Please discuss Ayu's second pregnancy in this thread!

kaled kalil 2nd October 2020 05:00 PM

Now we know one of the reason for great vocals. I've seen some studies on how pregnancy "helps" the vocal chords because of the hormones and all.

AndyF 2nd October 2020 05:00 PM

So she's having a healthier life now and probably drinking less alcohol. Of course, some vocal classes as well. That's why her vocals are so amazing lately.

Chibi-Chan 2nd October 2020 05:03 PM

I have to say what I really enjoyed is that Timmy wasn't there. I like him as a person and I think he is sweet, so is her cousin. But I never liked her male backing vocalists. They are both great vocalists and both can easily outsing Ayu, but them as backing vocalists simply doesn't sound good and does not fit Ayu's voice nor her songs. I feel that one of the reasons she sounded so good was not having them as backing vocals, simply because she often tries to outscream them. This time she did not scream, I can't remember when was the last time she didn't scream. God, her vocals were so good, I really hope she keeps that up!

Also, SIGNAL was amazing! I always loved it and it's one of the few songs from A Song for xx I listen to regularly, because it has this "let's do an 80's disco song" feeling, but combined with this typical 90's sound. I always really liked that and they managed to get this "80's disco" sound to the forefront with the arrangement used. Also her more deeper voice sounded perfect with it. I want a new recording. <3

Deep snow 2nd October 2020 05:06 PM

I hope Timmy's OK. these days I worry that every absence would be coronavirus-related.

SIGNAL and WE WISH were so exciting, I was struggling with bopping my light stick and taking pictures haha.

I like this screenshot I took, didn't get many good ones but this is cute:

So glad everyone enjoyed it so much, I can't wait to see a digest or something to share the joy :)

The setlist is amazing + glad to hear that Ayu's vocals were top-notch + congrats to Ayu on her second pregnancy! :heart

holy_arrow 2nd October 2020 06:32 PM

I wonder this show was recorded and edited before being live stream or not. Everything is so perfect and there is also the long credit after MY ALL. It looks like I was watching the DVD/BD

Who's Ayu's cousin that's her vocalist?

kaled kalil 2nd October 2020 06:42 PM

@holy_arrow I thought about that too. I wonder if she felt more relaxed not having the audience. Some singers/artists do better when they are just rehearsing (this type of concert with no audience is basically like a dress rehearsal) and they don't feel the pressure of doing something wrong.

We’ve seen ayu rehearsing on insta and she was the same as usual.

I guess she sounds better because of the absence of noise. A crowd of thousand people screaming may affect her hearing, even with noise-cancelling earphones.

Absence of fan noise didn't save her from many disastrous TV lives.

She has a custom-made mix in her ear piece, it's not impossible that she doesn't even have their voices there.

Earth_maiden 2nd October 2020 07:22 PM

You know, I was feeling so alone and disconnected this week but this live and chatting with everyone on discord has made me feel really connected again. I'm watching Hwangs live stream now so I can talk to people more about this live haha. :luv2

Yeah I am bit worried too.

I hope I can watch the concert later these days, whould have loved to join live seeing the amazing setlist^^

Toniayu123 2nd October 2020 08:48 PM

I think that’s how she sounds on first day of tours, and people say she sounded awesome then we get the live stream or whatever of the next day and wonder what went wrong.
She seriously delivered vocals, THAT’s the Ayu I love. I’m so glad she came back to her deep and natural voice (though still a bit far from her peak at 08 imo). Please Ayu bless us recording something with that gorgeous voice you have now. Give us the album.
I hope she has learned that resting can improve her performance by 200%. In the future, I really hope instead of straining long af hall tours she chooses to do less concerts on bigger venues with resting in between.

mi|kshake 2nd October 2020 08:54 PM

Hope Timmy's OK!!

The concert sounds like it was amazing! Sorry if this has been asked before but how do you buy a ticket?

Raiu-Ayu 2nd October 2020 10:04 PM

This show was amazing! She sounded so good! And Bye-bye darling and It was live :luv2

It was definitely pre-recorded. I thought it was live up until SIGNAL. The transition made it pretty obvious.

Katsuyuki012 2nd October 2020 10:16 PM

^Yea, that transition didn't look like it could be done during a live show.

