

Remember that the weekend (Saturday) stats are positions and sales that we get on Sunday from oricon. =D

Meat Pao 27th February 2009 12:09 PM

Erm... I don't see the point in discussing how Arashi will not give Ayu a chance for #1 next week. It's not like Ayu singles nowadays get #1 in the second week :shrug

KarenPang 27th February 2009 12:34 PM

I think it's safe to say that Rule / Sparkle will nail #1 now . Everyone's sales have dropped quite badly in the 3rd day &

On another note, leave ayu, is there anyone who can beat arashi's first week? or kinki kids? (NEWS I'm not so sure if they are a consistent pole but maybe they are). Therefore I think it's futile to talk who can win them since almost no one (if anyone) can at this point. I think those JE's can only beat themselves =P.

NEWS is still able to sell & clear about 200K+ in terms of singles but if you compare against ARASHI & KAT-TUN , they're the weakest outta the 3 bands & so far I haven't seen any NEWS's single/s clearing about 300K+ in the 1st week

& yes you're right , a fellow Johnny's able to beat another Johnny's band . ARASHI & KAT-TUN are releasing singles back to back in the next 2 weeks to come

ARASHI's 1st next Wed with Believe / Kumori Nochi , Kaisei & their kouhai's KT's up the next week with RESCUE (in which both singles rock & I'm so getting them in due time :lmfao)

waterballoon 27th February 2009 12:42 PM

Hahaha Johnny's are really terrifying, aren't they?

Hmm the sales have fallen by about half again... I think that's really the pattern these days, so it's okay. I'm glad to see it at #1, so now I'm pretty sure this single WILL get #1 weekly, and the streak will still be kept. ;)

After 10 years, ayu is still very popular. Sure, she doesn't sell as much as she used to. But she's still one of the most popular female solo artists around in Japan (and asia) these days.

Glad to see her getting another #1. It's not set in stone just yet, but I'm she'll get it =)

haha

it's probably terrifying/scary to people who doesn't support Johnny's bands but for people like myself who do , their no.s doesn't surprise me at all

but having said that it's quite 100% certain Rule / Sparkle will debuted at #1 overall now

:yes , she has been around for almost close to 11 years+ & for her to still able to sell decently it's good

tomorrow's chart is showing frida's chart which is the lowest sales day in that week. so i'm pretty sure tomorrow's index less than 5K

Yeah Im so surprised about how pessimistic people here are about her.. ahaha
Most people still love her, and her old songs, and songs like Days.
But her new rock songs are only appealing to the people who like Rock~

Also what this cannot tell you is how many online purchases there are for Rule and Sparkle.
I think much more people are doing that.

And without TV promotion.. it's a great sales figure.

What about Rule's PV? And what about radio play (I don't know if it was played on radio's over there :P but I'm sure the PV was on TV)?

SolarAngel 27th February 2009 05:31 PM

When does the movie release in Japan? I seriously hope it will boost her flagging sales. And to think Dragonball is one of the most loved animes in Japan too.

13th March, I guess.

But, I don't know if japanese loves that american version of one of their beloved anime/manga lol
Anyway I'm really impressed by the sales O_O I was expected a flop, without promotion or lives.

Congrats to Ayu ~

lfe. 27th February 2009 06:22 PM

Daily sales have been kinda funny only if you notice the trend. Tomorrows will likely be 5000. Half-life lol

rakeru 27th February 2009 09:27 PM

eeek! sales can't keep halving like this! the weekend is going to be the only solution. hope it works!

It depends what chart you are looking at really. If its the yearly single chart, she only made it to 34ish last year - I remember a time when it was unthinkable that Ayu wouldn't have a single in the yearly top 10, let alone top 40. Yearly digital charts aren't that strong for her either. The only chart that she is 1-3rd in is the overall Avex only charts - not a bad thing of course but not surprising considering she had something like 7 releases counting last year. She is still of course popular and already has her legendary status, but its also true that she has been losing popularity as well.

I think people mention the #1 streak as a measure of her status because of the fact that she is certainly not the only woman who has had a long number 1 streak to maintain. There are several famous jpop women throughout the history of Japanese music that had #1 streaks to uphold and historically those singers always started fading from the limelight the moment they lost their streaks.
