Amuro's Concert Cancelled, Promotion Company (Midas Promotions) Not In The Know
Amuro Namie was set to perform on the 26th of this month here in Singapore. This is the first time in 20 years that she's been here to perform, with fans getting really excited. But two nights ago, Amuro's website announced that the concert has been cancelled, and stated that it was "due to issues concerning the local promoter".
What's confusing was that Midas Promotions later stated on their Facebook page: "Midas Promotions have not cancelled the Namie Amuro concert. The decision to cancel was made and posted by Namie Amuro's management. We have not been informed of their decision and hope it can resolved and the concert can take place"
A few moments after Midas Promotions have made the announcement, Amuro's website has also updated that the cancellation was "due to local technical reasons."
It's very rare for the artist management company to cancel a concert without prior notice in Singapore.
Our reporter interviewed Midas' representative, Steven, and he said "Midas Promotions has yet to cancel Amuro Namie's concert. We were not contacted by the artist management company in the first place. We are also as confused as the fans."
"We tried to call the management company at Japan countless of times but we just can't seem to get a reply from them." Steven has also hinted that there really is a possibility that the concert will be cancelled, "If I'm not mistaken, once the Japanese have made a decision, it would be difficult to get them to change their minds."
But Steven said that they would try to get to the Japanese management as soon as possible, and hopes that the concert will eventually take place as planned, and also give the fans a proper explanation.
Yesterday, Sistic (ticket sales company) stopped the ticket sales of Amuro's concert tickets for a while, but resumed sales today. Steven explained "Maybe Sistic thought that the concert was fully cancelled yesterday, therefore stopping the sales of the tickets for the concert. However, from our point of view, the concert is still going to happen, therefore ticket sales has been resumed."
Fans Complaining And Ranting To Company. Company At Loss.
Midas Promotions' Facebook page had over a hundred fans leaving messages of their displeasure. Some have stated that Midas Promotions wasn't being responsible with the event, where they don't even know that the concert was being cancelled by the Japanese management. Steven stated "We're in a difficult position now."
Many fans feel that the reason for the Japanese management to single-handedly cancel the concert was due to its ticket sales, and mentioned that the company has not done enough work to advertise and promote the concert.
Some fans were so enraged and even said "Amuro has never cancelled an event because of ticket sales, (event promo company) such a disgrace!"
Steven did not reveal the statistics of the ticket sales, but he emphasized: "Midas has never cancelled a concert because of poor ticket sales. We have cancelled concerts before, but that's is if the artist is unwell, or the country has met with a natural disasters, and other emergencies making the artist to be unable to travel." Steven also mentioned that Midas has promoted the event on the papers, magazines, and TV. They've also had promo posters. So to say that "there the company has not done enough work to advertise and promote the concert" is unfair.
Singapore is Amuro's last stop for her 20th anniversary commemorative Asian tour, which was intended to be a happy and perfect ending for the 20th anniversary celebrations. But now, what's left is a hanging question-mark, and we would only know once we get more information from the event company.
