Well we can atleast hope that the album will have longevity due to the tour.

truehappiness 14th April 2010 09:44 PM

Somehow, I don't know if some people are thinking realistically or even within the realms of possibility when they're thinking of sales for Ayu.

She is not going to sell 100,000+ on the first day with an original album anymore. Even Namie Amuro was barely able to do that with 110k or so. (Ayu's GUILTY which was released on a surprise date of 12/25 sold 60,000 on its first day)

Ayu fans really are quite the drama queens and know how to try and convince other people that Ayu is "doing badly" when she's really already in the top 40 YEARLY ALBUMS with just her FIRST DAY.

Point is: These sales are great! Don't let anyone who thinks Ayu should've sold 100,000 / 200,000 / 400,000 first day tell you otherwise. They're living in la-la land. (To note: Ayu's first day is higher than two best-of albums that were released earlier this year.)

Random - I've seen Ayu fans do some crazy things. When HEAVEN wasn't #1 in its first day and dipped to #3, people were saying it was like the end of the world. She got #1 in the end. Ayu sold 60k on her first day [12/25] with GUILTY and people thought she was done for with sales! (The #1 first week and #2 overall for GUILTY didn't help things either. Curse you, 5296!) This also happened when forgiveness sold "only" 220k or so, or when Startin' sold 190k... and especially when Shuchishin came from nowhere and pissed everyone off by getting the #1 spot for most of the week that Ayu sold MW.

In fact, during A BALLADS (2003), she sold about 400k first week with a "remix"/"remixed ballad" album and there were people who said "These sales are terrible! What happened to Ayu?" So I suppose that this isn't a new thing with Ayu fans, and anything that isn't absurdly high is both disappointing and too real for most fans for some reason. Maybe it's something that Ayu fans just do because she's been #1 for so long.

Nackar_91 14th April 2010 10:11 PM

^I love you for that.

Just be realistic people. Never forget to put things in PERSPECTIVE.

There's nothing wrong with those wanting the sales to be higher. We love Ayu and want her to continue her success. I doubt any of us have any dissociation with reality for wanting the sales to be similar to NL's. Thanks for the sales lesson and the comparisons, but really you can try to be less condescending; after all with your 'curse you 5296!' you show that you're not too different from the rest of us who are less than satisfied with the sales.

primavera♥ 14th April 2010 10:13 PM

^^^ thank you. these are things i think about sometimes too :)

and @Yumsushi - i dont think hes being condescending at all. but if u so feel that way, then oh well. really hes just mentioning fans who think her sales are just soo terrible although in reality its quite good when considering all the factors

anywayz i think some people just wants to put ayu on a whole different level for everything. like i look at people speaking of how horrible certain songs are but then i look at otehr "popular" songs like, and ay sounds bad. and some people seem to only have certain standards for ayu i guess

That was a joke. I don't really care about 5296's #1 that much.

There are people who are saying that this 85,000+ first day isn't that good, when really it is. It's just weird that people are so fixed on Ayu being the ~highest selling~ that they're forgetting that she isn't exactly huge (GReeeeN/ARASHI huge) in Japan now. And even if she was, I think she's still struggle with sales. Just look at Namie's Past<Future. It was forecasted to sell 500-600k first week, and instead it's just barely reaching 600,000 now. I thought it was for sure a million seller. It's weird, haha.

Sorry if it sounded condescending, but I'm a little irked that no matter what era it is, anything that isn't a ~million seller~ by the first day is "bad" for people. (A BALLADS got close! 940k or something? Pretty good for a remix/ballad/whatever best, huh? People at the time thought it was terrible and that Ayu's time was up for good. Here we are pretty much saying the same thing 7 years later, haha.)

Your post makes me feel WAY~ better now... thanks.
I think you're right.

What worries me is exactly that...AYU has been #1 for so many years...that it is like..."any moment now...she'll do bad Dx"
I don't want her to think she is doing bad just because of sells... I love her music... and always will.
I want her to be the best forever (though I know nothing's forever)

Anyways... I think I know better now... She did great :yes
And despite what some people think... I'll keep the faith :P
She WILL sell more :cool

Ayu_Ready 14th April 2010 10:54 PM

she needs to stay steady for the week !

