I don't think she was trying to be that deep, because she doesn't look ridiculous to me, but sexy and I'm sure that was the goal :laugh Nothing wrong with being sexy though.

Ya, don't think ayu is so deep.... This is a pv, not literature class...

This is Ayu we're talking about here. She usually has some kind of meaning for everything.

ayumisrael 27th November 2013 12:24 PM

How would they be able to show ayu's confidence with anyone else but ayu?

Well, if the PV was about confidence, that guy would fall for the chubby girl and they would live happily ever after. Or the chubby ayu. Or whatever lol

Federica-chan 27th November 2013 12:36 PM

I really don't like this video because the message of the video could be missunderstanding. I don't think Ayu would gave a bad message but is what i feel watching it. :°(

Sven@.@ 27th November 2013 12:38 PM

That was kind of weird.

I feel like I know what they were trying to convey with this PV, like a light-hearted, feel good about yourself type of video but it didn't match up with what I actually saw.

It's awesome to have videos inspiring people to reach their goals (like the Born to Be video) and Ayu has done campy videos really well (Startin') but this just feels...off.

I mean, maybe instead of the girl turning into Ayu at the end, why not have her join up with Ayu in the dance sequence with DJ Hello Kitty instead? Like it seems there were other ways of showing being happy with yourself than the way the ending turned out. I know they had to show Ayu in more screen time, but the ending just makes the whole video....ambiguous in meaning.

Surreal17 27th November 2013 12:38 PM

I like very much the interpretation of Yoake..that really made me like the pv more..at the beggining I was really "shocked" but I like the fact that she's always taking risks..well almost always!

Zeke. 27th November 2013 12:43 PM

It means get happy, healthy and fit, and then you'll get that muscle stud diiick. http://www.godlikeproductions.com/sm/pgceiono.gif

maxikot 27th November 2013 12:46 PM

The PV is at least suprising xD Nobody could expect that so that's fine. Whole thing is very light and fine for me - fits the cheesy mood of the song. And i just love how the ending is interpreted like it's something super deep. For me it's simple. Ayu is her idol, so in the end she pictured herself as Ayu with this guy cause she was happy. Oh and animated parts were fine, done in such cheap way on purpose.
Funny thing really, i wonder how it will work on sales.

pimenta 27th November 2013 12:47 PM

I can't watch it right now ;___;
I'll be dying from curiosity util I get home >.<

Cahz- 27th November 2013 12:48 PM

This is how I see it: The girl wanted to be like Ayu so much that she ended transformed into her. So, in the end, the girl who gets the love of the guy it's not her "real" her anymore.
Conclusion: You should be and accept yourself, and not to try to be like another person. If you try to be like another person, you may lose your own self while doing it.

.

I think I wasn't accurate in my first post. At the beginning she starts to do sport for him not for herself. Because she think that (as the society shows it) she have to be thin & dress up sexy with glamourous dress to catch his attention. At the end, you saw that he doesn't pay attention to her because she just want to look according to the society's standarts (She is not herself and looks as all the girls without personnality who just follow the trends.). She understands it -the balloons symbolise the fact that she is released from society's pressures- & finally, accepts herself as she is. The guy notice the changement & saw her true beauty (symbolise by Ayu). If they had let the fat girl, we could't understand that her spirit changed. She finally accepted herself & looks more beautiful. Ayu is just an image. The fat girl is again here, "Ayu" is just how the guy saw the fat girl. Unfortunately, few people see fat girls or fat boys beautiful because they only see the appearance. Here ayu symbolises the soul, the heart of the fat girl. Moreover, the girl didn't slim down in several days, so it's impossible in 2 secondes. XD
But well, it's only my view. ;)

Earth_maiden 27th November 2013 01:03 PM

I'm a big/fat girl and I didn't find it offensive. I thought the actress looked really pretty when she had her makeover scene. I could see myself BEING offended at the ending, but I choose to see it as something positive, work hard towards your goals and be happy. It's not a lifestyle guide, its just a music video. :D

But her 'spirit' isn't supposed to change :laugh Just her attitude, in order for her to be fit and healthy. I disagree once again, that is called flirtation at the end, he couldn't see her soul at all ;)

So what you're saying is that you probably won't see it any other way other than "this PV has a bad message"...?

