You know, I always wondered how come yume no uta was a hit and she rarely sing it (after Black Cherry tour), unlike ai no uta. I know that ai no uta is her biggest ballad hit but yume no uta was almost the same at its time, it seems as though that the Japanese and kuu herself prefer ai no uta (exclusively). I wonder why?

She has you, yume no uta, unmei and stay with me which were relatively big hits but most of the time it's mainly ai no uta that gets the spotlight.

I'm pretty sure Yume no Uta is forgotten because of the "scandal" of plagiarize that hit the composer...
Since then, she never sang that song anymore and start to perform Futari de... instead.

Ai no Uta was more karaoke friendly and became one of her biggest hit but yeah she has plenty ballads hit... I wish she could switch from time to time... Never really cared about that song.

Edit :

I found one video which sum-up the story.
Although the composition is quite similar, it's a shame because Yume no Uta is one of her best ballad.

Oh my god. How did I never know about this plagiarism scandal? O_O

I absolutely love Yume no Uta, way way way way more than Ai no Uta. (I actually can't stand it.) But I truly never knew about this...

Hmm. I suppose that makes sense then as to why she doesn't perform it much. But I mean...it shouldn't stop her from performing it.

Darkifrit 29th May 2014 08:50 AM

^ Kumi was not hurted about it but Avex and the composer were.
He was quite big composer for Avex : EXILE, Kumi (he composed m.a.z.e, Rain)... but i don't think he was that active after that story, at least for one year or two.
I noticed he composed the new (shitty) version of walk in 2010. Maybe water goes under the bridge since then.

If i'm right, the issue became big 1 year after its release, it makes me wonder if it didn't help Ai no Uta to become a huge hit (reminds me at its release, the song was presented as Yume no Uta part II).

Other topic but Imagine is really great. One of her best recent ballad.
I almost cried during the concert. Her interpretation was deep.
I wish she released it as single.

Lol that's really similar wow, but Kuu has lots of covers like Can We Go Back and Physical Thing. I can't stand Ai no Uta either, ugh. It's so boring without strong emotion imo. That beginning... "moshi kimi ni..." blabla zzz bye.

Corvina 29th May 2014 02:47 PM

The photoshoot is for tawainese magazines. She also did several interviews.
So not for a release.

Physical thing and Can We Go Back aren`t covers. As well TOUCH DOWN and some others. They were never released in the west, there are just demos from (popular) western singers or in Physical things case, the writer made a demo to actually sell it to an artist (Kuu).
Also, it seems composers can sell their songs both in the west and in the east. And I think those aren`t official covers as well, at least by law.

milky_way 29th May 2014 05:46 PM

^ Can We Go Back was released here.

I love some cutey-Kuu, but every time she tries, either it's brilliant or really, really awful.
So I'm curious, but scared at the same time, lol.

adantatu2 29th May 2014 10:41 PM

All her songs with the word "Shake" are amazing !!!

mi|kshake 29th May 2014 10:52 PM

Cutesy Kuu wise, I love Love Technique and Lovely, so I wouldn't mind more songs like those!

marty 29th May 2014 11:13 PM

^
That's my favourite cootie-Kuu too! =D
The video of Love Technique made me squee!

sora-kara 29th May 2014 11:48 PM

The best version of cute Kuu is Chase.
Cute, but still sexy and mature! That song is AWESOME, and so is the PV!
Koi no Tsubomi and Birthday Eve are also good cuties.

I'd also like to see her do re-arrangements and maybe some new vocals for older songs (like Take Back, Come with me, without your love, Promise (a new arrangement so she can sing it live again!), 24, love holic, flower needs a PV...) really, I'd like her to give some love to the lesser enjoyed songs in her career. Well, that's not really something people do for anniversaries though is it? hahaha maybe that'd make a nice personal project for her sometime down the road.

I agree about those being her best cute songs. I think is because they are jazzy. I love jazz Kuu. WHY DID SHE LEAVE ME???

freedreamer 30th May 2014 07:31 AM

omg i didnt know about Yume no Uta too! No wonder she hasn't done that song since forever ><
(and that user has BoA's and Ai's stuff too wow)

Can We Go Back IS a cover, as are some other songs and 2 full albums worth lol.

Corvina 30th May 2014 01:55 PM

Lol, I wasn`t talking about the cover albums, obviously.
I`m just saying, that all those songs are still counted as original songs, not as covers.
Nvm.

I just finished watching JAPONESQUE tour and now I can't watch other tours for at least four months. My expectations are suddendly TOO HIGH.
Apart from that hideous outfit in the ballad section, she slayed so hard it was painful.

sora-kara 30th May 2014 08:44 PM

YES! ROLLERBALLS!!!!!
:D Now is the time to order one of each scent! :D:D

I thought it was sold to her the same time it was sold to Kelly Clarkson.

Yeah but it doesn't make sense since futari de... has exactly the same composition and it's as evident in it as in yume no uta... I also always thought it was more of a big deal in foreign forums rather than internal avex one but if the composer wasn't really active right after that so maybe =P

I love yume no uta, it blows ai no uta out of the water (and futari de... too but I like both).
I also always loved that oku hanako song. She's a great composer.
