TL;DR I still don't like Taylor Swift, but I never really liked her to begin with.

Polyrhythm 3rd February 2010 12:33 AM

Taylor Swift is lyke totally amazing! :luv2 stunning gorgeous squinty-eyed-non-asian girl so magnificent! Her voice is so comparable to that of say Mariah Carey...so beautiful just look at how many golden trophies she won! She is such a novelty (there's such a lack of Country music these days)! Just look how many Grammys her record label bought her! They wouldn't spend so much money with just any ordinary girl. Her music is totally catchy and modern and her lyrics are oh soo creative and so sophisticated. Praise her! Praise that goddess who makes the future of popular music so bright. She is the most relevant thing to ever happen to 21st century music! We love Taylor Swift! Who need's lady gaga? Originality is dead! Country genericness is what will get America through these tough times...Country is what America wants obviously! cheap music for all frugal times WHOOHOO!

Comparing Gaga to Hikki is kinda unfair,

Hikki brought a new genre into Japan, Gaga didn't (I know people like to say she "invented" Dance in America, but that's not true)

To be honest I think Hikki is more talented, both as a songwriter and a vocalist, also because her songs are so diverse.

(But maybe I'm just an obsessed Hikki stan :))

Don't get me wrong by the way, I'm a huge fan of Gaga as well :D

I still think it's a fair comparison. emiko never said they were similar artists, just that they are both exceptional in their respective countires due to their talent and their innovative songwriting. Perhaps the extent of their talent differs, but their hold similar positions in their music industry...albeit at different times and focusing on different genres.

I agree that GaGa didn't invent "Dance", but I believe that she popularised it greatly, being responsible for its increased prevalence in mainstream music (kinda like what Hikki did for RnB...but Utada wins there :), I think)

As for dear Taylor, I don't think she deserves all the praise she's getting either, because both her music and lyrics show very little evolution or progression from Country and Pop standards. I am happy for her though, being so young and all.

I personally prefer Lady GaGa over Taylor Swift but I don't hate her either. It's just my taste of music. I'm more into the music what GaGa has. It's just my opinion and I won't bash Swift because I'm quite neutral about her. I don't really hate her, nor like her. :)

But anyways. I really enjoy Lady Gaga's music. I can still remember when I didn't even know who she was. My little sister asked me if I had listened to Just Dance and I told her that I don't even know what song that is or the singer for it. When I finally heard it, I couldn't say if I liked it. When Poker Face was released it blew my mind at once. :D And Love Game did the same. I just had to get her album. So far I have loved all the songs and I really love So Happy I Could Die and Alejandro. <3

Well.. if you think Gaga did more for Western music than Hikki did for Japanese music, you're an obsessed Gaga stan :D

But let's not talk about it anymore ;) Both Hikki and Gaga are amazing, talented, gorgeous women and I hope we'll get to enjoy both of them for a long time to come! :)

I don't think that though :D I think GaGa just took what was there and put some life into it. Considering how bland American music was preGaGa, and how much more danceable it is now that GaGa is around

emi♡ 6th February 2010 06:39 PM

^yes, seriously.

And you know...I love hikki...but I think we already had this discussion about how much she actually did for Japanese music lol...but uh whatever...doesn't really matter because I wasn't really talking about what they did for music, only that they produce their music in similar ways.

I think in the future, we'll look back and credit Gaga as the person who brought Dance, Pop, and I guess some electro back into our totally hip-hop immersed industry.

And you know, as the person who did it, was popular, and not a joke...like brit brit.

Telephone and monster are my favorites off her 2nd album.=D

AyUta 7th February 2010 01:29 AM

Question.

Is it confirmed that Retro Physical will be on Gaga's new album later in the year?

U-GO-BOY 7th February 2010 01:54 AM

no.

and I don't hope it will :/

Meat Pao 7th February 2010 04:27 AM

Iirc it's not Retro Physical that will be on the next album but Out of Control, which is why it hasn't leaked yet because the management warned them about it...

Misa-chan 7th February 2010 04:44 AM

sorry for starting on another random topic. anyone planning to come to japan to watch Gaga's concert in April?? ^^

i'm looking for people to go with me!! :D Gaga concerts aren't so fun when you're alone heehee~

emi♡ 7th February 2010 05:48 AM

^I wish I could go with you!

Out of Control is part of the legendary Gagademo trifecta of Retro Physical, Honest Eyes, and Out of Control. We got about a minute of it from Burim, but apparently he was told not to leak it by Gaga's management because it's going to be on her third album. Dunno if it's true or if it's his excuse not to leak it.

greggerz189 8th February 2010 12:36 AM

Let's not compare Gaga to Hikaru, please. I find that insulting to Gaga's work ethic.

As for the Grammys and Album of the Year and whatnot--why aren't we pissing and moaning about Beyonce? LOL.

Ah, and I really really hope Gaga produces a Monster Ball DVD! I need to see that.