No, as I said before, I don't think that was their attention, it was supposed to be positive and funny, but I find it just silly now and can't see any deeper meaning in it, especially the part with "soul" because the PV's end is obvious.

Delicious n Bold 27th November 2013 01:20 PM

But also it's sad that ayu's never gonna have them expensive videos ever again..

DnB, I wouldn't worry about that. Ayu never really has her expensive PVs in the states. I mean you can count fairyland, but eh... haha.

Name me one other than fairyland or GREEN that was 'expensive' looking that was filmed outside of Japan and wasn't Sexy little things/Microphone. I think she's just had way too many on-location PVs lately and she hasn't filmed a PV in Japan in HOW long? Last one was probably Melody. Out of the last album's PVs, only three~ were done in Japan and two were in studios. (Missing was in front of Mt. Fuji iirc) Everything else was done somewhere overseas whether it be LA or some other location in a public or public-looking lot. If the concepts were like Dearest, I suppose more people would be okay with them, but that can only really be done once before it gets to be too much.

tenshi no hane 27th November 2013 01:27 PM

I liked it. It's fun and it's definitely different from her previous PV's.

Now give me Merry-go-round in full! ;_;

Refix 27th November 2013 01:51 PM

I like it. Funny yet kinda touchy although some people might get offended by this pv. And agree with other member post, the last part is kinda crappy... she needs an acting lesson.

tokyoxjapanxfan 27th November 2013 01:52 PM

Haaaaah

I thought it was really comical in a good way :-)

But yeah her acting has gone really bad. I suppose she's going for cute over sexy.

truehappiness 27th November 2013 01:53 PM

Hm...

When she falls on the broom, just what is it that she sees on the building? It looked like a skeleton or something.

errikkutrancex 27th November 2013 02:06 PM

nice !!! it changes ! Ayu is not really present in the PV so we are not bored of her always faces...Quite funny.

AyuGAME 27th November 2013 02:08 PM

i think it's cute..and very creative...i really love the idea and the story and all scene is so unique and made me want to replay it again and again...this is good...make me liking the song even more...

like what Yoake thinking...i agree with it...
and maybe the "ayu"s part doesn't mean that the woman has transform, but more that if you work hard, you will get people to see your beauty and liking you. I think maybe "ayu" in there is just a symbolsym of perfect woman.

ayu-butterfly 27th November 2013 02:10 PM

Not a big fan of this PV. For me, it would be better if the girl ended up meeting the guy after her hair/make up transformation, when she was pretty and ready to go.
I think it does send the wrong message, that only if you have a nice body, like Ayu's, the man you like will look at you. And, honestly, I felt it was super weird that girl "becoming" Ayu in the end, since they are NOTHING alike. If it was meant to be like this, I'd rather see a fat Ayu in the beginning and a slim Ayu at the end.
And, I agree with what's been said here, she looked stupid at the end, she can flirt, she's a sexy woman, she doesn't need all those unnecessary "aegyo" (sorry, don't know another word for that), she doesn't need to look cute all the time. I think she's the cutest when she's acting naturally.

njanjayrp 27th November 2013 02:19 PM

I think the video is fun and people shouldn't think too much about it even though I like Yoake's interpretation.

I am not taking it too seriously and I am glad we got something different.

i agree with yoake's interpretation, that's how i see the PV after the 2nd watching.

Lol at philosophical ramblings on a music video with the budget of a youtube parody.

meilyn67 27th November 2013 02:36 PM

honnestly, i like this PV, i think that it fits the song very well. I don't think that ayu would say that bad message like "be thin if you wan't to be loved", i mean, ayu had so many time spoked about confidence ,accepting it self . btw...i'm just so happy to see something else than poor love story pv XD
(i'm new here and i don't know if there is any presentation section for new member :s)

Didz-19 27th November 2013 02:43 PM

Hahaha! I think all of you think too much of the video. It's just a PV for god sake. you only think about the chubby girl. i really like Yoake's explanation. it's a good thing ayu made this PV, what if it was Timmy being the lead actor in the PV??? I don't think you guys want that~ lol

Keiichi_JPU 27th November 2013 02:43 PM

This is a joke right?

