She fired the previous director and directed the video herself, apparently.

I actually liked the simplicity but I didn't like the fact she looked so bored. The vocals leave you to believe this is such a powerful song and yet her face was so stiff and the lipsyncing was downright awful. If she put more of herself and some lively spirit into the video, then it would have been perfect to me. But it ended up looking exactly how it was produced, a rushed, last-minute video. The Google Chrome video would have made a better music video than this! In fact, I'm just going to dub that the official one instead. :laugh

AyuHamasaki01 17th June 2011 06:38 PM

The video was really boring but I guess it was nice somehow.

My opinion is that whilst not an exciting, nor really that interesting, PV - it'll show people she's not always so intense, like with the others. Most Western PV's shown on TV here are like that. To the general public, who obviously don't care as much as Gaga fans about her PV's, they'll probably find it more accessable. She looked really beautiful in it anyway.

If there are Gaga fans looking for simplicity they must be confusing her with some other artist cause she hardly does anything "simple". But hey, they got it now if that's what they were after.

zoomzoom 17th June 2011 09:42 PM

^More like, "in touch" with her music. It's in no way new or revolutionary, it's so annoying to see her create these overly complicated videos as if that's the case. It just reeks of trying too hard. Her earlier videos weren't like that.

Although unfortunately, the circumstances around the video probably dictated the outcome more than her creative vision.

I think people were more asking to see a different side of her, I've seen people post here before wanting a "more real, simple" Gaga or w/e. Either way, I'm just glad she went for a simple, beautiful look with a video that was so focused on herself. I think it suited the song too. After a music video like Judas, I'm not really going to hate on this one being more toned down.

No, to be honest I don't believe what they're trying to say here. Basically they're saying she's not released how much goes to charity clearly, so they're sueing her on that basis? I think it'll be one of those stories that gets forgotten the week after it's published. :shakehead

Lady Gaga's response

Quote:

Lady Gaga: Wristband Lawsuit 'Without Merit'

7:53pm UK, Tuesday June 28, 2011

Jane Witherspoon, entertainment correspondent
Lady Gaga says a lawsuit accusing her of pocketing cash from the sale of charity wristbands is "misguided" and "without merit".

Lady Gaga pictured during a news conference of the MTV video Music Aid Japan event in Tokyo

Lady Gaga publicises a concert for victims of the Japan tsunami and earthquake

The wristbands were designed to raise money for the Japanese earthquake relief effort.

The $5 (£3.13) items are sold on the Poker Face star’s website which states "All proceeds go directly to Japan relief efforts".

Detroit-based 1-800-LAW-FIRM has filed the lawsuit claiming the singer has profited from the sales and overcharged customers for postage and packaging.

But Lady Gaga said: "This misguided lawsuit is without merit and unfortunately takes attention away from the kind deeds of the fans around the world who are supporting the people of Japan.

"The entire $5 donation made with the purchase of each bracelet is going to support the disaster relief.

Lady Gaga wears a wristband with the words We Pray for Japan

Lady Gaga pictured wearing one of her wristbands

"No profit is being made on shipping costs. Sales tax charges were made in accordance with local legal requirements.

"Lady Gaga has personally pledged her own funds to this cause and continues to support the victims of the disaster."

Legal investigator David Darby said: "It all stems from the fact that people who order the wristbands from an online store were charged tax. Why did this raise a red flag?

"Well, charitable donations are not subject to taxation. So if all proceeds from the sale of those wristbands were actually going to help the relief effort, then there would have been no need to charge tax."

Efforts are ongoing in Japan to rebuild areas of the country following the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami in March. Lady Gaga has reportedly donated £2m to help.

Sarah Miller from the Charity Commission told Sky News that there is a code of conduct for setting up charities and they should be transparent about costs.

It is a shame that this might tarnish the goodwill but it remains to be seen and it may be that everything is fine and dandy.

Music journalist Chris Roberts

She said: "There are always costs attached to fundraising.

"It is important that people realise there will be some cost but it is good for charities to be able to explain exactly where money is going so people can make informed decisions about how they can help."

Many charities rely on celebrities to raise their profile as well as cash.

Music journalist Chris Roberts said Lady Gaga's association with Japan's relief effort will have boosted charitable donations.

He said: "You would be deeply grateful to have a celebrity of the magnitude of Lady Gaga on board so that will certainly have helped the cause.

"It is a shame that this might tarnish the goodwill but it remains to be seen and it may be that everything is fine and dandy.
Blegh, '1-800-LAW-FIRM' is clearly doing this for publicity. Gaga should totally counter sue them for libel and defamation.

Yukitora 29th June 2011 05:08 PM

^Who is he scamming? If he's right, he'll do the world a lot of good. If he's wrong, then he bares the loss.

Just because he questions an act of good will of a well meaning superstar, does not make him a scumbag.

koumori 29th June 2011 06:28 PM

^ They have no evidence :shrug They're basically saying they're filing a lawsuit just because the charity itself she's linked to isn't revealing more details about where the money is going, which charities usually don't do at all anyway. They're using her name as a headline-grabber; old news.

Minttulatte 29th June 2011 07:26 PM

I'm seriously lolling for the whole thing. Why do they want to know where the charity money is going anyway? Why is it even that important? It goes for JAPAN, that's a perfect answer and that's all I personally need to know lol. :D

tl;dr: Gaga rejects claims about cashing in on her charity bracelets, her agent insisting:

"The entire $5 donation made with the purchase of each bracelet is going to support the disaster relief. No profit is being made on shipping costs. Sales tax charges were made in accordance with local legal requirements. Lady Gaga has personally pledged her own funds to this cause and continues to support the victims of the disaster."

