ORICON has already said that her first day sales were like, enough to make her the top of the weekly ~ :o

bluegie 30th November 2006 11:21 AM

it's still no. 1 today :D

(OT: hitoiro is still no. 4 today..)

:roflmao That's like the funniest thing they have said ever.

truehappiness 30th November 2006 12:03 PM

That's what happened with BLUE BIRD though too :\

After the first day or so, they already announced that she got weekly no.1..

bluegie 30th November 2006 12:13 PM

yeah, oricon does that to lots of artists

01. ayu - BB
02. kuu - BEST~ss~
03. hikki - UB
04. KAT-TUN - real face
etc..

so it's expected to see Secret having that kind of announcement :).

immel 30th November 2006 12:37 PM

If the sales are high enough it's quite easy to confirm that it will be the weekly number one, it probably sold an insane amount more than any of the other releases.

Mad_Cactuar 30th November 2006 12:41 PM

Yeah, but to let everyone know about it is quite amusing. :laugh

I remember the BLUE BIRD one, it was cool getting reassurance after how Startin' debuted.

truehappiness 30th November 2006 12:57 PM

Well, they always let people know about it. This is Oricon we are talking about here.

The people who have to have polls on "Best Wearer of Hats" among others..

m2yu 30th November 2006 01:04 PM

lol.. haha ya thats rite! hehe, congrats to ayu... another oricon no.1
still no1 today, lets hope it will be there for longer ^^ heeeeheeeee..... ~^^~
tq for da news...!

Mad_Cactuar 30th November 2006 11:33 PM

Quite cruel though. Hitoto You's hopes must have been dashed severely when they announced Ayu's first day is gonna own her album's first week.

...maybe not. I doubt anyone is stupid enough to release on the same day with Ayu and expect to get #1, unless you're in a boyband.

Seriously, I wonder how she will sale! =O

Hopefully, more than 500,000 copies!

AyuMayu 1st December 2006 03:50 AM

Yall people who be complaining about Mika, don't be hatin on Yuna Ito. Her song be good so stop hatin.

LOL, well Mika's single isn't really a flop considering that she'll release an album soon after the album, which probably affected the sale of Hitoiro. If the release of THE END wasn't announced until after Hitoiro hits the market, then she'd most likely end up in the top 3.

[12/4] ORICON "Secret" 1st Week Sales [See P.7 post 130]

i wanna die,,it seems to be true

micster 4th December 2006 03:07 PM

38.6million?!

No wai that MUST be wrong ...

emi♡ 4th December 2006 03:08 PM

um....I guess we'll see...

criminal 4th December 2006 03:08 PM

Do you mean that the first week sales for Secret are supposed to be 386k? o_o If so, then that's a bit lower than I had hoped/expected. Although we'll all have to wait for confirmation from Oricon.

Oh wait! Do you seriously believe the first week sales are 38.6 MILLION?! Sorry, but less than 30 albums ever released have sold that much and they've done that in the span of decades, not in a week. :)

I don't know what that says but It can't be 38.6mills :laugh that's just.. well impossible.

And there's a dot so how could it be 386k :E?

weird

iphis 4th December 2006 03:14 PM

i was just so sad that i missed the "week" word in the title

sorry

i dont know it's true or just rumor

i really hope it is not true

Amuro_Ray 4th December 2006 03:20 PM

I am very down...
how come it is just 386K?
It is much lower than my expectation.

If it is true, Secret may not hit 700K in total ~>.<~

micster 4th December 2006 03:21 PM

Ive done the clever thing and translated the first line

Quote:

Album 'Secret' sells 386,000 pieces,

andre2907 4th December 2006 03:27 PM

That's exactly what I was expecting... c'mon guys, there was people expecting 1 million. It was obvious it wouldn't be over 500k because (m)u probably didn't sold that much on it's first week and (m)u had a photo album for first press, much more succeful singles...

Keishi 4th December 2006 03:28 PM

Well, at least we should thankful that people are still buying this album. Lower than our expectation or not.

ruixiong89 4th December 2006 03:28 PM

^ Yup, that's the correct translation.