Seriously, is everyone playing along with it? This is not actually an Ayu PV right? Are we sure her YouTube account hasn't been hacked or something.

LEOyumi 27th November 2013 02:50 PM

It was kinda funny, but I wish the ending was different. The girl should've gotten her man with her own body.
But the last scene with ayu was so gorgeous, she looked so good!

A-TeensFan 27th November 2013 02:51 PM

I truly hope she has another version coming out.
I don't hate this video but it's just not what I expected.

Andrenekoi 27th November 2013 02:53 PM

The girl is an Ayu fan.
In the end of the video she gets Ayu's confidence and gets the hot boy.

If they were trying to say the fat girl and Ayu were the same person, they would have used an asian fat girl.

ayumisrael 27th November 2013 03:00 PM

Actually, I think that ayu portrays the girl, since she behaves like her (what some call the bad acting) it's not bad acting, it's silly acting, like how the girl was being silly =)

If ayu really portrays the girl then ayu's acting is actually great (logically) =P lol

Fun stuff.

AyuGAME 27th November 2013 03:01 PM

In that case, Ayu is very conceited. Either way, Ayu's race issues and identity issues are fascinating.

Part of the blame is that she's been up and down when it comes to love for the last few years... mid to late 2010 is when things REALLY changed, haha.

relmy 27th November 2013 03:46 PM

omg the pink title card, the animation parts, those sticker lips appearing everywhere. I'm pretty sure some people here could make something better than that.

The end of the video was a mess, the girl should have just punched muscle man and been happy with her new motivation. Then her and Ayu should have gone for cocktails. THAT would have been a "hard work gets you places" video not... whatever that ending was.

I just... I don't even know anymore lol

Kodou 27th November 2013 03:47 PM

I'm dying here from reading your reactions

tasking 27th November 2013 03:47 PM

I like Yoake's interpretation, but unfortunately most people aren't gonna see it that way, especially when a good percentage of those people watching are gonna be kids thanks to Hello Kitty. So the fact that it's basically saying "if you want your crush to like you, lose weight" or "lose weight and you'll look like Ayu!" and you have to really analyze it to see otherwise was a really bad decision on Ayu's/the director's part.

1) if you work hard you'll be able to reach your goal
2) If you accept yourself, you'll look great & beautiful in the eyes of others.
=> to accept yourself isn't as easy as you can think. It can take a lot of time & work to be able to do it. (it's why we see the girl runs and does sport during several days)

I don't think the message is : lose weight to be accepted by guys, girls. If it was that, we'll see the fat girl becomes thin. But here, the guys sees her differently....as a different person from what she was at the beginning (before she accepted herself as she is). It's why she turns into Ayu & she didn't slim down.

For me, this pv gets an international message too. The look of others on some people are formed by our societies (for example you never see fat people as model for a fashion magazine). The society want us to be as its wants, for example, thin. For me, Ayu denounce that. It's why she amplifies her acting at the end to look ridiculous...she wants us to laugh about that & wants us to stop to think that these things are the right thing to do or the most important things to do, to feel good about yourself. The first step is to accept yourself as you are & not to mould youself according to society's standarts.

Well, I don't know if what I wrote is really clear! Sorry >.<

Best explanation of the video :yes I totally agree.

I loved this video, it was a bit shocking at first but very fun with an overall good message.

I think most viewers will just be laughing at how ridiculous the entire video is rather than think it's seriously pushing some kind of "you should lose weight or look like Ayu to get someone to like you" message.

I mean... "did that girl just turn into Ayu?" was probably on everyone's minds at the very end, hahaha.

jyujiw 27th November 2013 03:50 PM

I found it very funny :lol
It's clear that the girl and Ayu are the same person, I think everyone concluded this, that explains the "poor acting", both are acting silly to be comic. That kind of trashy humor that some love and some hate. You can see in the cartoons this feeling as well.

