alternarist 23rd March 2006 11:33 AM

wow... 46,000,000 millions CDs sold is real good! her income for 2001 was !!!! and i think i made a mistake about Bold & Delicious selling more than a million in a post in this forum lol.

hallelujah_united 23rd March 2006 11:38 AM

Yeah, look at that income indeed. 0_0

But I noticed it's been halving every year, so it looks slightly worrying too. Not that she doesn't have enough money for the rest of her life already though.

ayu_fan929 23rd March 2006 10:05 PM

^yeah. i think a lot of the money lost was probably the CMs. i dont think shes doing as much as before rite?

Reviving this thread...

Haven't "A BALLADS" sold a million copies yet? Anybody have update on that album?

norain 22nd June 2006 11:55 PM

Well, I think every album sells more, it's sorta like how missunderstood shipped over one million, but only sold 870,000. So, she's had two failed million oricon charts...but eventually all her albums pass one million, but not counted on oricon. Right?/

truehappiness 22nd June 2006 11:59 PM

[off topic ish]
Why is it that American artists are able to sell like.. 3 million+++ of an album so easily? :/

I just.. don't know why xD

And good job for Ayu!~ I hope she hits the 50 million mark by her 10th anniversary!

Uhhh, because America has twice the population of Japan. Also the albums are readily available worldwide.

What SunshineSlayer said. But what the US doesn't have I believe are crazy 1st week sales like Japan does. I think the highest in the US was like 2.5 million by NSYNC, and in Japan it's Hikki with like 3 million (even A BEST beat the US record)

Yeah, that is true. US albums tend to stay on the charts much longer and grow slowly. I think that is because in the US the singles are released after the album and in Japan they are released before.

Deep snow 23rd June 2006 02:37 AM

i hope her income gets better!

thanks for the news!

emi♡ 23rd June 2006 04:43 AM

do they even release singles in the U.S? I've never heard of buying a single for American artists, unless they're new.

I do remember there being promotions for the song One Track Mind. Yeah...first sales are not really important. I think that there are so many singers, and they have really large fanbases.

I've seen CD-singles at Western music shops but I don't think their hyped about. I think it's just the song/MV itself, and not the actual CD.

Yes there are. But they don't sell really well - because the albums are out, they just buy the albums instead of the singles. The point is, is that the PVs for the best songs on the albums, the radio play, the promotion etc etc. Only happens after the album has been released and directly before the release. In the US it is much more geared towards the sale of albums, in Japan it is geared towards the sale of the singles.

I have just noticed thsi thread, interesting but I wonder why the single "Fly High" did not sell well.

darkswordz 24th June 2006 04:09 PM

^it's limited to 300,000 copies only :P

elepop 24th June 2006 05:11 PM

spacelion: Thanks for sharing that! I'll add to the list.

truehappiness: I think American artist can sale a lot because they are known worldwide. Britney's first album sold like... 21 millions copies worldwide and that's because she was also popular all over the world. She had as much fans in the US than in the UK, Australia or Japan.

norain 24th June 2006 05:16 PM

American artists about singles, is more like...since the whole album is most of the time isn't worth listening too...what they call "filler" so that's why album sales are like that. Originally, in the past, singles used to precede albums. And nowadays, many people are debating over whether to go back to it or not. But the final verdict, is that a lot of them are scared. They are saying that they should go back to singles because people just buy the 1-2 songs off the album they like with iTunes if they want to be legal, and then other 10 songs just go waste.

Yeah...

And ayumi alone sold in asia, so I think that's good

immel 13th July 2006 01:00 AM

As neither Fly high nor kanariya can be gotten in retail stores any longer I suspect they both finally reached their total possible sales of 300,000? Or at least very close to it, only a few forgotten stores having a copy left of it.

I belive that guess is pretty good, I'd be happy if someone could give their point of view.

Well Oricon did put 'Fly high' at like 299,500 or something right? So that's already pretty close even if it did sell more once it left the top 200

immel 13th July 2006 02:30 AM

^It is, but I'm thinking more of kanariya, as it's just as gone as Fly high is, even if there, according to the numbers here, are 11,000 copies left.

ayu_fan929 13th July 2006 03:37 AM

^Maybe the like some of the 11k got shipped outside Japan...

immel 13th July 2006 03:47 AM

Maybe, but what makes that unlikely is that, in that case, Fly high wasn't :/

darkswordz 13th July 2006 04:48 PM

^why did u say that?

immel 13th July 2006 05:28 PM

I said it because of all the previous posts.