Also he mentioned this all stemmed from people who ordered online being made to pay tax, which is per standard with legal requirements and Gaga nor any of her staff or management made any money from her charity bracelets for Japan.

EDIT: Main quote from Gaga: "This misguided lawsuit is without merit and unfortunately takes attention away from the kind deeds of the fans around the world who are supporting the people of Japan."

Lady Gaga puts up clips from her TV lives on her official channel and I'm pretty sure she doesn't get permission to do so. I always thought that was pretty cool that she did, lol, it's too bad they've terminated her account!

Minttulatte 14th July 2011 09:36 PM

She was a guest on SMAPxSMAP a while ago and uploaded the performances on youtube. Kinda stupid that youtube suspended her account though >.>

SURREAL__RAINBOW 15th July 2011 04:08 AM

tokyoxjapanxfan 15th July 2011 03:11 PM

No one is supposed to upload pictures/videos of any Johnny's acts--it's only fair that her account would be terminated as well. It's just unfortunate and a silly rule that J Ent has.

Mirai Noah 15th July 2011 07:14 PM

She didn't have just clips from her Japanese TV appearances, but also from other countries as well. But yeah, I think it was the SMAP x SMAP that got her in trouble.

Was anyone else here really disappointed by Born This Way??

NintendoHTF1242 23rd July 2011 03:48 PM

It's not "album of the decade" like she makes it out to be, but it's a really nice and cohesive album. My only issue is her enunciation sucks.

JackieRos 23rd July 2011 04:58 PM

I was at first because it was hyped but then my love for some songs got over that

Zahara 23rd July 2011 05:30 PM

To be honest, I didn't listen to the hype surrounding the album. I was expecting the album to be crap, and I was surprised by how it surpassed my expectations. I love this album, and I think I love it even more than TFM because of how different it sounds.

wildconnetta 23rd July 2011 07:05 PM

It is an excellent album. Best of year (not decade).

CHE.R.RY 25th July 2011 04:07 AM

For me it's the best album of the year SO FAR...but the more I have listened to it the more I don't really think it's 'amazing'. I really like it, but I got tired of it really quickly...It took me a LONG time to get sick of The Fame Monster, so I was really surprised I got over it so fast...That doesn't mean I don't still love it it's just I'm not really addicted to it any longer like I was when it first came out.

koumori 25th July 2011 06:16 AM

Born This Way is a good album. Not legendary. Not era-defining. But still a good album. I'm not disappointed with it as a pop album, but disappointed that it was the follow-up to The Fame Monster. That album was hard to follow though.

George 25th July 2011 10:07 AM

The hype killed it for me but it's a good album. I agree though it's impossible to top The Fame Monster.

1) Song is cute, but you can't really listen to it that often, not me anyway.

2) I think it wouldn't do well in the charts, at all. same goes to the radio broadcasting.

3) And what pisses me off the most, there are soooooo many better options to pick from, I just don't even want to think that because of this song I might end up not getting a single for: Scheiße, Marry The Night, Hair, Government Hooker or Heavy Metal Lover, for example.

I'm not sure she could top Speechless as far as ballads go. Comes from the heart. Plus Luc's an ******* I hear so... don't really care for a song about him. :innocent

stepYOU1234 29th July 2011 11:48 PM

I really like You and I and can't wait for the video. Sounds promising. There should be at least one more single from BTW.
I wonder if there is a single that will continue from the Telephone music video within the album. Just imagined Beyonce on Marry the Night :D
I also thought the next video was going to feature Yuyi the mermaid?? And I had assumed it was Hair but that has sort of passed now. There never seems to be a plan with Gaga; it is always very fluid and subject to change I find especially if she isn't happy with it.

susiowong 30th July 2011 12:18 AM

Hmm, I'm a little confused. I've never heard of somebody releasing a single after it's already been released in an album. Isn't it usually the other way around - singles are released before albums?

emi♡ 30th July 2011 12:28 AM

^not in the US and the way the sales work. Usually you release the album, and then you release the singles (most importantly to the radio stations) and its like promo for people to go get the album....i guess lol other people can probably explain better...

Anyway, caught Gaga's performance in So you think you can dance...and it was great...until she started singing You and I...what a crappy boring song. And then the acoustics sucked and you could barely hear her...was boring. Oh well.

NintendoHTF1242 30th July 2011 12:57 AM

^^ The US way of releasing singles is different from how Japan works. It surprised me too, don't worry.

susiowong 30th July 2011 01:05 AM

That makes sense, emiko. And I'm glad I'm not the only one surprised by it. XD What an unusual way to promote the album. I would think that the only people buying the singles would be core fans.

emi♡ 30th July 2011 05:20 AM

Oh no, it surprised me too! I knew nothing about singles before I got into Japanese music, cause I mean, you know, youre from the US, people never really talk about singles lol

And then yeah, no one really bought them until recently...I still dont know why they would either...if the album is out...

SURREAL__RAINBOW 30th July 2011 05:42 AM

I really hope that she'll end up turning almost every song in the album into a single lol and why not, isn't Rihanna up to her 7th single from Loud?? :thud

Well the singles aren't released to promote a single physical CD like in Japan. Japan, singles are released to sell a single - physical (and digital). But in the USA, usually 1 single is released before an upcoming album (lately it has been 2). There is no emphasis put on physical disks like in Japan. A spectacle is not made out of the single - the single(s) is/are just to promote the (upcoming) album itself. Then as time goes on, more and more "singles" are released (to the radio) to promote the album. Hardcore fans will buy the album right away, but the more top-charting singles that are released to the radios, the more potentially new fans the album will reach.
