Right, the UWC is what I'm talking about. There is no where on the UWC site that lists Ayu's album as #1 for the week, with sales figures (as they usually do.) There is just the message that it "bowed in at #1" which could mean daily or weekly. :shrug:

As Demure_Dusk pointed out, if she is #1 for the week, then she should be on this list: http://www.mediatraffic.de/albums.htm but she is not, although Kobukuro is. Even Bump of Chicken is way up there. It's for the first week of January. So hypothetically she should be on there somewhere, but oddly she is not. So yeah, still gotta wait for Oricon I think.

I think he was refering to the chart itself, more than this message (I think), or Peger just should explain.

Though I don't know if they would put such a message for 1 or couple of days on #1. Doesn't make sense.
I mean they could put kobukuro there instead of ayu for the #1, if they were the ones who are #1 (For the whole week). We gotta wait and see I suppose.

Yeah, as I said though, the chart itself doesn't have Ayumi on it. So there is conflicting information. And the link that the "bows at #1" message gives is to the Oricon daily chart.

That link is for last week's chart. They haven't posted any numbers for this week other than Alicia Keys' because she's the Global #1. When they update the Top 40 chart for this week, Ayumi, Kobukuro, and any other Japanese titles that made the list will have their estimates posted.

The UWC still gets data from Japan when Oricon goes on break; if you look at their archive from last year, you'll see they have Koda's second week #'s.

Yes, that explains why ayu isn't there, it's from last week.
To tell the truth I won't be surprised if GUILTY is really #1.

Ahh I see. Didn't Kobukuro release on the same week as Ayu though? Also, the chart says it's for 1/5/07, so kinda confusing.

Kobukruo released their album the week before Ayumi, which is why they're album is listed as new on the un-updated link. I believe the date listed is the official publication date of the chart; for some reason, it's always well after the week in question ends. For instance this week's Billboard chart is the 1/19/08 chart.

Guys these charts are wrong.
We know from the daily charts that Kobokuro sold at least 147,000 from their first 4 days, however these charts say they sold 142k for the WEEK.
Leads me to believe they used Sound Scan, and only counted 1 edition.
Therefore I think it's safe to say Ayumi probably won't be getting ORICON #1 :(
Hope this isn't too confusing :\
EDIT: This means that Ayumi sold more than 202,000 as her CD only edition wasn't counted. Of course, this means the same for kobukuro, but their sales are more balanced between the 2 editions, and Ayumi's CD editions always chart A LOT lower than the DVD edition on Sound Scan...
We won't know for sure until Monday when ORICON is published, all the above is speculation, but when you think about it... it makes sense!

hmmm this really will be a nailbiter then because I'm sure Kobukuro makes the majority of their sales from the CD only version, not the DVD version like Ayu does.

You know, part of me actually wants GUILTY to stall at #2. Anyway, if it's not this one, it's going to be the next one, but I was kinda hoping for Ayu to have 10 consectutive #1 albums in ten years and only then get a #2 or whatever, 'cos that'd be cool.

I think it's good tho that they don't shy away from a challenge and release when no one big is releasing at the same time. Kobukuro are huge, their collection album released at 2006 is still charting with like 2.5 million copies sold.

well, I can't really imagine that anyone is making big news out of it. I don't care at all about how much that album sells, but I'd say it's fun to see how much is sold overall. If that over 400,000 copies is true, that's a lot. It's even more than Secret sold on its first week. :> But, not that it matters. I love GUILTY more than Secret. GUILTY has strong emotional feeling in it, just like (miss)understood. :3

well we still don't know for sure that she will get weekly #1. Kobukuro is very strong...not only does their albums sell well, they just won the grand prize award which will boost their sales. Exile is also very strong. Their album is still selling well and they also won a award...so even if ayu doesn't get #1 and lost to kobukuro, (hopefully not exile too) I'm still satisfied...becuase they are talented and I rather her lose the spot to them than ppl from johnny's...XD

I finally got my GUILTY cd from the mail...and so sad to see the album was delicated to her 'dearest friend' that passed away. Ayu must of been very close to her friend.

no!no!dun get confused by that cm guys!that cm is trying to say that kobukuro's best album peaked oricon no.1 chart for a very long period of time last year 2007~this album get released last year and sold more than 2million copies(but is still charting on oricon now)...and kobukuro just released a brand new album [5296] which is still on the top10 oricon chart now :)

but ayu's GUILTY album released 1 or 2 weeks later by that kobukuro's new album...so i guess GUILTY will take the no.1 spot :P

kobukuro's album was released 1 week before ayu's...so GUILTY's 1st + 2nd week = kobukuro's 2nd + 3rd week sales.