I really like the Yoake explanation, although, maybe it's too deep. I just think the girl worked hard to find her lover, trying to be skinny and such but when he saws her, it doesn't matter any of the things she tried (because she doesn't change at all from the beginning to the end), he saws her beautiful inner self impersonated in the image of Ayu.
Kind of the "beauty is in each one's eyes" concept.

Kazeyomi 27th November 2013 03:51 PM

People are overthinking, seriously.
As a overweight girl (well not like that girl, but I'm definetely not thin), I don't see anything offensive in the PV. It's funny, silly and REALLY different from her usual meaningful and strange PVs. The animated parts could be better, I know they want to resemble 60s ones, but they looks like Flash cheap animations.

Anyway, If you really want to get a message out of the PV, they are probably:

- Ayu have a bad case of dysmorphic disorder and think she's a overweight dorky girl.

- If you're confident in yourself, you will look beautiful.

The only thing that scared me is Ayu acting bimbo. That's frightening.

Seriously, she WIPES HER FACE with a piece of fried chicken, pushes people out of the way (very forcefully I might add), barges in on an aerobic lesson, and drives out some male dancer in the middle of a dance practice with some friends to yell at said friends and then join in their routine. This video is essentially a cartoon brought to life.

relmy 27th November 2013 03:57 PM

I just think she could have pushed the "confidence = beautiful" message without having the girl turn into her.

You know, by the girl getting the guy the way she is? I'm sure the rest of the video and the part with the makeover do enough to show that she's now confident and happy in herself.

I think that was probably a possible ending, but with the twists that they LOVE putting in since Rock'n'Roll Circus, I'm not surprised they went with an Ayu ending over a "girl getting the guy the way she is" ending.

The ending wasn't a twist though. The girl staying the way she is ending would have been a twist.

A larger girl becoming thinner and supposedly happier, and then getting the guy is so typical.

I thought it was very boring and just "why...?" I'm not crazy about the music either, so this whole single is a bust for me. :\

Alternas 27th November 2013 04:09 PM

I really don't know what to think about this. It was fun and unexpected but ... some parts looked a bit cheap. And i didn't really understood the message behind the end. I thought the girl would finally feel pretty and confident and get the boy but instead she turns into Ayu... Well i find it sad if it was all about girls have to be pretty end thin to have a boy.

AyuGAME 27th November 2013 04:10 PM

by the way, looking on that overweight girl, i feel motivated and see a different side...
even though you are overweight, you can be very healthy (i think this is the meaning of the scene when she pushed away marathon players)...she can be very confident and don't have any fear..and of course looks pretty (the scene when she got make over, and DJ Hello Kitty suprised by the way she looks)

i don't know...i feel that the PV working nicely altogether..and supporting the song very well...

for people that said Hello Kitty is for a kid, you really don't know how famous Hello Kitty in Japan. I think every Japanese women love Hello Kitty!

truehappiness 27th November 2013 04:12 PM

Hm, I suppose I meant more of a Masashi Muto-twist. The girl 'becoming' Ayu was just... so him. Also they probably wanted to involve Ayu in the narrative somehow and this is how they did it.

I did like how the lead actress' character basically had no fear whatsoever. She was basically like... I KNOW WHAT I WANT OKAY? and went for it.

Benikari47 27th November 2013 04:30 PM

Damn, this is possibly one of the worst music videos i've seen in my entire life. I get that's it's just supposed to be silly and nothing more but everything about it looked awkward, low-budget and half-assed. I would even like one of those boyfriend concept PV's more than this, or a simple club styled one for that matter. To think this woman used to make the most incredible music videos in the whole J-Pop industry, hoping for something much better with the Merry-Go-Round video.

Video: No
Songs: Meh
Covers: YES

Not digging this release at all, but let's just get this out of the system Ayu :P

truehappiness 27th November 2013 04:34 PM

She still does once in a while when she actually makes music videos. Falling in and out of love so many times in the last few years really made things wonky in Ayu-PV-land. Having one trilogy for Mannie and then one for Maro was such overkill.