Kingdom 14th April 2010 11:11 PM

omg drama mamas, get over it, 80k for first day sales is good.

aura~ 14th April 2010 11:24 PM

drama, drama, drama... and more drama -____-

I see 2 problems... people who blame the sales and don't see that these are nowadays standarts, she'w not gonna sell +600K again with an original album! and teh second, people who let the negative opinions affect them...

the result is a negative mood for the album.

In fact I think that what makes her albums since (m)u less loved are sometimes the frustrated sales expectations from fans.

duque 14th April 2010 11:31 PM

85K! surprised it wasnnt higher than NL first day, but she still got #1 so fine by me!

hope her sales are really steady for the first 2 weeks

Im guessing 180k+ fors first week sales at the least (hoping for 200k +)

Beauty4123 15th April 2010 12:23 AM

85k is pretty good. i hope it'll get higher first week sales than NEXT LEVEL, though. :P

CHE.R.RY 15th April 2010 01:02 AM

Yikes this is intense!!! I'm crossing my fingers for Ayu! The numbers look alright so far.

Tony G 15th April 2010 02:34 AM

The sales are great on any album-selling standard. But on Ayu's past sales, these are going to look weak. Especially compared to NEXT LEVEL, which is apparently "weak" to many members here, yet sold more. GUILTY is more hated, but sold less.

Like I said before, every album is going to sell less or only a little bit more than its predecessor. because fans here love an album doesn't mean the Japanese public will. NEXT LEVEL might have been hated here, but the Japanese might have liked it more. Especially when the promotion was on a smaller scale, still sold more on the first day. it has to say something about the quality of the next level album.

AyuGAME 15th April 2010 02:53 AM

the most important is how stable this album sales can be...i just hope the sales will be more steady than NEXT LEVEL, and ended up to sold 200k in the end of the weak...

a_kingdom21 15th April 2010 02:56 AM

every yaer the album n single sales are declining....it's a sure thing,,,,

but for me 85k is a nice thing...n it's a great number for an album nowdays,,,,
take a look at the monthly chart...even many artists who cant pull 80k in full month sales,,,
but it's HAMASAKI AYUMI,,,
n we expected a fantastic sales,,,tough we know that it'll be imposible,,,

we arent make a negative thing by saying this is a bad number,,,but dont be a hypocrite....if ayu sells high u will proud of it right,,,

i only wish all the best for ayu,,,,

Emperatriz Ayumi 15th April 2010 03:15 AM

Thanks so much for the info ♥__♥!!

I hope she will sell tons of copies!!!!!!

AyuGAME 15th April 2010 03:47 AM

by the way...i'm suprised that ayu can get number one position on daily DVD chart...i thought it will be hard for her to get it, because of Arashi...

truehappiness 15th April 2010 03:48 AM

It's Arashi's second week. Haha.

It's ALSO highly possible for them to overtake her during the week.

What the samhill is this shlock?

85k is good. Yes. It is. In this day and age? With illegal downloading and the crap economy? Yes, this is quite nice for first day sales. So many artists would kill their mothers and small puppies to have sales like this on their first day for any release of theirs.

Isn't it about time people realize that sales aren't ever going to be what they were in the late 90s/early 00s -- and that it doesn't matter what an album/single ranks, anyway? :)

ok sooo LOL this is going to be like when the name of the album came out or whatever

the sales are low. the sales are high. you care, you don't care.

It's called a bitter fan trolling from the way I see it. They hate this album and they'll take any chance they can to trash it, haha. (At least, this is judging by comments about Rock'n'Roll Circus all calling this album hollow, emotionless trash and so on.)

Mothers and small puppies = priceless.

Yeah, I think its pretty likely. They sold over 450k their first week, which is insane for a dvd and they have had really long chart longevity too.

85k - probably about what I was expecting. I didn't expect it to outsell Next Level, even though I personally think the album is better.

You have a point... maybe I heard wrongly lol. But I guess they factor in pre-orders and online sales on the first day, and if there are any other of such sales that get processed later on in the week, they add it to the weekly sales?

And honestly I wish people wouldn't get too drama or upset over 85k for the first day. It really isn't THAT bad and there's no point in selling 150k in the first day and drop to like 20k or something the next day. Slow and steady wins the race... :innocent

bluegie 15th April 2010 06:16 AM

My expectation for ayu's first day sales was between 80K - 100K max. As I said before, the hype of this album could be just a little illusion. People got higher hopes because this album seemed to be loved — in AHS. The energetic reactions towards this album in here may not indicate the same thing for the general public in Japan. I dun really know how the Japanese (casual listeners) think about this album, so that's why I set a range for the first day sales prediction.

