I don't think they get to choose who, but when they schedule it, I think they try to make it so that artists who at least are aware of one another are calling each other.

I'm surprised that JJ(?)'s Japanese sounds really good. I'm not any boyband's fan so I'm not really familiar with them except he's from Korean :P.

btw... I got a little confusion on this part:

Yeah, I realized. I got a little confused too, because he didn't sound like he was asking a question when I first heard him. Like when you ask "genki desu ka?" you have this upward inflection at the end to state that you're asking a question, like how ayu says it. But when JJ said it, he was like "genki desu yo. genki desu ka" really quick, so it can be interpreted as he was saying "I'm well. I'm well?" in the sort of Japanese mistake that non-native speakers sometimes make when they mix up particles. That's the impression I got. Lol I don't really know how to explain this properly, but I've made the change to your suggestion. :)
