[TRANS] 100118 DBSK Awarded as "Cultural Ambassador"

Both five-member groups Dong Bang Shin Ki and Big Bang received the exceptional recognition of being “Cultural Ambassadors.”

The private organization from the Cultural Tourism Board, the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange (KOFICE) stated, “Due to the contributions they have made in the development of the cultural aspect through popular music, we have decided to appoint/award them as ‘Cultural Ambassadors’ as a form of recognition.”

They have produced the most number of successful album records even in such a difficult period of time in the music industry, and have been energetically involved in both local and overseas activities; these are the main reasons behind this award.

A representative from KOFICE said, “This honor was awarded based on those who have contributed to the cultural industry on a yearly basis. Every year, this award has been given to those working in the cultural field, but this year is an exception as it has been given to idol groups.”

They added, “As both Dong Bang Shin Ki and Big Bang are busy with their schedules, the official announcement will be made later in January.”

i'm so happy for them! and for big bang too
both are awesome groups and succesfull in korea and japan <33

LizBrazil 18th January 2010 06:33 PM

I have nothing against Big Bang (my friends would kill me if I would), but compared to Tohoshinki they really got their succes in Japan very easily. It took Tohoshinki 3 years to master Japanese quite well and to get the attent, succes they deserve. I was so shocked when I saw Big Bang at Kouhaku with a translator next to them. I'm quite proud of Tohoshinki that they worked hard to master Japanese :yes They worked hard to get from the Heart, Mind & Soul Tour stage (so small that they couldn't dance Rising Sun properly) to the Tokyo Dome stage :yes I'm sure they'll work hard too to continue on together as five :yes

miroro 18th January 2010 07:03 PM

^that's true :laugh but well, imo tohoshinki made the path for korean artists in japan :) :yes so now it's like more easy?

Maemi 18th January 2010 09:10 PM

The cover is very simple, but I like it!

I really don't like DBSKnights website. It always makes my computer slow down or freeze for a while until it starts up again. And it's not because I have an old computer because my comp can handle usually whatever I come across on the internet. But they just have SO MUCH STUFF on their website it's like bleh.

Yeah, I agree... if THSK didn't come before Big Bang then Big Bang would probably have more trouble becoming successful in Japan.

LizBrazil 18th January 2010 11:06 PM

I don't mind though :) I would like to see more Korean singers in Japan :) And THSK doesn't mind either, since they always cheer for Big Bang both in Japan and Korea :yes It was just weird to see a translator in a program like Kouhaku. I'm sure Big Bang will master Japanese too in some time :)

girl* 18th January 2010 11:53 PM

^ Big Bang didn't attend Kouhaku. You might be thinking about FNS or the Japan Record Award.

Tohoshinki had it very hard in Japan, but success is more satisfying when you've worked your ass off for it like they did. Quite frankly, I'm amazed that they've gone this far in Japan, many people didn't think they could do it.

LizBrazil 19th January 2010 12:09 AM

You're right *hides away* Blame it on studying :laugh It was in an important Japanese show :innocent
Anyway, I'm glad THSK worked hard for their fans and I hope Break Out! and their best album will sell well :yes They deserve it :yes

AyUmIXx 19th January 2010 02:19 AM

i've got to believe that all other Korean artists who would want to expand themselves at Japan gotta thanks to Tohoshinki.. since Tohoshinki is the very first boyband which has made a great breakthrough to be accepted by Japanese ppl (i know that some BB fans will not really like it, but they got to accept that it's the fact~)..
of course both are great... i'm sure Tohoshinki is so glad that their fellow Korean boybands can make a success in Japan :)

Honestly, I'd rather the Koreans stayed in Korea, only because I find k-pop nowadays is SO much more interesting than j-pop. I don't want them making boring j-pop music when they could be in Korea making more interesting stuff! Though I don't really like Big Bang so this doesn't apply to them I guess. XD

waterballoon 19th January 2010 04:50 AM

Tohoshinki has really set a trend eh. I'm really proud of them! But it's sad they're stuck in a rut now... BREAK OUT! of this drama boys!

AyUmIXx 19th January 2010 08:19 AM

true :yes :laugh
that's what i think too, i'm so tired of jpop (except of ayu, kuu and tohoshinki)

girl* 19th January 2010 09:46 AM

I'm actually sick of K-pop nowadays. The excessive autotune usage turns me off.

miroro 19th January 2010 09:51 AM

even with autotune, i can't stop loving most of korean boybands :laugh but of course, dbsk is the best korean boyband .. even i we do't know if they'll make a comeback in korea :(
