I heard about the switch to Live Nation through PerezHilton already, as well as the album delay. Why am I not surprised it got delayed? Oh well, it better be good, that matters more to me than how soon it's released :\

Does anyone has previous ICON magazine covers?

Vinylfantasy 16th October 2007 06:20 AM

I'm not sure why everyone here keeps saying the album is delayed because it was never confirmed for a specific date in the first place! :laugh This is all speculation unless it's from Warner, guys!

As far as the ICON mag covers go, you can find them on eBay. The magazine just went digital this year and there's only been one other one which had an H&M outtake on the cover. To get your hands on them you'll either have to buy one off eBay from an ICONer or join the fanclub.

Madonna, Live Nation link up on deal

Quote:

Madonna said in the statement that she was drawn to the all-encompassing deal with Live Nation because of the changes the music business has undergone in recent years.

"The paradigm in the music business has shifted and as an artist and a business woman, I have to move with that shift," Madonna said. "For the first time in my career, the way that my music can reach my fans is unlimited. I've never wanted to think in a limited way and with this new partnership, the possibilities are endless."

The singer still owes Warner Bros. Records another studio album and a greatest hits album.
So if they released a greatest hits album it would probably include American Life, Confessions and the new studio album, putting an end to the era.

Quote:

The deal encompasses all of Madonna's future music and music-related businesses, including the Madonna brand, new studio albums, touring, merchandising, fan club and Web site, DVDs, music-related television and film projects, and associated sponsorship agreements, the statement said.

kinomaniac 16th October 2007 10:27 PM

I'm glad she left Warner, I think now she'll have even more control over what she does (is that possible).

Thanks for the news Cyria.

I've been listening to Timbaland a lot lately... and I'm starting to like his music more and more. Now I'm anticipating M's new album even more.

"Alone Again" By Madonna & Rick Knowels In Kylie's New Documentary!

Supposedly "Alone Again" written by Madonna and Rick Knowles in the Ray of Light sessions was scrapped and given to Kylie for the Fever album but it didn't make the album because it was most likely too late to add the song, or Kylie or her label didn't want it on the album. It was then planned to be the double a-side along Come Into My World or a b-side to the single but it didn't happen. Anyway the song appeared in Kylie's new documentary, White Diamond. Madonna is also thanked in the credits of the film for the song.
As if I needed another reason to be excited for White Diamond! :luv2

Cyria 17th October 2007 06:54 AM

Kylie singing a Ray of Light song? That should be good.

kinomaniac 17th October 2007 03:04 PM

I love that cover! Really love it! It's simple, clean, yet beautiful. Really captures the essence of the whole event. I was at the concert held here in Rio and it was amazing. Stop global warming people. Now I'll stop before I break some of the forum rules. LOL

I can't wait for Kylie's White Diamond. I love the Ray of Light era, and a new song from back then is just awesome.
I also can't wait for M's I am because We Are

Thanks for the news Vinyl

The posticipation of Mimi

Mariah Carey has postponed release of her new album, previously scheduled for December 4th, until next February.

At that rate the album, a follow up to “The Emancipation of Mimi,” will be bumping right into a new CD from Madonna. At the same time, Janet Jackson – now recording for Island/Def Jam, home of Mariah—may have her new release ready too.

Get set for Diva Logjam. And to make matters even more interesting, Janet’s boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri, is the producer working with Randy Jackson and others on Mariah’s CD. Dupri brought Jackson over to Island/Def Jam with him from Virgin Records, now lost somewhere in the EMI Music shuffle.

As for Madonna, I have to say I admire the spin going on at Warner Music Group now that the Material Girl is leaving them for a $120 million payday at Live Nation. WMG, barely in existence, is crowing that they lose nothing by bidding adieu to Madonna. How totally wrong they are. Madonna was very important to them even in a figurative sense. In a real sense, Madonna could easily still have a monster hit.

If she’s smart Madonna will save her best stuff for her first Live Nation release and give WMG outtakes and miscellany to fulfill her contract with them. They don’t deserve a new album of material. My guess is Madonna is not the last artist who will exit WMG, but there aren’t so many left: just Eric Clapton, Faith Hill, Linkin Park. They are all left over from the old Warner Music.

Dupri, by the way, has a book out. Yes, he’s old enough to have written a memoir. It’s called Young, Rich and Dangerous: The Making of A Music Mogul. Dupri dishes on all the dames, and not only that: his dad, Michael Mauldin, discovered Alicia Keys!
From an article by Roger Friedman of Fox News.

As far as Warner and Mooriah, they both can suck it. :P They can't even touch M.

Cyria 18th October 2007 08:36 PM

Let's hope he's right about this:

But I'm not so sure about this:

What ends up on her studio album should at least be good outtakes. Even if Madonna wants to move on, I don't think she'd want the loss of reputation that would result from releasing a sloppy album.

kinomaniac 19th October 2007 03:10 PM

Madge won't be releasing a sloppy album! Why? It's simple, because she's a professional.
It's her career, no matter if it's in WMG or Live Nation.
And I'm 100% that she could easily have a monster hit.

Thanks for the news.

Vinylfantasy 19th October 2007 05:20 PM

She definitely doesn't release things just to release them. That's why Liz (her publicist) said in a press statement the other day that her album won't be out until March and her greatest hits package won't be out until late 2008/early 2009.

