single up to top 200 and album top 300

I think you were.../BALLAD will sell better than S/S of course since it will be released near xmas and holiday which always have better to sell like D/G and most of all Ayu's albums

They could've organized hand shaking events or a small outdoor concert on a beach, they could've made more versions of the single with DIFFERENT (and appealing) covers, throw in some more remixes or add other bonuses, make a Barby doll that looks like Ayu on the covers (she already looks plastic enough in that photo), I dunno there are other more creative ways to promote a release other than billboards and music/o.jp CMs - in other words make the release more worthy of the money that you want people to spend. I mean I ordered the CD only version and I didn't even bother opening it, as I already downloaded the songs and there was nothing interesting inside xD

1. shaking hands event = a Big "no, no, no" after the Shibuiya incident xD

2. Small concert on a beach = Ayu was touring, either At09 or a-nation

3. More versions/remixes/etc = it's up to Ayu (and IMO it's nice to see how well she sells without 500 versions and promotional discs made of gold :B)

aura~ 28th October 2009 02:28 AM

sad it hasn't reach 110K but it has done well for what it is ^^

And also... yearly sales are at only 20K from reaching 1million!! And I Think You were.../ballad will count towards 2010...

KarenPang 28th October 2009 07:11 AM

does anyone know when's the cut off point for the next Oricon year to roll out ?

I know it's somewhere in Dec but I'm not exactly sure if Oricon count You were ... / BALLAD in their 2009 or 2010 year :shrug

nemesisyume 28th October 2009 07:42 AM

coool the sales are so nice!

Crystal_Ageha 28th October 2009 07:48 AM

^ ^ I was thinking it might count for a little of both, hah? Do they do that? It makes sense to me... Either way, I can almost guarantee that most of the sales will be for 2010. :\

Days/GREEN was released on December 17th (the 3rd week of December), and You were.../BALLAD is getting the "same" release date and it will be counted towards 2010.

TITANIC 28th October 2009 09:09 AM

you were/BALLAD will be counted in oricon 2010
oricon 2009 counted from 2008/12/8 (Monday) ~ 2009/12/13 (Sunday)
so releases on 2009/12/09 are the last

KarenPang 28th October 2009 09:10 AM

thanks guys :D , so in a way or 2 , You were ... / BALLAD will be slotted in Oricon's 2010 just like Days / GREEN

It's not like putting ayu's face everywhere is going make her sales to rise like magic...

I think it would.

If her face is everywhere, people will start to think this single must really be quite something. People will start to think EVERYONE knows about it and EVERYONE is buying it (otherwise her face wouldn't be all over the place, right?)

Sure, it wouldn't affect her fan-sales, but it would raise regular shopper's sales, also gift-giving or something. It would also raise her reputation and epicness.

However.. in the case if Sunrise/Sunset it wouldn't have worked since the covers are ugly. But imagine a stunningly GORGEOUS cover for You were.../BALLAD (imagine A COMPLETE 3CD+DVD , cover meets snow, darkness and Ayu smiling beautifuly).. Then imagine that cover being all over the place, all over billboards in Tokyo, all over the TV.

I'm very sure that would boost her sales, as well as her reputation.

waterballoon 29th October 2009 04:24 AM

^ The problem is You were...'s cover might be 75% like Sunrise, and I would feel so embarrassed for her if the cover was like everywhere in Shibuya lol

People are not going to buy it because of billboards... It makes people know she released something new, but liking the song or disliking it affect the sales a lot more than having Ayu's face everywhere

brener 29th October 2009 05:40 AM

^

but nothing like a good promotion to rise up the sales a little bit :D

Andrenekoi 29th October 2009 06:32 AM

Well, that's what I'm saying... it had good promotion... it had billboards... there were posters and tvs showing the pvs at stores... there were lives... there were a tie-in... there were cms...

Over-ayuming Japan would not make it sell better...

ayumisrael 29th October 2009 09:52 AM

Actually I'm sure that if it had more than the billboards it had it could do a bit better at least physically and maybe reach the million digitally.
It seems that the songs for the single were not the problem if Sunrise could do digitally what it did and it probably was one of ayu's least promoted releases billboardwise.
Not even a shibuya 109 poster.
I agree though that those covers might have turned a lot off. :P

Keiichi_JPU 29th October 2009 01:06 PM

^ thank GOD There wasn't a Shibuya 109 poster for Sunrise/Sunset :P hahaha

but she doesn't usually do that for singles right? I don't think even NEXT LEVEL got one?

All I've seen are these (there were probably more but these I've seen on pictures): A BEST, A COMPLETE ~ALL SINGLES~, A BEST 2, Mirrorcle World.
And then a Christmas poster and I think I am... as well.

I hope You were.../BALLAD will get one if the covers are really pretty! Japan digs winter releases anyway.

TITANIC 3rd November 2009 02:14 PM

^thanks pretty cool I guess xD

thanks for the update :)

ayumisrael 3rd November 2009 05:05 PM

Thank you for the update riozz!!

It's great to know that it sold over 110,000 with just 2 versions and no first press!

The single overall with the legal downloads did pretty well. It can't be called any sort of a flop. =D

SURREAL__RAINBOW 3rd November 2009 05:07 PM

i can't wait to see how the new single goes!! :D
