^Unh Unh. I don't like that song.

Well, whenever she decides to return to music, I'll be there for her.

I've been listening to Ultra Blue a lot lately, and it has grown on me considerably. The only songs that I think are trash are: Kairo, Wings, Dareka no negai ga kanau koro and maybe nichiyou no asa. One night magic is kinda trashy, be my last and keep tryin' are DEFINIELY growers. I love the melody and arrangement in be my last, but hikki RUINS it with "be my laAAAAAAAst x4". Ugh, the melody right before that was fire. It was just like the time when Ayu decided NOT to belt during the chorus of"Key ~eternal tie ver.~. Should have been anata gaaaaa, not anata ga. Oh well. Anyway, keep tryin' has this amazing ethereal sound but the chorus takes some getting used to.

All the other songs are gold.

Just because you dont like some of her songs or most of her songs, doesnt mean anything. something like 4 of her 7 albums are in the top sellers of all time in japan... that's not for no reason. She makes her own music...t he way she likes it...
And by tons of people on here saying that some of it is weird just proves that it's not mainstream... I dont think Hikki has ever been called mainstream either... she's a little out there and it's actually a testament at how good of a writer she is that she has been so successful.

Wow, Keep Tryin' I loved from the minute I heard it. Absolutely fantastic - super catchy. An effin' blast to sing to (my favorite part is the end when it's really fast). Don't know how anyone would need time for Keep Tryin' to grow on them - always thought it was one of her most flawless songs.

my ultimate favorites are wait and see, swift kick and hayatochi

Hello? I said THIS ONE. It was her second attempt at a mainstream album look up interviews with her talking about the album and it was a flop. I was saying I don't agree with the statement that she never fell into the mainstream crap for the masses bc she wasnt able to. Bc this one sucked. I mean the only reason most of us listen to it is bc its the most recent album and we loved all her old stuff so much unless its about a bear well like it. Like it or not hikki is autotuned gold. Just like mainstream music. Love it or shove it dude

Edit: AND shouldnt there be polls about your favorite hikki songs? Itd be nice to find some actual news on here instead of arguments and rehashed opinions. Even tho im contributing to A right now. <3

You know what's odd though is that recently everyone was saying in here how they loved This Is The One. Lol.

I believe it was a debate on the good songs and bad. mostly bad. Yo I was there.

I like TITO. Utada accurately predicted just about every mainstream pop trend 1-2 years before it happened on it. Of course, that doesn't stop the album from being generic and one of her worst.

Just OOT topics, here's Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts main composer)'s comment about Passion and Hikari regarding to the release of Kingdom Hearts 10th Anniversary FAN SELECTION -Melodies & Memories-

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/music/s...0th_fan/#!/top

Hikari
And now we're finally at the theme song for the first title, Hikari. I've heard the demo track from before this song was finished. I'm really proud of that, haha. Even the demo track had an indescribable strength to it and I felt a premonition that it would be a famous song, but even so, when I heard the master track I was still surprised at what an amazing song it had turned out to be. This song, which Ms Hikaru Utada said had the first title she'd written in kanji, and that she had taken it from her own name, is a hugely impressive famous song. When I'm down town, even now, no matter where I am around (ha ha), for an instant I slip back in time. --Yoko Shimomura

Passion ~opening version~
My first impression on hearing this song was, "this song is quite difficult to grasp..." There's a reverse-playback phrase with profound hidden meaning running in the opposite direction to the catch. For some reason it really stays with you... it's an incredible song. Ms Utada is definitely a genius. (No, I'm sure you all know that already without the likes of me having to say it) I have a friend who is really great at karaoke, and it's a long story, but they told me "it's a super hard song to sing~!" Um, please don't ask something as tactless as whether I can sing it, okay~! --Yoko Shimomura

There are no good songs; Crying Like A Child is decent, FYI is ok, and Apple & Cinnamon is tolerable if I recall correctly. The rest of the album is garbage and overall, if the album had never happened, it wouldn't affect me nor would I lose sleep over it. Hell, I was "crying like a child" when I first listened to this embarrassing second attempt at breaking into the U.S. mainstream, and not in a good way.

I find it harder to take you serious every day.

This Is The One conversation started again? :D This happens once or twice in every Hikki thread since 2009 imo. Not that it matters. Personally I really love the R&B/Pop feeling on the album. Only thing that I don't like about this album is the ugly cover. Seriously, they should've done something else with it. ._. Songs, however, are great. :)

What in the world are you talking about?!?!
By saying: THIS ONE... what is that? Do you mean the AMERICAN album This is the one? Because her america albums are on a completely different side of the table.
I'm talking about Japanese music. Japanese albums.
I would rather not think into the mediocre american albums which have to fit a certain mold in order to even work.
Which again backs up my claims that she could never fit into the mainstream. So she could never fall into the mainstream trap.

And also, for the record, by 'trying' to do a mainstream album, doesnt mean it actually becomes mainstream. By all accounts, the album failed, thus never becoming mainstream... she still has her weirdness to her.