Quote:

An article from Entertainment Weekly/Hollywood Insider by Shirley Halperin:

No doubt, losing Madonna to Live Nation in what’s quickly become regarded as a historic deal (worth a reported $120 million), was a huge blow to Warner Bros. Records, her home for the last 25 years. However, while the financial terms were, for the most part, unmatchable, don’t think the label brass is necessarily quaking in the aftershock. For one thing, they had a long time to contemplate the possibility. A source tells Hollywood Insider that negotiations went back and forth for almost six months, during which Live Nation was neither the only bidder, nor the highest. Still, Warners ’’knew it was kind of leading to that," says the source. When the news finally broke internally, Warners’ staffers had just commenced three days of corporate meetings in their Burbank headquarters. Surprisingly, the vibe was optimistic. "They stopped for one second, and kept going," says an insider who was present. "It was actually sort of comforting because business went on — talking about new talent, all these releases coming out, focusing on the 360 deals... It was like, yes, Madonna was, and will be for a while longer, a hugely important artist for the company, but she’s not the only artist."

Meanwhile, on a conference call with Wall Street analysts yesterday, Live Nation CEO Mike Rapino revealed that it would be at least two years — and more realistically, three years — before they release Madonna’s first studio album, and a tour is likely "within the next 24 months."

On Warners’ end, publicist Liz Rosenberg says that the 49 year-old icon’s next record (which may feature songs from recent studio sessions with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake) could drop in March 2008, with yet another greatest hits package slated for later next year or early 2009. Rosenberg adds: "We intend to work our asses off to make them both huge successes."
A new album instrumental demo is available here.

Here's the latest remix of Sing. It's fabulous, Moto Blanco always does a good job.

LIVE NATION TO PURCHASE MERCHANDISING COMPANY
By PETER LAURIA

http://aycu19.webshots.com/image/320...0292077_fs.jpg

October 19, 2007 -- Fresh from stealing Madonna from Warner Music Group, concert promoter Live Nation is in advanced talks to acquire the Material Girl's merchandising company, Signatures Network, The Post has learned.
A deal for Signatures Network, which holds the rights to license and market more than 125 artists including U2, Kanye West and Bruce Springsteen, is expected to be announced in the next two weeks, according to four sources close to the situation.
Live Nation is paying around $50 million for Signatures Network, these sources said, with one of them adding that the merchandising company generates about $120 million in annual revenue but operates with very small profit margins.
A spokesman for Live Nation declined to comment. Signatures Network CEO Dell Furano did not return a call for comment.
Live Nation has been quietly gobbling up ancillary businesses related to the concert industry as a way to extend its reach and diversify its revenue stream.
Earlier this year the company acquired the remaining stake in high-end concert T-shirt merchandiser Trunk it didn't already own.
Last month it acquired the 50 percent portion of UltraStar it did not own. UltraStar runs the official artist Web sites for Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police and others.
Live Nation also recently bought fan club ticketing service Musictoday and merchandising company Ant Hill Trading.
Signatures Network is bigger than all of those assets combined, however, with sources saying that the $50 million Live Nation is shelling out for the company is twice what it paid for the others.
Though it has focused solely on tour merchandising in the past, sources said Signatures Network was now looking to strike all-encompassing rights deals that would also include things like fragrances and accessories in addition to tour-related merchandise.
My god, by the sound of it I'm going to be in the poorhouse for the rest of my life thanks to Live Nation! :laugh

I remember discussing celebrity perfumes and someone claimed JLo had been surprised by how much money it made her. Not that Madonna's in need of money, but it could be something she'd try next.

HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY EROTICA!

It was released on October 20, 1992 by Maverick Records. The album was released to accompany and promote the release of Madonna's first book publication, Sex. The album has sold an estimated 6 million copies worldwide. The album was recorded July 8, 1991 — August 15, 1992.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...49b95c2010.JPG

Erotica is a concept album about sexuality and relationships. Each track explores a different facet of sexuality, usually involving sexual relationships. Lyrically, the album does not tie sex and sexual relationships with the traditional ideals of romance. A dance record by all accounts, the album showcases hip hop and jazz-affected club production from co-producers Shep Pettibone and André Betts.

The album is Madonna's first album to bear a "Parental Advisory" label (the only other albums to do so being 2003's American Life and 2007's The Confessions Tour). A separate "clean" version was released without the sexually explicit song "Did You Do It?"

Original tracklisting:
1 "Erotica" [Single]
2 "Waiting"
3 "Rain" [Single]
4 "Deeper and Deeper" [Single]
5 "Thief of Hearts"
6 "Bad Girl" [Single]
7 "Why's It So Hard"
8 "Where Life Begins"
9 "In This Life"
10 "Words"
11 "Bye Bye Baby" [Single]
12 "Secret Garden"
13 "Goodbye to Innocence"
14 "Fever" [Single]
* "Did you Do it"

http://madonna.photogallery.free.fr/...k_%2822%29.jpg

Reviews of Erotica that concentrated only on the musical aspect of the album were mostly positive; Rolling Stone hailed the album as one of Madonna's best. In hindsight, both fans and critics have warmed to the album over the years, with some even considering it to be among her best work.

''Sing'' - exactly what Annie wanted it to be

There's yet another version of "Sing" that we'll listen too soon.
This is what Annie Lennox posted on her own blog about it yesterday:

"While I was in LA I managed to make a new version of Sing which is different from the album track... and will be made available (hopefully) next month.
It's exactly what I wanted Sing to be."

Annie is also performing Sing herself at concerts on her US tour which is taking place right now.

I've got a clip of Alone Again from White Diamond too but it's so low quality that it's not really worth posting.

Happy belated birthday Erotica!
It's such a great album, definitely in my top 5 of all time.

Only about 4 months until M's new album... I'm starting to get really excited!