Clarification of what I wrote (it was a bit unclear - I admit):
Maybe, but what makes that unlikely is that, in that case, Fly high did not have 11,000 copies that was 'lost' overseas while kanariya had.

Explanation:
In case there was 11,000 copies that ended up overseas for kanariya and is not being counted by ORICON it makes me wonder why Fly high did not end up with 11,000 copies overseas as they were two consecutive releases, both limited to 300,000 copies.

This discussion came to this point because I still belive that both kanariya and Fly high have sold out their 300,000 copies or at least very close to that number - as they are impossible to find, new, in store. I can't see why 11,000 copies of kanariya would just disappear, unsold.

I would like to know the amounts she sold overseas, coz what I read from the other pages, the numbers mentioned was from japan/asian markets

immel 1st August 2006 10:01 PM

There's no official numbers on her overseas sales, not anywhere. avex does most likely have them, but they stay quiet about everything else than shipped copies.

They don't release information on how many copies they ship on the overseas editions either, because it's not avex who issue them. If the overseas issuers have homepages it's possible you could check if they have press releases on their homepage, you might be able to find the amount of shipped copies there, but probably no sales numbers.

First is Yumi Matsutoya (I think she had over 20 consecutive number 1 albums), second Ayu and third Utada Hikaru.

darkswordz 2nd August 2006 02:09 PM

what is this chart about?

ayu_fan929 2nd August 2006 02:48 PM

^
1st Chart = Number of #1 Albums
2nd Chart = Total Album Sales (Females)
3rd Chart = Number of Million Selling Albums (Females) *I think they count in BEST albums*
4th Chart = Number of years with a TOP 10 album
5th Chart = Number of TOP 10 albums (Females)

darkswordz 3rd August 2006 02:48 PM

^thanks for the translation ;)
but do they mean by Number of years with a TOP 10 album?

Well yes avex would know the Overseas sales as the overseas are sold by Avex Asia

darkswordz 3rd August 2006 02:59 PM

but not all are distributed by Avex Asia

Exactly.

ayu_fan929 3rd August 2006 04:23 PM

Avex HK/Asia/Taiwan/China probably account for maybe 90-95% of the overseas sales? The rest would be SM (Korea), and other markets like Indonesia (since they have Indonesian Versions). So avex probably does have a good idea of how many copies are sold. Plus, I think companies like SM might report numbers to avex so that they know how well the singles/albums are doing.

i.e.: Let's take Matsutoya Yuming for example. Oricon wrote 31 years beside it. That means from 1975-2006 (31 years) she had at least 1 top 10 album to chart each year for 31 years. (And yes, I know that Yuming might not have had a top 10 album between those years, but it's just an example)

Ayu_Fan_00 3rd August 2006 05:51 PM

wow. You go Ayu. This is amazing.

Yeah remember when I bought 2 bootleg Ayu albums?

Yeah well I just bought 2 real Ayu albums. Well actually I bought 1. I`m gonna buy the other one later on today. So I`m supporting Ayu.

Freakin` Alion. grrrr!

Yukitora 3rd August 2006 05:55 PM

^Thats awesome :D

Yeah, Matsutoya Yuming is amazing. She topped all of those charts O_O

And Max Matsuura said in a few years maybe Ayu can become the next Yuming ^_^

darkswordz 4th August 2006 04:26 PM

thanks ayu_fan929 :D
i'm confident that ayu will last for at least 10 years from now, and become the next Yuming!!!!!!!!!!!

elepop 4th August 2006 06:39 PM

Little question: Anybody knows how many #1 consecutive singles Ayu would have if "Daybreak" (I think "Daybreak" got #2...) got #1?

darkswordz 4th August 2006 06:42 PM

15(current) + 6(from I am...) + 1(Daybreak) =22
how i wish i have enough money to buy ALL remaining copies of Daybreak to bring it to the first position XD

elepop 4th August 2006 06:48 PM

^^ Thanks! Wow, 22 #1 singles... that would have been awesome!

truehappiness 4th August 2006 06:53 PM

22 #1s..

