I heard the cd as well and I don't like it at all. Best song on their is umberlla and I don't even like that song

Aisha_Angel 18th July 2007 08:24 PM

I was mad about Breakin' Dishes -edit version- too! All she says is I'm kicking asses, so why did that have to be edited out? On Britney's "Early Morning" track she said ass and it wasn't censored out and nor was the album slapped with a parental advisory label.

austin. ♥ 18th July 2007 10:15 PM

Umbrella has been the UK #1 for 9 consectutive weeks now.
it has so far sold 348k and is currently the top selling UK single of 2007 so far. :)
+ it's the most successful single since Gnarl Barkeleys Crazy.
(where have they gone anyway?)
umm. chyah that's it. ;D

criminal 18th July 2007 10:33 PM

I hope she won't suffer from the James Blunt-type of backlash.

Weslicious 18th July 2007 10:37 PM

^^^I'm hoping it stays in the top 20 for another month and a bit, so they decide to hold back SU&D in the UK, and have Breaking Dishes as the second UK single.

Some band did a cover of Umbrella on Radio 1 last week, and Jo Whiley has played it a few time's since. It's a really lovely acoustic version.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/jowhiley...1/#gallery1796

Forward to 16 and a half minutes. Love it.

I don't understand it either. It's not even crude enough for the explicit content/lyrics label let alone the crappy edit.

Aisha_Angel 19th July 2007 01:35 AM

*sigh* When I first heard the song I thought she'd laid the N-bomb, but to discover that she'd only said "ass" instead was just a little stupid to me. Maybe she'll release a deluxe edition that featured the UNCUT version instead.

Secretly, I hope she does release a CD+DVD version of this album soon. It's rather annoying trying to catch her videos on TRL everyday. If I had high-speed internet though, all that wouldn't be much of a problem...

No_Doubt 19th July 2007 03:15 AM

Good Girl Gone Bad is incredible! While I'm still not entirely convinced that Rihanna is a great talent or a credible artist, it's wonderful to see her at least move away from the island rhythms that dominated her music and into more exciting, edgy territory. Even still, I think this his hands down the best pop album of the year. Almost every song has the potential to become a monster hit, with their infectious hooks and stellar production. Excellent job Riri!

austin. ♥ 22nd July 2007 12:27 AM

woah.. the Shut Up And Drive video is..

No_Doubt 22nd July 2007 08:06 PM

^Shexxxful! Very provacative. She's an awful dancer though, it's kind of laughable.

I'm so excited cause I'm seeing her live in September! Vocally, I don't know how she'll fare, but I'm sure she'll look great, my little bodacious Bajan beauty/bombshell/babycakes! Akon is also sharing the stage with her for the Canadian dates though...that's not quite as exciting.

Don't Stop The Music PV is out as well. She filmed it at the same time as Shut Up & Drive while she was in Europe, and recently premiered it on BET. Seems kind of dumb dumb to rush out the video for this third single when Shut Up & Drive is just starting to pick up some steam on the charts.

She confirmed that I Hate That I Love You will be the fourth single as well while at BET. I'm not too enthused about that choice, because I'd much prefer Breakin' Dishes or Rehab to be the fourth single. ESPECIALLY Breakin' Dishes, because she confirmed it to be the third single before the album was even released, but that never came into fruition. Even still, all the tracks on the album have potential to be hits in my opinion, so I don't really mind her choice for fourth single.

Aisha_Angel 22nd July 2007 08:50 PM

I hate the Don't Stop the Music video...It's so mediocre to me. The beginning of it seemed to have so much potential but the middle-&-end were so typical. She's an international superstar now, she shouldn't really have to make videos like that anymore.

Now Shut Up & Drive? That's one of her best to me. I especially like the Fast & the Furious walking scene, it really shows off her gorgeous legs and curvy figure.

As for Hate That I Love You as the fourth single, I feel terrible about it. I really don't like Ne-Yo, especially after the way he's been treating his supposed baby's momma...Then there's the fact that he's just such a retard when it comes to clarifying himself as an entertainer, a songwriter and whatnot...We know what you are already! But then again, it's not as if you're really THAT good at what you do...At least not enough for you to keep telling us over & over again.

*sighs* I just wish she'd have released Rehab as her ballad single instead. Regardless of Amy Winehouse's (btw why does everyone call her Amy Crackhouse?) song Rehab, it really shouldn't matter anyway. Or at least it doesn't to me.

bondingo 23rd July 2007 12:25 AM

I agree that HTILY shouldn't have been the fourth single.

However, the reason everyone calls Winehouse that is 1. she is kind of a druggy (sp), and 2. she's had plenty of mishaps such as spitting on a crowd of fans and banging a mic on her head while performing onstage. She's out there, but I love her music.

Weslicious 23rd July 2007 12:36 AM

I always thought her actual surname was extremely fitting :laugh

Oh well, if drinking and smoking to excess gave her that voice I'm all for it.

Back on topic: As long as Breakin' Dishes gets a video I don't care what the 4th single is. That song is brilliant.

