have any of you thought that this song could be written after she watched a movie or read a novel??
though its normal for people to remember old memories but to always describe similar feelings is not easy, it will always needs some trigger or something... |

I believe that each person gives a special meaning to the song and that's the best part of it |

of course it's nice to indulge ourselves in writing misteries and stories about what might be behind her words, but the main thing is to adapt them and use them in our own good. But I don't think trying to figure out what's their meaning is violating her privacy, since she exposes those lyrics, part of herlsef, presumably, into the whole public. and yes, after all, she could just have been inspired by something she saw/read/listened... And I started liking this song just a week ago!!! I don't know why, but at the beginning I couldn't stand it... |
She can still reflect on her past... And every single one of her songs isn't autobiographical anyway.
There's been very few times that she's ever said "This song is about this" or "This song means this" so we can't really expect her to explain. |
I can't shake the idea that the song is about a past lover, because this song came out about a month after is was dumped by a 3-year boyfriend. :headache So whether or not that's what Ayu meant by the song, it's what I always hear in it.

Even if we're meant to find our own meanings in songs, which we're more than capable of doing, I still think it's quite interesting to find the "backstory" of each song - it definitely helps in making them more substantial (a song is born, anyone? Free & Easy, Memorial address, Together when..., etc.?).
You were... is one of her most beautiful recent ballads, and both the lyrics and (especially) the PV intrigue me :) |

It took me way more that a month to get over it, if that's what you mean. It was a very serious relationship. |
Just because Ayumi writes a ballad about missing someone, losing someone or loving someone does not mean she feels that at the moment of writing, she might as well have heard the melody and thought back to a time she felt like that, sure, it COULD be about Nagase(I honestly doubt it), it coulb be about someone she just lost, it could be about someone she lost years ago, it could just be about the feeling of losing someone without a person in mind.