Glad you said this for me, I was already thinking how to phrase it delicately but since the music video is about as delicate as throwing a bowling ball through a glass window, there's no need for us to be really.

Such a shame because I really like the song, I'm still ordering the CD-only version because I love both songs so far but this PV is the biggest piss take I've seen in years. It hás to be some kind of joke. I am still in a state of shock. Also in Japan there are very little fat / Caucasian people so they are completely insensitive to how obviously offensive this video is.

My only hope and light in this situation is that Ayu was too busy with her own things and just said "yeah whatever" when the set intern proposed this parody.

Or maybe you're just too sensitive? Lighten up... I'm not entirely sure what anyone even expected from this song's video. I would have probably rolled my eyes if she attempted glitter pt.2 again leading into a Merry-go-round fated.

marty 27th November 2013 04:53 PM

Ok, that was a nope as big as Alaska. JUST NO AYU.
It had a nice idea for the storyline and I totally see where they wanted to go with this (a-la Last Friday Night by Katy Perry), but the budget wasn't there, and everybody can see that. The animation parts were supercheap and awful to look at, and I didn't like at all the way it was shoot and directed.
The only nice parts were the funny and adorable attitude of the girl and Ayu last appearence (yes, me loves my ahegyo Ayu, thanks).
It was meant to be nice, and silly and fun (just like the song), and I appreciate that, but for me it was a horrible job. Pity.

End1ess_sorr0w 27th November 2013 04:55 PM

I liked it haha i thought it was silly. I don't think she was saying if you work out you can look like me. I have a feeling it was more of a "shallow hal" thing. Cuz it was from his POV when you see ayu. I actually think the girl was actually really playing ayu too cuz they have similar hair styles in the video too.

kaled kalil 27th November 2013 05:07 PM

I feel that the video is trying too hard to go viral, with a "funny" concept and a twist at the end.

I'm not the one to point the "fat goes thin" thing because it's just boring. If they showed the chubby girl again at the end, but with the guy, then all those things you guys are saying would make sense, but it was just her getting all thin and "the way that he wanted", nothing deeper than that.

untitled-for-her 27th November 2013 05:13 PM

All jokes aside in regards to the weird animations, the cheesiness, the white girl suddenly turning into ayu and etc... I thought this was a pretty cute PV. And it was obviously meant to be a silly video, and I think that's why ayu acted the way she did at the end.

SpiceSquad! 27th November 2013 05:18 PM

love the song with the video.. especially when DJ kitty doing aerobic thing

love in music 27th November 2013 05:21 PM

this PV is terrible. I'm shocked ayu would come out with such a horrible message like that. I was SURE that she would have walked away from the douchebag at the end afterwards. really disappointed she would do something as offensive as this.

ayu_fantasy 27th November 2013 05:32 PM

I love yoake's interpretation on the pv, it's really touching if the Hot guy( played by James Ellis) sees the inner beauty of the fat girl (represented by a pretty image of ayu).

Did you guys saw the part when he turned and looked at ayu? He seem to give the 'wow' expression. I guess they wanted to depict that he was clearly mesmerise by her beauty. Inner beauty of the fat girl.

I would prefer the moral to be

1) A hot guy sees an inner beauty of an women and fall in love with her

Rather than

2) women should try to look "slim and perfect" in order to make a hot guy notice you.

Coelacanth 27th November 2013 05:32 PM

Y'all have to understand that the "Health at Every Size" movement and other overly PC shit that makes fat people feel better about themselves doesn't exist in Japan.

That was an awful video, though.

If they HAD to have her turning into Ayu, this would have been the way to do it. I'm thin now and you're interested? Well, sorry, you don't deserve me, byee~

This :yes

I don't get the end of the video either. The girl has finally excepted her body shape and sees herself as beautiful and becomes confident? Anyway, the video is a no for me. :no

SKYia 27th November 2013 05:56 PM

Ok, so the meaning is "if you like someone run like hell and get a haircut and then Ayu will come and keep him for herself" :p

ayu_fantasy 27th November 2013 06:04 PM

Hope he can work with her again!! Haha...