I was suspicious... so there's maybe a chance her vocals were retouched

pedronekoi 2nd October 2020 10:56 PM

She looks STUNNING!! And sounds just like an angel. <3

Despite 2020 being a SHIT YEAR, we - as TeamAyu - can say that this was an amazing year to be her fan! We had 4 amazing concerts, 2 great singles, 1 well produced PV, the GREATEST vocals in years, BEAUTY and FACE. I mean... I'm forever a stan!!!!

PS: For a minute I thought "Bye-bye darling" was a new song. Completely erased this song from my mind lol

People keep saying this, but her schedule isn't even comparable with other artists like Sergey Lazarev who has concerts like every day and manages to keep his voice because of the proper vocal technique, Ayu has enough days off between her shows and doesn't even perform the whole show live, but any show can damage her voice when she strains it by screaming and so on.

Katsuyuki012 3rd October 2020 03:41 AM

AndyF 3rd October 2020 03:59 AM

^She's been on tour since 2000 and her promo schedule between 1999-2010 was insane lol of course it has damaged her voice and the lack of technique doesn't help her either. But resting your voice helps to prevent more damages, that's why singers like Mariah Carey took years to start touring even with her perfect technique in the 90s.

I'm actually surprised that the show may have been pre-recorded; I thought it was live!

while that may open up the possibilities of her vocals being retouched, I don't think that is the case, judging from the clip above. her vocal is great, as many have testified here, but does not seem to be edited/retouched. to my untrained, amateur ears, at least.

TheRainbow 3rd October 2020 06:17 AM

Wow, JEWEL was better than I ever expected. Easily the best I’ve heard.

EndOfTheWorld 3rd October 2020 06:22 AM

I haven't watched the whole show yet but I did watch the preview clip she put up on Youtube. I can not believe that performance of JEWEL. It was incredible. Her vocals sound so relaxed and the tone sounds healthier than quite a while.
I don't really get excited for her lives anymore but this one seems promising.:yes

SunshineSlayer 3rd October 2020 06:31 AM

This was FANTASTIC! I have a few more songs left to see, but wow. Her voice was great. All these shows for the last year have been pretty good in that area - having kids has done her vocals good. :) The rest doesn't hurt either I'm sure, but her being pregnant is I'm sure playing a large part.

A quote from Pat Benatar from her autobiography who recorded some of her albums while pregnant: " Pregnancy makes all the long muscles in your body relax, and your vocal cords are a long muscle. Suddenly I found that I could do things vocally that I’d never been able to do before. And once I did, I was able to re-create that sound even without the pregnancy hormones. I’ve never had an easier time singing than when I was pregnant."

Her vocals have been sounding like this since last years FNS performance, which is when she was pregnant with her first baby. So no, I don't think this performance was all that retouched. She even misses a line in Powder Snow. Since there was no audience, they could have easily added it back in if they were doing extensive retouching.

I've also noticed in the last few shows that the level of the dancers and the choreography is significantly better than before.

And this setlist? Crazy!

Just a great show.

Well, to be fair, she sang the wrong lyrics in a couple of parts of Missing in this year's cdl and they didn't bother fixing them for the DVD.

KittyKathy 3rd October 2020 09:46 AM

The concert was great. I really liked how she sounded in JEWEL.

Right because that one you can’t hide given it was in front of an audience. My point was here there was no live audience, so if this was pre-taped, they could have done whatever they wanted with any mistake and no one would have known. So the fact that they left in her missing singing a line, says to me it wasn’t that doctored.

SKYia 3rd October 2020 11:59 AM

IT WAS

YASSS

Raiu-Ayu 3rd October 2020 01:18 PM

The concert was definitely pre-recorded but I don't necessarily think they did anything crazy to her vocals. You can hear she's singing in a different way and is exercising more control rather than just shouting the loud bits and screeching the high notes. She also fixes her ear piece a lot more often I've noticed in the last few lives. Maybe they've gotten a new one that can help her hear herself more through her hearing issues. That would definitely help her pitching.

Mikytaryan 3rd October 2020 01:34 PM

I wonder why they preferred to pre-record it. They broadcasted concerts live when she was tired, vocals not that great and of course live audience but in a more controlled setup they prefer to pre-record everything.