Of course, this album may have a better longevity compared to NL if it has a better reception in Japan. I dunno if R'nRC is better than NL (I haven't listened to any materials yet except microphone), but I still wish for a steady sales :).

~*Mabushii*~ 15th April 2010 06:18 AM

WoWee 15th April 2010 06:51 AM

I readed this just at http://www.ayusstory.blogspot.com
At an scan from bea's up this was writen something and this was wat Ayumixx, the ''boss'' posted:
[この春から2年ぶりとなるアジアを含めたツアーが開始する

"from this spring for the 1st time, in these 2 years, there will be asia tour"

so Ayu will actually have ASIA TOUR this year??]

I don't know how she translated but is it is true isn't it exiting news??
this is writen on the page were you can see some info about RnRC and left from that in the ''profile'' thing.

I definitely think that it will have better longevity given the strength of the non-single tracks, especially "Don't Look Back," "Last Links," and perhaps "Sexy little things." RnRC, like NEXT LEVEL, is an album that cannot be judged primarily on the sound of the singles at all. NL's album tracks -- with the exception of "Sparkle" -- were shockingly different than the singles which may have hurt its longevity. RnRC's album tracks, in contrast, seem to have much more appeal to the casual listener, at least that's what I'm gathering from the non-Ayu fans whom I've introduced the album to. Therefore, as more of the Japanese public are introduced to the more mainstream album tracks, perhaps that will increase its longevity on the Oricon charts.

miroro 15th April 2010 10:54 AM

wow, the second day is great!!!:heart
i'm so so glad

PEARL 15th April 2010 10:55 AM

ayupan90 15th April 2010 11:04 AM

Same problem as with Kuu they are simply no boybands XD

So for female solo artists they sell ver well.

freedreamer 15th April 2010 12:22 PM

Im just hoping this alubm will sell about 350k in the long run. Second day feels good. Im expecting a half drop each day...(hopefully it wont happen)..well its about 120k now :) looks like a good number haha..(sometimes it scares me that her sales for One day could have outsold another artiste's release for a year...its sad but true)

Ayu_Ready 15th April 2010 12:24 PM

disaster... I hope it will have the same life as GUILTY and will finish at 500k as it.

KarenPang 15th April 2010 12:33 PM

yes , 2nd day sales dropped almost close to 1/2 from yesterday's :dead

but she's still #1

http://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/ja/d/

ayumisrael 15th April 2010 12:44 PM

2nd Day

Total Sales: 127,430

2nd Day
Position: #1 (In both music and overall DVD charts!)

AyuGAME 15th April 2010 12:46 PM

i still crossing my fingers, and hoping that japan loves the album more that we expected...i hope that the sales will more steady and stable...and the drop of tomorrow sales will be less than we expected...
if tomorrow sales is around 35k, i will be very happy and pleased with that...i hope the this album will follow guilty sales pattern, not NEXT LEVEL sales pattern

and wow..i'm amazed ayu still got number one on DVD daily chart...maybe there is a miracle that she can get number one weekly position...

if she can beat ARASHI on DVD chart..that will be very amazing...!!! :thud

miskiq 15th April 2010 12:50 PM

hopefully it will have a steady number sales better than next level

AyUmIXx 15th April 2010 12:52 PM

AH~ GREAT..i hope it'll be stable~
ganbatte Ayu!!

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 15th April 2010 01:19 PM

oh... Buy some Rock'n'Roll Circus again Japan!

inspire_rmx 15th April 2010 01:35 PM

I'm satisfied with the sales. came to a point that the good music in album matters much more. definitely enjoyed it more than next level =)
I kinda hoping it will sell over 350,000 in the long run (hope for a good second week)

TITANIC 15th April 2010 02:09 PM

I guess with AT 2009 DVD and RnRC she will set new record which the only artist to hold the top chart for more than 1 releases during the same day for more than once.the first is SURREAL,Duty,Dome tour 2001 and the 2nd is RnRc and AT 2009.

is there any artist to holf the top position more than 1 releases in the same day for more than once? I only can think WANDS and KAT-TUN but they got it only once

y_nathz 15th April 2010 02:15 PM

Ah I wish it'll be great tomorrow >_<

i hope she can do this again...
but i don't know...me myself kinda doubt it...because she facing a huge contender on dvd area...and that is ARASHI!!! its their second week...but their DVD sales is sooo strong..but i just wish the best for ayu...and hoping for a miracle

