thanks for the information. it sold quite well, comparable to (m)U, at least!

mishidabo 5th December 2006 05:25 AM

XD.. damn ayu.. i thought this was going to do better

oh well ... good luck next time ^^

iphis 5th December 2006 05:37 AM

i dont think it's ok we just blame the digital downlaoding or overseas purchasing or other things for the low sales....

look at the single sales this week...kinki kids' single sold more than 230k...
dont fans download their singles??dont overseas fans buy their singles???

we must admit that ayu is not as popular as before
and saying"386k is not that bad" is really sad

we just pray ayu wont give up because of the sales
i hope she really loves music and keeps trying to sing more good songs
then our supporting for her is worthy it

s1012h 5th December 2006 05:53 AM

^Secret is doing just fine
she's a solo artist
Kinki Kids are not
and I think Secret will stay consistent
and if not, it doesn't matter because it's one of Ayu's best albums

Axel_Grease 5th December 2006 06:03 AM

Mmm, I completely forgot about sales~ xD So these numbers are ok. :D

That's good to hear.

I estimate that the 1st week sales will account for around 50-55% of the total sales. That would make the estimated total sales for "Secret" around 702k to 772k.

Slowly achieving that 800K dream. xD

ROFL~

Maybe she'll have better second week sales. That week, Japan was probably too hyped because the Wii was gonna be released on Dec. 2nd and they all completely forgot about petite little Ayu. xD

norain 5th December 2006 06:11 AM

Maybe since (miss)understood was over a two week period, we could possibly get another 300k for the 2nd week, and then afterwards 150k, 70k, 30k, 10k, 1k...Lets see this estimate comes out to...about 900k.

That's thinking too much...okay, instead, let me hope that miss understood sales rise again and then they count it so it can beat utada, because utada has beaten ayumi every album release. She's been one up on her on every case, and even in Ultra Blue case, she's up by a small margin too.

386k Sales? Iono, but Utada has very high Digital Downloads sales, and if the popularity is still there for Utada, then there's some in Ayumi equaling a lot of digital downloads...

do we have any digital download charts?

We're not blaming the digital downloads. We're saying that part of the sales are already sealed there, and you have to understand the entire general decline of consumer needs for a TANGIBLE CD. And overseas purchases REALLY don't count towards the overall CD sales. We hope they would, but I guess it's too difficult to track.

Kinki Kids have their single "Harmony of December" sold more, well, it goes back to my entire notion that the Jpop scene favours boy groups more. It's the fan girl consumer base that's really really supporting them, and it's easily the largest consumer fan base you've got.

I think everyone does admit that Ayu isn't as popular as before, but I'm very sure she has earned her status as the undisputed Queen of J-pop. She was there right when the entire Jpop scene peaked and since then, no one has been close to where she is now. I know you might be disappointed with the 1st week sales of "386 k", but I think you just have to accept it seriously as part of the change and trend in consumer trends.

There's really no point brooding over your supposed perception of 'extremely disappointing sales'.

But it really isn't that bad. Sure it could be better, but not bad at all. Most artists would kill to sell that much. You need to compare sales based on the current market, not what she has sold in the past.

JaysenRyan 5th December 2006 06:31 AM

I don't think those are low sales, maybe by Ayu standards, but that's a really great number. Most pop artists in the US would kill for first week sales like that. I mean, look at poor Jessica Simpson's new CD. It totally tanked. If Ayu's sales are consistent, or at least lasting, then the CD is a success.

I think you have to really examine clearly what is happening here.

1. Online digital downloading has become more popular than ever. Utachaku and iTunes are examples in which Ayu music downloads are soaring! I guess people decide to not invest as much in getting a tangible Ayumi CD but still support her through digital music downloading.

2. Ayu's tours. She has loads of fans faithfully following her through her tours and a+nation. You have to remember that even till now, she still does sell-out tours, and like it or not, they do take up a huge chunk of the money of her fans. Her fans could decide to budget, get the online music downloads, afterwhich get enough money to see Ayu live.

3. Low on Ayu's standards doesn't mean low across the entire music industry. Ayu's standards are really high. Even Ayu's recently lowest selling single Bold & Delicious/PRIDE, when compared with other artistes, has achieved high sales. As fans, I think we're spoilt with all the "platinum", "double platinum" sales that Ayu used to achieve. I think it's time you examine the entire music industry collectively before you decide.

4. Ayu is a solo female artist. Like it or not, the Jpop scene seems to favour boy groups the most e.g. SMAP, KAT-TUN, Kinki Kids since they have a lot of fan girls. It is more difficult for a female solo artist to actually achieve phenomenal success with the exceptions of Ayumi, Utada Hikaru, Namie Amuro and recently, Koda Kumi. It's a trend that is dominant in the Jpop scene, where female solo artists tend not to be favoured and look upon. Hence, for Ayu to have come this far and achieved sales like this, it's considered remarkable.

5. General decline in sales. I know ORICON would always have a totalled number to display the total number of singles and albums sold in an ORICON year. If my memory doesn't serve me wrong, all I've seen is a percentage DECLINE in overall sales. Hence, it's just part of the bigger trend that is occurring in Japan.

Hope this clears things up for people who are 'extremely disappointed' with her sales figures.

I agree with all of this. Go Ayu! AYU FTW!! Even if it's low, you're still selling thousands!! YOU GO- uh... Asian J-Pop Queen? Er, YEAH!! XD

s1012h 5th December 2006 06:56 AM

yes
they are disappointing sales for ayu standards and for what she has sold previously
but compared to everybody else
Secret is doing amazing
REAL bad sales would be like K-Fed's album
6000 copies or less
now THAT's disappointing

~X2RADialbomber~ 5th December 2006 07:02 AM

I cannot stop laughing today :)

I knew this was going to happen! I think they're great sales... at least she can still alot of albums anyway

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 5th December 2006 07:08 AM

The sales are very good compared to other albums this year, now i'm dying to know Kuu's first week sales.

[H] 5th December 2006 07:12 AM

maybe she's losing popularity in japan, but i think she's getting bigger in asia now, and bigger in asia is better than just big in japan:) i guess 386K is not bad, of course i hope for better sales.

GO AYU!

kinix 5th December 2006 07:15 AM

did u guys saw mika's new single for NANA? that's more shocking for me O.O"""

JinHamasaki 5th December 2006 07:32 AM

386k in one week? I think that's already platinum status in Japan's music industry.

Go Ayu!!

Don't worry about her sales, enjoy her music. That's what she wants you to do. I don't think Ayumi is out to dominate the world and make tons of money; she wants to make music she likes and enjoy her life now!

GO AYU!

Yeah, i think exactly like this!
only think about the rumoured Asia Tour. if it is really true, avex wouldn't risk to loose money with this tour.
so she reallly has to have millions (oh well maybe thousands :P ) of fans around asia who will fill the stadiums!

So don't worry about japan so much! ayu is becoming more and more a world star! (only wait for the quotes of TalkAsia which is aired around the world ...hehe)

And yes, compared with other solo-female-albums secret is really high sold this year!

Mad_Cactuar 5th December 2006 08:23 AM

Oh ayu_fan929, I meant flop as in less than 80k in first week sales. :D Yeah, I know that's still a huge success, but B&D got that and look what happened to her fanbase.

Qt Mashi 5th December 2006 08:56 AM

the Secret sales are disappointing but she is still doing very well~~ GO AYU~~!

Raleigh 5th December 2006 09:30 AM

Hopefully the drop next week won't be so low...
