almost every time i say "oh yeah, my favorite artist has a new single coming out!", people are generally like "wtf is a single?"

they just say 'new song', not 'new single'. at least over here (tri-state area) that tends to be like case about 95% of the time.

Bull.
I live in the tri-state area an EVERYONE knows what a single is.

And people WILL see this cover if they put the single on Itunes.
Thats how it works.

I really hope this can be succesful for her!. But, with the effort they put into the font on the single I'm not sure they are trying that hard with Utada!. Good luck anyway!.

really because nobody near me does, and it seems relatively unanimous that mos Americans typically don't know what a single actually is. As I said previously, most people say 'song' and i always get funny looks when i say 'single'.

singles jsu don't really exist anymore in America, but they're making a comeback with the whole e-single thing, if you know what i mean.

Seriously I agree. Doesn't matter if I say 'song' or 'single', people know what I'm talkig about. Just because singles aren't released physical anymore doesn't mean the generation after has no clue to what one is. That' how people refer to Rihanna as, a singles artist.

jbrat2219 18th January 2009 07:21 AM

What is e-single?

I think it's a single that is released digitally (online).

amorphose 18th January 2009 07:32 AM

Okay, so assuming that the general American public DOES know what you're talking about when you say 'single' and trust me, around here, that's NOT the case: Name one place where the average American is actually going to see the cover if they're not a.) Hunting for it online, or b.) Going to buy the song from an online vendor like iTunes or Amazon?

Like I said multiple times before, if someone heard the song and liked it enough to go to iTunes with the intent to purchase it, an ugly cover isn't going to make them change their mind. And if it does, that person was never really interested in the music in the first place.

I wish people would just stop *****ing until the ALBUM artwork is revealed. That's the real important cover; the one people will actually see in more than one, isolated location, not this backseat single cover.

jbrat2219 18th January 2009 07:40 AM

I certainly hope the album cover is better... The album comes out in March, so we should get a cover mid February, right?

Mmm... I'm not sure exactly when I found out about EXODUS, but I'm pretty sure it was about a month or two before it was released and the cover had already been revealed at that point and all the tracks had previews you could stream at utada.com.

This time around though... I'm not so sure it will be the same because Utada said in her blog that she's not even entirely finished with the album yet. I think with EXODUS the album had been finished for a long while before they released it.

This album's release schedule is shaping up to be more like her Japanese work. Lots of tedious deadlines, it seems. I bet we won't get the cover until the very end of February, a week or two before the album comes out in Japan (assuming it's not pushed back.) I wouldn't even know what to think then.

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 18th January 2009 07:54 AM

Hopefully the album cover will be 10x better than the little effort made for the single cover. Also, the rest of the tracks won't have CBTM generic sound going on.

jbrat2219 18th January 2009 07:57 AM

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more this is single is just a stepping stone to something bigger and better...

[kokoro♥] 18th January 2009 09:32 AM

The single photography is really good.
its clear and crisp and professional.

BUT, whoever photoshopped the text on there failed.
it kind of looks like she did it herself in paint just to have something up D:

That isn't the cover anyways is it ._. Isnt the Vector one the one they are using?

Exactly. I'm so glad you made that point. Perfect. And some fail to realize that the point that SOME of us are making is that people will SEE the cover. That is all. ('-')

The thing that irks me about the cover is how Randomly they just put "UTADA" down at the left/right just because it was empty space. There's no symmetry or anything. They could have placed it with their eyes closed and been just as effective.

Keiichi_JPU 18th January 2009 11:01 AM

What if the album will turn out to be titled "Come Back To Me" and this will be the cover :laugh

But seriously, I always look at it like this:

There are always things you do not like about certain releases, but even those flaws make a release as it is! I didn't like her sexy lyrics in Exodus, but I though "without those lyrics, Exodus wouldn't be Exodus, so I'm happy she used them anyway!"

Please don't be so negative :) (of course not everyone in this thread is negative, there are also some positive peeps!)

Rogue 18th January 2009 11:08 AM

Funny nobody is mentioning her birthday tomorrow XD
The girl is going to get bigger again :D

Congratulations on beforehand, Utada!

CoriKaru 18th January 2009 11:18 AM

Well her birthday is kind of 2 days away for me being that I haven't even been to bed yet for tomorrow to begin.

Utada's Birthday>Martin Luther King Day>Inauguration Day

Rogue, is that girl in your Avatar intentionally wearing an outfit that looks like the one in Utada's "Passion" Music Video? Looks like it. That hair (could be a wig), and that pose. Yup.

NintendoHTF1242 18th January 2009 01:46 PM

It's awesome having a birthday the day before Utada's xD I was really surprised when I found out her birthday was a day after mine.

My sisters birthday is the release date of Movin' on without you :B

Meat Pao 18th January 2009 02:05 PM

^ It's awesome sharing the same birthday with Hikki :3 :laugh

NintendoHTF1242 18th January 2009 02:06 PM

^ Damn you XD

kawaii otaku 18th January 2009 02:15 PM

my dad, aunt, 6th grade English teacher, and my ex best friend (who loved hikki) all have the same birthday as her. :)