So many! Let alone consecutive! :3

Ayu_Fan_00 5th August 2006 01:16 AM

A lot of my money goes towards Ayu merchandise. Ayu is the shiznit fo sho

lol

darkswordz 5th August 2006 08:21 AM

if Daybreak and AUDIENCE managed to get the no. 1 spot, she would have 25 #1 =X

immel 5th August 2006 10:40 AM

There's like 100k copies of daybreak left in stores, if wikipedias numbers are trustable, so buying all would mean it'd make it to #1, if only for a day. That'd boost her #1 streak quite heavily :3

slowmoth 24th September 2006 08:24 PM

if ayu sells 46,000,000 plus the legal download of songs, vinyls and overseas versions (somewhere I read MY STORY sells more than 1 million) I think she surpass the 50 million records so she might be in the Artists claimed to have sold 50 million records or more article in wikipedia that she was before :yes

:) why she got out of this?

immel 24th September 2006 08:27 PM

^I don't think she reached 50mil in total sales yet. Another reson is that anyone can edit the page, and if someone who think he is pro at this stuff doesn't recognize Ayus name he will remove it. If someone guesses she has sold over 50mil he or she will add her, then someone else will guess that she haven't and remove her.

etc.

Thulanks 24th September 2006 08:30 PM

Yeh, I guess so

elepop 7th November 2006 03:20 AM

Anybody has all her DVDs sales?

jasjasss 10th November 2006 11:36 AM

is that income one
in US$ ?
wow if it is so she earns so much in 2001 o_O

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 10th November 2006 02:04 PM

Is the income shown only from record sales?

truehappiness 11th November 2006 01:02 AM

I only had a few of her DVD sales:
COMPLETE LIVE BOX A's last recorded sales: 72,826
A CLIPS 2 sales: 89,531
COMPLETE CLIP BOX's sales: 64,323
A MUSEUM's last sales: 100,017
AT03-04's last recorded sales: 69,829 <--stopped being counted.. probably sold more
CDL04-05's last recorded sales: 65,546
AT05's last recorded sales: 86,887
CDL05-06's last recorded sales: 57,405

Wow. If you multiplied the LIVE BOX's sales..
218,478 DVDs.. O_O

However since all were released at once, AT02 and ST02 had really low sales! O_O
ARENA TOUR 2002 A - 6,583
STADIUNM TOUR 2002 A - 14,306

elepop 11th November 2006 01:13 AM

Thanks Anthony!

And for those who are wondering about the sales being US dollars... Well, I don't know... LOL.

ayumi hamasaki DOME TOUR 2001 A (by Nov 2002): 132,554

immel 12th November 2006 04:25 PM

What is the source for the DOME TOUR number?

I never saw that number around before, I think, is it on oricon?

ayu_fan929 12th November 2006 04:31 PM

I got it from the bbs, and I think they got it from Oricon. Anyways, here's the link to the Dome Tour number:

http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/bbs/read.cgi.../1057507128/74

immel 12th November 2006 04:47 PM

Thank you, I just wanted to know if I could be a hundred percent sure that it is correct, or if I should reserve myself for the possibility that it might not be.

While I think it's likely, considering the huge achievement that tour was, it's still a lot of DVDs compared to her other DVD sales.

Raleigh 16th November 2006 08:05 AM

Wow glad this thread is still being updated. It's extremely useful as reference. Hope the dvd sales will be added up soon.

DAMN. Thanks for the info! I'm amazed at how much the albums from LOVEppears to RAINBOW each sold in their first weeks. That... definitely will never happen again, sadly.

Endlessoul 3rd December 2006 07:50 AM

Oops! I just figured out that I lost MY STORY part...:( *keeps searching*

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 3rd December 2006 07:56 AM

ayu1m 3rd December 2006 11:41 AM

I didn't know LOVEppears sold that much on it's first week.. Nice :P

Thx for this

alternarist 3rd December 2006 12:10 PM

wow.. its evident that ayu's album's sales are declining.. NO!!!!!!!!!!!! Secret better beat (m) u in its sales. in fact i think it will... :D:D where's MY STORY?

immel 3rd December 2006 01:05 PM

Didn't we have a thread like this recently?

Nice to see it all again though. I wonder how much of it is reliable.

ayu_fan929 3rd December 2006 02:17 PM

There was a thread that was posted that included everything after (and including) A BEST. It's nice to see the numbers for ASFXX, LOVEppears and Duty.

immel 3rd December 2006 02:42 PM

Imagine how it'd look if we had 2nd week drops nowadays like LOVEppears had back then.

1,2kk -> 240k.

The same goes for Duty.

criminal 3rd December 2006 02:53 PM

I've never seen information like this for her earlier albums, thanks a lot! :)

freedreamer 3rd December 2006 03:20 PM

I already made a thread with all of Ayu's CD sales. But yours have the weekly sales too. That's quite interesting! Thanks!