TITANIC 15th April 2010 02:28 PM

^ the DVD still #1 so far... so Arashi isnt the threat for her

ayumisrael 15th April 2010 02:37 PM

Well arashi's last DVD sold around 35,000 it's 2nd week while ayu's last DVD sold around 40,000 first week. ^^

Bad Wolf 15th April 2010 02:43 PM

She already crossed 100k+ sales?! o_o *******, that's... that's somethin' special.

this arashi DVD is kinda exceptional though...its already sold 450k in the first week..so..i believe it won't drop down that much in the second week..maybe it still can sell about 75-100k in the second week...

but just let's wait and see...usual ayu number is around 50k right?

aura~ 15th April 2010 03:41 PM

Happy with the numbers! For now is better than guilty! Ti would be perffct if it could keep sales around 30k everyday an don't drop half every day.

♥Rain 15th April 2010 03:43 PM

ah i'm happy with these too. hopefully from tomorrow it'll stabilize. she can definately manage to pass 200k this week i think

jbrat2219 15th April 2010 04:35 PM

I don't know why but when I went to check Oricon I expected 20k... Don't ask me why! I was delirious at the time but anyway, GOOD JOB AYU. :D Keep it up honey <3

Btw I've heard that CDs sold at the concert venue don't really count, is that true?

SunshineSlayer 15th April 2010 04:51 PM

^ They used to. But that made it too easy for record companies to manipulate sales numbers. Now only 30% of what the record company reports counts from concerts.

jbrat2219 15th April 2010 04:57 PM

That seems fair and not fair at the same time lol.

love in music 15th April 2010 04:59 PM

I hope there's not a huge drop tomorrow. 2nd day sales are pretty good~

brener 15th April 2010 05:35 PM

the CD+DVD ver. has sold out at play-asia and HMV...

Crystal_Ageha 15th April 2010 05:51 PM

^ :D

Whoo!! Sales are already above average, and if this keeps steady, sales have the potential to be amazing. :yes Go, go, go Ayuuuu!!!~ Like Rain said, she should pass 200k the first week. :)

duque 15th April 2010 05:58 PM

Im also hoping that she sale 200K or maore in the first week xD

either way im really happy with the album xD

waterballoon 15th April 2010 06:37 PM

not bad for the 2nd day... not bad!

primavera♥ 15th April 2010 07:58 PM

this is great for second day. quite pleased ^____^

truehappiness 15th April 2010 08:26 PM

The way I'm seeing it is that she's outsold both You were... and Sunrise in two days, and she's going to outsell Rule/Sparkle tomorrow, haha.

waterballoon 15th April 2010 08:30 PM

^ did you seriously compare an album to singles? :laugh

ayumisrael 15th April 2010 08:30 PM

next target would be Bold & Delicious/Pride+Rule/Sparkle, then glitter/fated, then Trust+Startin'/Born To Be..., and then BLUE BIRD!
If it can top all of those it will be great. ^^

Well in these times it's kind of make sense in a way XD

It's already 4 and a half months into the year and there are just 11 albums that outsold ayu's Rule/Sparkle by far lol.

Hey, some artists can't outsell their singles.

50k single sales vs. 15-20k album sales.

-shrugs-

And a lot of Ayu's singles' sales from 2005 and earlier could be in the top 20 "yearly album" sales chart, haha. (300k+)

Shush, I didn't want to hurt their feelings, haha.

But yeah, basically, Ayu's doing really well. My favorite artist/act next to Ayu (Every Little Thing) just sold 27k so far with their latest album. Ughhhh.

If there's something that's great about Ayu's sales, it might be how steady they are. There's never a huge dramatic drop in different albums. Like one album selling 700K and the next 100K or something; Ayu doesn't have bi-polar sales, they just gradually decrease.

I was going to say that Every little thing's last album sold a whole lot so that must have been a let down but it was actually Dreams come true's that sold 600K last year... I always mix up the two.

Ayumi27 15th April 2010 08:47 PM

Nice sales so far...

LEOyumi 15th April 2010 10:39 PM

I was actually hoping it would sell better than NL, but oh well.. Average sales. Is there promotion coming up in TV these days? Or is it just the tour now?
