It seems that Tokyo Sports & Yahoo Japan misreported Tomomi had declared a 'war' against Ayu and she was frustrated because her album couldn't outsell Ayu. Tomomi explained through her latest tweet saying that she never said such thing and felt sad.

Aww poor Tomochin T_T

LOL at the "declared a 'war'"

rikku1994 8th July 2014 03:18 PM

Declared war against Ayu? Lol Ayu so much money she can actually buy her soul loljk... But I kinda feel that Tomochin was shocked with that report, she was like "What!?!?"

And those sales! Better than I expected!

relmy 8th July 2014 03:19 PM

Is she the one who has said what a big fan she is of Ayu before?

marty 8th July 2014 03:33 PM

Well, 39k is not good, but I guess considering the general picture, it's not disastrous.
Koda Kumi last album debuted with 46k, and I was crestfallen, so I think it'd be hypocrite of me to act like I think those sales are alright. They're not too bad tough.
We'll see how the next weeks do.
But I'm happy the album seems to go nicely digitally. I'm curious to know how much it's selling in internet.

brener 8th July 2014 03:53 PM

Bon Voyage sales had its international copies counted on Oricon, Colours didn't because of the new policy. So maybe Koda wouldn't be able to sell those 46k copies. Ayu must have sold around 5-10k copies around Asia, Americas and Europe.

And yeah, Colours is doing great on digital charts, although I wonder if it wasn't released 2 weeks in advance physical sales could've shown a better performance on Oricon.

Oops, I forgot that! Now it makes more sense, it means Ayu is doing normally! (I tend to compare her a lot with Kumi, 'cause I think they're in a similar situation)

Andrenekoi 8th July 2014 04:00 PM

For a 35 years old divorced grandma married twice to gaijins active in the industry for over 16 years and 12 years past her peak, she is doing pretty well... ^^

Considering that Koda Kumi has a consistent fandom in countries like Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong (Korea?), I think those 6k copies were a reflection of that.

Both Kumi and ayu (which I think has more fans outside Asia) are on similar levels of sales.

KuuXAyu-fan 8th July 2014 04:08 PM

That's not true. Oricon stopped counting overseas shipments a while ago. We just found out about it now so all of BV sales were from Japan only.

Yep, that's why I make a lot of comparisons between the two of them! ^^

Was this while ago even before Bon Voyage release? and what is your source?

Last year there was an uproar of Arashi being number 1 yearly while Exile and AKB sold more so that is said to have been a factor in Oricon discounting overseas sales since last year. CDJapan only recently found out that they were no longer using their overseas shipments after they asked about it.

Here is an email from CDJapan before they made it official that overseas sales no longer count- https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bp5qLu-IMAA84bJ.jpg

Also even if overseas sales were counted Kuu doesn't have a fanbase that large as she hadn't even debuted when J-Pop was at its peak in the 90s in other countries of Asia ala Amuro and Ayu. Also I'm pretty sure most of the Taiwan/Asian fans buy the Taiwan press/local press version of an album (instead of the Japanese version due to cost) which doesn't count on Oricon anyway.

Either way 6k isn't a huge difference but I just wanted to clarify this.

brener 8th July 2014 04:38 PM

Oh I see, so you might be right, those 46k for Kuu were all sold in Japan. My bad, I'm sorry. ^^

No no it's okay. :P This whole thing has been a bit confusing.
I hope the album can remain remain somewhat stable as there are no more tour dates left.

brener 8th July 2014 04:47 PM

Me too, I hope it will be able to chart over 11 weeks just like CDL is doing on DVD charts. I rather have longevity on charts than high peak numbers, although this is kinda rare for Japanese artists, we see long chart runnings for a lot of foreign artists but it's unusual for Japanese ones =\ well, good luck to Colours =)

Top Jpop female artist in Korea:
#1 Namie
#2 Ayu

In fact Koda has never made it to the Top 20 chart in Korea

Top Jpop female artist in Taiwan:
#1 Namie
#2 Ayu

In Taiwan Koda was popular just during first BEST-Black Cherry era

Not surprised. Ends up barely getting the top five, with four male artists ahead of Ayu; Kis-My-Ft2, as we know, took #1 because, well you guessed it, "Johnny's (almost) always get #1." It seems I do agree about her longevity in the J-pop market, the lack of interest today, and the "diminishing results" after peak... Times have surely changed...

But two guys are actually older than Ayu! Why is that, really? And this:

What a FAILURE. So apparently a couple of tabloid newspapers "speculated" that Tomochin declared a war against Ayu, but denied those rumors? Well, I kind of agree about Tomochin being said - she never said such thing? She said that it was a coincidence that Tomochin released an album on the same day as Ayu? Hmm...