He's way better than mannie IMO...

zoomzoom 27th November 2013 06:05 PM

It takes forever to get to the punchline, whatever that punchline means, but it just seems to be a video in style with the trend. :shrug There's a lot of these type of music videos around recently. They're fun to watch but that's about it.

It reminds me of the video for I Could Be The One by Avicii vs Nicky Romero. Feel the love also sounds like that song in the instrumental.

Midori-chan 27th November 2013 06:07 PM

That was...horrible! :( I hate the song and I also hate the MV. What kind of message is that, Ayu? Work out to get a guy to notice you? Get thin so that you can get a man that will look through you, if you don't look like a Barbie doll?

Is this really the same Ayu that wrote songs like "Real Me" and "My name's WOMEN"?! :shakehead

ILoveGeniuses 27th November 2013 06:12 PM

i found it kinda insulting really. Like he didnt even pay attention when he glances back n shes overweight but then is entranced by her once its skinny sexy ayu.

MyWayYay 27th November 2013 06:15 PM

She should just have paid that girl in the video a liposuction. What an awkward mess, she has hit the rock bottom with both her music and her videos...

kimmeh 27th November 2013 06:18 PM

I haven't really read the comments in this thread, so I apologize if im repeating something already said;

but IMO it looks like she's making fun of her weeaboo fans, listening to Ayumi and dreaming about their crush. Why use an american/western actor? I know this was filmed in the US, but I'm PRETTY sure there are some "chubby" asian girls she could have picked instead? The transition from "I feel bad about myself thus I look ugly" to "I have accepted my body and now people look at me differently" would have been waayyy smoother. Unless Ayu has decided she is no longer asian :p

The thing that fucked up for everyone is that this "inner beauty" turned out to be asian. I'm starting to wonder what ethnicity my inner beauty has.

koumori 27th November 2013 06:18 PM

Wow. Uh..no. Worst video and song of her career for me.

ayumisrael 27th November 2013 06:21 PM

Yes, ayu literally meant that you have to be thin and pretty in order to get a hot guy. Exactly.

pretty much true tho

Minttulatte 27th November 2013 06:32 PM

It's just a music video. Why does everyone has to get so serious about everything all the time here? Just enjoy the song or go make your own PV if this one sucks. :) Personally I just found it funny. That's all.

Sunrise 27th November 2013 06:34 PM

It's kinda tacky, ngl. But omfg at Ayu stealing that girls man at the end, I was hoping there would be a cut at the end where the girl runs up and punches Ayu out for trying to steal him.

truehappiness 27th November 2013 06:34 PM

Actually, you don't.

And the main character never seemed to feel bad about herself judging from her pretty unwavering confidence for the whole video. IMO, the video is as fun as the song. Bubbly and bright, not meant to be taken too seriously.

At the beginning, I was like.. Wait when did she get such a good photo of him with his friends?! Lol that there was a picture involved a la Mannie but not really.

marcoba 27th November 2013 06:39 PM

You all are WAY to sensitive and just over thinking to much...
Wasn't the girl in the animation even flying in a broom? XD , this is supposedly to be funny and silly like it is . And have to say that girl can run lol!!
Overall I really like the pv, and the final scene for me means that the girl finally finds her true self and then gets the guy. Like wasn't the whole video about that e.e. And Ayu acting like that was also because the girl was all silly all the time too...
Anyway, love also the little moves DJ Hello Kitty did there too ^o^

Andrenekoi 27th November 2013 06:39 PM

How dare this japanese singer use a japanese point of view and the japanese view of beauty for her japanese video aimed to the japanese marketing?

Gosh! So racist! :P

it's bullshit

Minttulatte 27th November 2013 06:51 PM

^OK, whatever you say, dude. :p

Surreal17 27th November 2013 06:57 PM

The song is really cute (listening to it plenty of times) and the video is just something different from ayu. that's all for me :)