I don't mind, cause you still get the live feeling since I agree that her voice doesn't seem to be tempered with, it's just interesting how times are changing and the online era will start to dominate with perfectly arranged concerts and visuals.
I also thought that the editing during SIGNAL is actually possible during a live broadcast, but maybe it wasn't the case here.

Anyway, it was really an amazing show full of emotions :) Glad I bought the ticket.

Evan Odinson 3rd October 2020 02:38 PM

Don't mind me I'm just crying over the fact she finally sang It Was (on a broadcast I mean) one of my favorite songs and she did great!!! Loving this concert :luv2

kotora 3rd October 2020 03:49 PM

Her voice is good in this tour and the previous tour without massive audience.

Would she get excited when she sees lots of audience interaction and affect her voice in the tour?

lol "taikin' 2 myself"

pedronekoi 3rd October 2020 06:47 PM

Can we expect this to be her last concert for at least 1 year? Or do you guys think she will do CDL?

truehappiness 3rd October 2020 06:55 PM

I think she will considering what she did last year. I saw some articles thinking she is about 4-5 months pregnant atm.

kendelle 4th October 2020 09:45 AM

If we have a CDL this year I imagine it'll be online. Maybe a chance to prerecord over 1-2 days to allow sufficient breaks? She'll be ready to pop come year end lol

Thinking about Timmy, I didn't know he had disappeared til the night of since I don't really check anyone's social media much the last few months. I do remember that he was doing an IG Q&A a while back and commented that the mastering of some concerts wasn't that great? He's entitled to say it since it's his creative work as well but is it a possibility that it caused a problem?

Ayu is strong-willed but I don't think she would just yeet her bff of the last 9 years because he has an opinion on the work people are paid to do for her (which is to make her look and sound the best possible way).

I'm hoping that maybe he had a chance to repatriate to the UK and took off to see his family or something and deactivated to avoid speculation. If it's an innocent reason I hope he's safe and well.

Anyway the concert is still a buzz in my mind, it was an amazing setlist but funny that it was the "last Trouble" with no tracks from TROUBLE included....

100% the same!! I heard the term "Corona Blues" the other day watching one of BM's Tabata Workout videos (and not participating :roflmao ) but I realised that it's all kind of caught up with me. Aside from a once-weekly work chat for 30 mins the only other people I see are my husband and my cat. And of them, only one is a person (debatable if you ask the cat though lol).

Having new content to watch and spazz about in real time was really fun!

Thinking that too, alltough I have a little fear it might have something to do with Covid /=

hidekirby 4th October 2020 09:34 PM

I'm currently watching the rip.
She is really delivering.
She is glowing, looking and sounding fantastic. Once more.
What a year...

They indeed lowered the key of some back vocal tracks. You can hear it with the first lines of WHATEVER.

The first part of Many Classic Moments almost sounds like the cd rip.
Even the usually shouty Love Song is good. Must be her best performance of that song.
I really REALLY hope she can continue to be that good in the future. It's such a wonder.
I don't know if it was prerecorded or not but to be honest I don't really care. Her voice is 100% not edited and that's all I'm asking for. I'm relieved she can still sound that good after all those years of inconsistent and embarrassing vocals.

I'm also very happy to see Princess back.

indigochild 5th October 2020 01:38 AM

Just finished watching the concert and wow. Whoever her vocal coach has been for the past year deserves all the yen to make Ayu sound amazing in a LONG ASS TIME. Like, I'm genuinely impressed (and shocked) by how great she sounded in this concert.

JinHamasaki 5th October 2020 09:15 PM

I got up to It was and wow wow wow! Her vocals = PERFECT. She seems much more comfortable delivering this time around vs. a-nation online.

Well... Actually if you see the TV version of CDL 04-05, you will see that Ayu arrives late to the stage and missed the first line for WHATEVER, in the DVD version they fixed all this part with the previous date material... so I think they can fix everything if they wanted to do it.

And to be honest, an Ayu concert with Ayu no missing any lines, is not an Ayu concert xD

I honestly think it is likely more due to the pregnancies. I fully expect Ayu to stay pregnant for as long as she is able to now, lol.