If you're talking about million, it should be hyaku man, i.e. hundred ten thousands.

emi♡ 4th December 2006 03:29 PM

I think everyone will agree that Secret is much different from (m)u in many different ways. Those things that you mention hardly have anything to do with it. The album is generally better, people had higher expectations.

andre2907 4th December 2006 03:29 PM

And btw, that's a reliable source. It's the site for ZoomIn, a news show on NTV. They wouldn't post fake info on their website.

Amuro_Ray 4th December 2006 03:32 PM

However, the news is disappeared.......
Is it reliable information?

CHAS_AYU 4th December 2006 03:33 PM

is that true?
We better trust the oricon ranking

And the url is linked to a page which doesn't mention the sale.

ruixiong89 4th December 2006 03:33 PM

Personally, I think people are supporting Ayu in other ways. For example, they go to her tours faithfully, and obtain her album through uta-chaku and iTunes. It's probably a general trend that is happening in Japan now. In all, I think the sales would be extremely good, but people might not support as much in terms of purchasing tangible media product goods.

Personally, I'm a bit disappointed by the sales, it certainly deserves much higher sales! But yup, I think it's very good by compared across the entire industry. Remember, low on Ayu standards doesn't mean it's low across the board.

netsuAi 4th December 2006 03:33 PM

386 x 10000 -> 386,000
doesn't seem very high :(

iphis 4th December 2006 03:35 PM

but i just cant believe that....

Secret is such a great album..all the great songs ( except born to be...)

i am still waiting for the Oricon's result

i really believe she could reach 500k~600k for the 1st week

yeah,,i just tried for the link...it failed...maybe someone removed it???

OMG...it's not true, is it??

LNany 4th December 2006 03:37 PM

I don't know if the site is reliable, but anyways i was also expecting 1st week sales around 400k units.

And don't forget that last year we got combined sales for two weeks!!

emi♡ 4th December 2006 03:37 PM

386,000 x $40.00 = $15,440,000

high enough for me...of course, that's a rough estimate.

kiseki89 4th December 2006 03:37 PM

You sure is million? not 386,000? 万=thousand
Well if it's 386,000....well it's first week - please do better

Amuro_Ray 4th December 2006 03:38 PM

If it is ture, total sales of Secret may not hit 700k in final.
Then, I prefer Ayu gets marry at once as I don't want to see the sales of her next album. (maybe less than 500k).

elepop 4th December 2006 03:39 PM

Well, 386,000 copies isn't a lot... I was expecting at least 400,000 or 500,000 copies for the first week. But since the news has been taken of the site, I don't know if we can still trust this news. And the week isn't over yet. We'll see this tomorrow. But yeah, 386k would be a little dissappointing. =/

chocopockymaster 4th December 2006 03:41 PM

Think of the bright side, it's already certified platinum...:) I love the album, and I supported her...that's what counts, in my mind. It is sad to see her lower sales, but she's still on top. :D

ruixiong89 4th December 2006 03:42 PM

plz make it not true...ORICON plz..

1st weekly + cdjapan sales...should be higer bah...haiz

*Petit* 4th December 2006 03:45 PM

Ummm.. Remember that people won't know that this album is better untill they bought it somehow or downloaded it. I wasen't really surprised by these sales, considering (m) u sold aout the same in the first week. This album may very well still sell a miliion, but with ayu's regular sales pattern it seems unlikely.

elepop 4th December 2006 03:46 PM

If it's true, I hope her sales will be consistant.

ayuqq 4th December 2006 03:49 PM

if that's true i'm gonna cry

immel 4th December 2006 03:50 PM

Seems likely, thanks for the numbers. Yeah, it also hit midnight in Japan recently, so it turned Tuesday which is the day when the numbers is supposed to be revealed.

Only a little lower than (miss)understood's first week sales.

Seems it'll make it to 800k.

freedreamer 4th December 2006 03:51 PM

im hoping the 2 weeks sales at least 700k i just hope its almost the same....this is a nightmare...srry overreaciting a bit...coz im sad...i noe her sales aint well now..but so low..

Amuro_Ray 4th December 2006 03:52 PM

I am crying now......
I bought 3 copies while i travelled Japan last week.
how come the sales is still low...?
no one support Ayu in Japan?

ayu1m 4th December 2006 03:54 PM

So..

Is the site reliable and is this true or not?

