I think the theme is supposed to be old school navy/military. The hat fits the theme. Honestly, I would not have known what the hat meant if no one had said anything, and I doubt Kuu knows. I doubt 90% of Japan knows. Who researches their hat?

And yes, Bling Bling Bling rock version is a total bad ass song. I get the same feeling from real Emotion rock version too.
