It's kind of weird to have a recut single the same title as the album it came off of... or is that normal in the States?

It happened with HEART STATION, as well as LOVEppears (sort of). It happens from time to time I think.

jbrat, it's normal in the states. usually an artist here only releases one single before the album and the rest of the singles are taken from it afterward.

^ I hope this is not off topic, because I'm really curious. Do people actually BUY these singles? I mean if I had the album... I wouldn't buy a recut, that's kind of stupid xD;;;

When people say "New hit #1 single," do they mean number one requested? Or do people actually buy them?

I honestly never seen an American single in my life (when I go to the store)! It's all albums!!!

^ the singles don't tend to get physically released on CDs here anymore. they're released to iTunes or wherever, and mainly rely on radio/video play to help them chart.

the Billboard Hot 100 used to be based on sales only, then it was airplay-only and now it's a combination of the two.

I read a while ago that the US was going to try and reintroduce CD singles that would come with free ringtones, but I've not seen any yet.