If it's true, that really is sad in some way. : (

My Rainbow 4th December 2006 03:55 PM

I don't think she only has sold 386,000 but if it's true I wish the album will be consistent. Please God! That's UNFAIR!

kinix 4th December 2006 03:56 PM

does sales really means so much to you guys?
did u all listen to ayu bcos she's famous and all?
pls don't insult ayu's music, bcos of low sales she shd retire.

elepop 4th December 2006 03:57 PM

^ Her sales aren't that important to me. But I guess it's important for her career.

Actually, it's higher than "(m)u" first week sales. "(m)u" sold 376,248 copies in the first week. If this news is true, "Secret" sold 386,000 copies. So, it's selling better. As long as it sales better than "(m)u", I'll be happy.

immel 4th December 2006 03:57 PM

^It's impossible for us to know (m)u's first week sales, I believe any numbers dug up is just estimations.

I don't see why people seem to be ripping their hair and crying. It's good sales.

Great sales in fact, considering how much her sales has declined from album to album recently, if the decline had continued it would have been even lower.

criminal 4th December 2006 03:58 PM

I just hope Koda Kumi doesn't sell over 500k in her first week. :(

Surreal 4th December 2006 03:59 PM

omfg. sigh.

freedreamer 4th December 2006 04:03 PM

Quote:

i dont listen to AYu coz she is famous...coz she is gd! her music and her is gd...despite low sales, if she enjoy singing i think she should pursue it..not quit coz of other competition and low sales...

ohsixthirty 4th December 2006 04:03 PM

38.6 million...hahahaha! i wish.

oh well, 386,000 is ok if its true. i did hope for a little bit more too, but whatever.

elepop 4th December 2006 04:04 PM

Yes, the sales of 600k+ of "(m)u" is for the first 2 weeks.

Translating the text on that page it says that the sales are "presumptions", which is the same as the act of assuming, if that is the case it is a guess based on assumptions on the first week sales of (m)u.

//hikari 4th December 2006 04:16 PM

L O L at everyone who is 'crying' because of it.

Sales are important. Maybe not to you all, but for the artist they are. Even if it was your favorite artist a record company isn't going to keep them around with weak sales. They need to make money.

boohoo.

ayu1m 4th December 2006 04:17 PM

So there's nothing to worry.. yet at least.

Great (:

elepop 4th December 2006 04:23 PM

freedreamer 4th December 2006 04:26 PM

i guess this is the first time im seeing the first week actual sales (sry) so im shocked and disappointed...i hope the sales go up a bit more for the second week...and beat (m)u's 654k and continue progressing like MY STORY's sales did...MS's two weak sales aint as gd as (m)u's but still managed to get 1 mill...

ganbatte Secret! (i have the urge now to go to japan to get some copies for my friend lol)

Depends on what you make it in your head.

If you want you can cry because it's bad.

If you want you can be happy because it's good.

If you want you can also do like me and not care less about if it's good or bad, it's a number and Ayumi will keep on singing and making music.

yep, that is true. sales are very important...afterall, a record company isn't going to release albums that no one is buying, just look at what happened to her remix albums afterall.

The two persons who ever had that high sales was Utada and Ayumi, if both of them has dropped this low and the rest of the market is as low as them, we have yet to see how Black Cherry does, it seems that no, no one can.

The only possibility would be if there appears another new artist who has a even huger breakthrough than Ayumi or Utada had back then, but it's hard because CDs is a aged media to release music on. People are much less interested in buying CDs. Back then CDs was the thing to have, it isn't anymore.

greggerz189 4th December 2006 04:56 PM

386k sounds about right.

immel 4th December 2006 05:02 PM

My predicted sales, based on how BLUE BIRD's weekly drops looked:

2nd week: 116k
3: 46k
4: 23k
5: 13k
6: 9k

Final: not too much above 600k

I'm hoping for somewhere near 800k, but that'd need a way higher 2nd week.

realize_! 4th December 2006 05:06 PM

depressing sales but it was expected. Oh well :shrug

firefox 4th December 2006 05:06 PM

i highly doubt this is true... ayumi has greater sales power than that!@

freedreamer 4th December 2006 05:07 PM

i wonder if Ayu is gonna be kidna disappointed herself...

i tot usually the first two weeks add to about 600k+ so i think its like this

3: 120k
4: 60k
5: 29k
6: 14k

total: 823k (bleh...1 mill plz)

Quote:

i highly doubt this is true... ayumi has greater sales power than that!@

immel 4th December 2006 05:09 PM

It might reach 500k with the second week sales, if now those numbers are true.

