Currently, annual physical music sales in Japan total about 310 billion yen, down by roughly half from 1998 when CD sales peaked. On the positive side, there has been enormous growth since 2005 in the volume of music sold over networks, chiefly to cell phone subscribers. This market segment had sales of 91 billion yen in 2009. Now we see why they so love releasing the ringtones before albums/singles to create most of the promotion/revunue.
Maybe... they will have one winner win free tickets or something!? That would really promote the next tour and really shoot up sales. Last time it was the autographs (which... who's heard of more than like the first two?).