Cyria 23rd July 2007 07:46 PM

Umbrella has been UK #1 for ten weeks. It's the longest #1 reign since '94.

austin. ♥ 23rd July 2007 07:49 PM

That's so awesome. Gwen Stefani pointed made direct eye contact with me at her concert. I was in the third row. I'd love to see Rhanna live though.

And has anyone heard the song "Cry"? It's a bonus track on Good Girl Gone Bad but it's seriously so beautiful I think it should be a single.

I loveeee that song. Another one I really like "PS Im still in love with you" I think it's called.

Ah, I love P.S.'s lyrics. It's actually sad when you think about it, but the music and her voice.. they make it seem like she's taking everything positively.
As for sad ballads.. Final Goodbye is so emotional. It should have been the closing track of A Girl Like Me.

No_Doubt 3rd February 2008 05:26 AM

I love love love "P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You)" to pieces. Before she sang "Umbrella" in concert she did a spoken intro for it while her band played "P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You)". But unfortunately she didn't actually sing it. It was heart-breaking.

She's coming to Canada and the US again as part of Kanye's tour, alongside N.E.R.D and Lupe Fiasco who are also support acts! It's gonna be BALLIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate that too but the reason they do these rereleases IS for money. I wish they would just give us the option to begin with (since it's kind of unpredictable which albums are going to be rereleased), but there isn't anything we can do about it. I loved GGGB but I'm not buying the rerelease because I'm not going to support their crappy money-making strategies. Take A Bow sucks ass too. Riri could have done so much better.

I want it to leak too! Actually, I didn't find Take A Bow to be a bad song. It wasn't great, nor was it single-worthy, but it's not bad. I somewhat like it.

jknza2664 31st May 2008 10:39 PM

I think the fact that a pretty mediocre song like Take a Bow went to number one demonstrates that Rihanna is getting alot of attention now. I think what she needs to secure her status as a bonafide popstar with staying power is a string of really good songs right now while she has the spotlight. I think Don't Stop the Music and Umbrella and basically the GGGB album as a whole was a step in the right direction. Hopefully she can hold onto the success. Her next album has to clinch it.

BTW Disturbia is greaaaaaat!

Melon Panda 1st June 2008 07:14 AM

Agreed! Her next album has to be as good as Good Girl Gone Bad or else her reputation will fall.

I'm thinking her record label is probably mad that she's one of the hottest artists out there, but the album has definitely underperformed in the States. 1.3 million is strangely low after having 4 top ten hits, 2 of which reaching #1. They probably want the album to sell another million or so, so they're rereleasing it. She's taking a page right out of Mimi's book with this one.

I don't like her lipstick colour in there

No_Doubt 27th June 2008 05:21 AM

Disturbia debuted this week at 18 on the Hot 100, her highest debut thus far! Hopefully radio will embrace the single (which is pretty much inevitable), because I fear digital sales might stall pretty quickly otherwise. Like I said though, I'm extremely confident Rihanna has another sure-fire hit on her hands.

I actually decided to pick up the rerelease simply because I adored GGGB so very much. Admittedly, the rerelease is pretty pointless and makes what was originally a perfectly paced pop album feel unnecessarily bloated, but Disturbia and the packaging alone make up for it. The new turqouise/red colour scheme on the cover looks awful in pictures, but in actuallity it's very shiny and metallic and classy and beautiful.

Take A Bow is still mind-numbingly uninspired though. It's most definitly a decent song and a smart single choice given how Americans seem to jump on any sassy female breakup anthem/Irreplaceable clone, but it hardly fits the tone of the album.

After Disturbia, I really hope Breakin' Dishes finally sees a release. Sure, she's been milking this thing long enough, but I really think its the only other song she'll ever have that has the potential to come even somewhat close to the massive success of Umbrella.

I think so too. Disturbia is a fantastic song and far better than the horribly dull Take a Bow. Like you said, it's decent enough but it bothers me that people can release boring songs like that and people here will eat them all up. There's far too much dull R&B getting success here in the states.

I'm picking it up as well for the same reasons, even though I also own the original release. I do think the cover is much better than the original, but it bothers me that they couldn't have just done another shoot for a new cover. The whole "recycling the same image with pretty metallic colors" thing seems pretty cheap to me. I think Disturbia will be the last single from GGGB though. I don't see Breakin' Dishes happening, even though it was rumored long ago. I would love for it to happen, but I don't think it will. Now with the rerelease, releasing a song from the original version as a single doesn't seem like something they would do (unless they're REALLY desperate for her not to release anything new).

Rihanna's new material sounds so much better than her debut music. My copy of GGGB should arrive today, and I can't wait to listen to all of the tracks. I already love "Umbrella," "Don't Stop the Music," and "Disturbia." :heart

are there any "non-wiki-based" news of "DISTURBIA" .. like hows the PV is going to be like ... who are the remixers of this song .. stuff like that ... I've been so waiting for a release of DISTURBIA as a single that I simply can't wait for it till it finally comes out .. sorry if that comment makes no sense at all, but I'm tired as hell and typing is the only thing that keeps me up at this hour.. I can't drink any coffee for .. well ... a long time .. cause my stomach can't handle it anymore ... soo ... and sorry for the off-topic going :laugh