KyahRyorin 4th December 2006 05:13 PM

It's a shame, really, I was hoping for better sales, but you have to think... Martin has a huge point here.

I don't know how many of you attend college, but almost EVERY kid at my college here has an iPod. They don't buy CDs anymore, they just purchase the CD from the iTunes store and listen to it from there. Martin is right, people have just stopped wanting to buy CDs now that mp3 players are out. CDs over time wear out, and then you either have to consistenly clean them or throw them out and buy a new CD, which will just repeat the process. mp3s, since they are saved on a hardrive and are very little in memory, can be saved and have high quality for a LONG time. Which is the better deal here? I think all of you know.

Now I'm not saying that we should all stop buying Ayu's CDs and just buy her album from online for our mp3 players, but you sometimes have to think beyond what media is being promoted. XD If that made any sense.

Oh, and please don't flame me for my statement. I support Ayu 1500% with her love of music and her spirit, and I've already bought 3 albums and a single from her. So there. :P

freedreamer 4th December 2006 05:14 PM

something like that...

mannn..and it says 400k sales i think this is the rounded up figure...

Amuro_Ray 4th December 2006 05:17 PM

I like ayu very much.
I don't want her retired.
However, I just afaid Avex will put more resource on Koda and give ayu up because her sales is dropping.

Lumix 4th December 2006 05:18 PM

You guys can't compare Secret's sales with the previous albums. C'mon, there is internet, Japanese people start to prefer iTunes!

freedreamer 4th December 2006 05:18 PM

the hitoyo yo's (sry if i spelled wrong)...seems to have passed the 500k mark apparently and the news is from 2nd Dec...im so confused now

Akutenshi 4th December 2006 05:19 PM

Okay, I don't post on this site too often, but I felt like i had to today after reading this thread.

Some of you fans are way too spoiled and need to seriously calm down. Crying and overreacting about these sales is ignorant. Sure, she may not sell like she used to, but come on, nobody does. Accept the fact that after 8 years, she can STILL sell. If she's still around, she's popular, stop taking things for granted.

Sales are important, yes, but she's selling well. And stop accusing people of not supporting her. 386,000 people did. That's quite a lot.

Lumix 4th December 2006 05:22 PM

Her name is Hitoto Yo. I wouldn't be very suprised, she's quite strong + it's her first best of - that just must be selling very well.

It might very well be for shipped copies and not actual sold copies. But if she sold 500k this week that would mean that Ayumi sold higher than her, as she is number one.

I doubt that, though.

I agree with your first statement. She can still sell, even after 8 years, which is longer than the Backstreet Boys. XD It's very good that she can still sell and have loyal fans. ^^

Um, may I just ask who accused who of not supporting her? From what I read, there was no "OMGYOUREAHORRIBLEPERSONCUZYOUHATEAYUANDDONTSUPPOR THER!!!!!!!!!1!!!3!!!" so I fail to see where the accusing started. :shrug That could just be me though.

Nobody actually said it like that, but somebody posted a statement like "why is there no support for Ayu in Japan anymore?" and that is what I was referring to.

Was those 500k her first week sales, or total after two weeks or something? Was her CD released the same time as Secret?

Remember that those 500k might be shipped units, and the page was only talking about the RIAJ award or something. RIAJ recognize shipped units instead of sold.

Or, with some luck, in a few hours.

I doubt that, though.

i roughly translated it...it says 200k sold (oww)..and it was expected to sold 300k instead...but many orders are rushing in and now CD shops need more...

As for me I'm waiting for Oricon sales!

emi♡ 4th December 2006 05:42 PM

You guys, this happens every time she releases something.

People get worked up over the sales, others get worked up over the people getting worked up.

Just be happy that the album is good. I doubt very much that these salesare going to end Ayu's career. Let's all have some fruit and be happy. :D

Yeah, you're right! That's the attitude we should all take. :yes

People should stop saying she may stop her career.
Ayu is still a super diva !

If the sales are better than (m)u, I am happy.

Anyway, I was also expecting more and will wait for more official numbers :)

Maybe some Japanese don't know yet that album tracks are better than single ones. So it takes time to spread the information, let's wait a bit more :)
