Tohoshinki – WITH (Sales Number: 266,824)
Amuro Namie – _genic (Sales Number: 246,269)
ONE OK ROCK – 35xxxv (Sales Number: 241,307)

My favorite group, one of my favorite solo girls, and my favorite band all back to back. That just made me smile sooo much. xD

This is certainly going to be a great Christmas!

EDIT: Just to clarify, it sold 905,000 copies in its first week. Then only sold 25,000 in its second. It MAY actually not even sell 1,000,000 copies. :D :D :D :D :D I say we break out the bacardi and have some cocktails to celebrate!

You talk as if AKB selling less would mean other acts selling more lol

FYI, AKB announced another event tied to the single + a new edition of it showcasing the b-side more (the theme song for the NHK asadora), so... the million is still within reach. :P

ANYWAY,

It's kinda sad seeing Ayu so low, tbh.
10 years ago she would be among the first in all the lists. :(

OMG at all the dramatic people in here. AKB48 falling won't make the music industry better, unless other artists release better music. And, since when are the most sold singles the reflection of a whole music industry? Anyway, happy that Nogizaka46 managed to place their three singles in the top 10, hoping they can beat AKB soln

Oh god, only Ayu and Namie are on the lists and no Kuu. This is a very sad day to me who loves all three so much. :(

The evil vibe of this post hints of a sweet taste of chaos, I love it~ :love

It's like the JPOP industry is exactly the same for 7 years already, that's awful.
Almost no changes on top 10s (arashi/AKB48 and its subs/EXILE and its subs.

Anyway ayu's total sales for 2015 is 171,720 (Albums/Singles/DVDs/Blu-rays).
(On another note, unfortunately Every Little Thing's Time To Destination is not on top 10 selling albums in japan anymore because of Southern All Stars).

So much has changed in the music industry in the past decade in regards to sales. Oricon should be forced to add online downloads. I think we would see a very different ranking....

Kuu is on the top, WOML is #95 at the album ranking. That list on the first post isn't complete, it's only the first half.

Actually, when idols are succeeding, it means all the other companies try to achieve similar success by having their own idol groups.

If solo artists are succeeding, all the other companies try to get their own big solo artist.

If trio's are in, same thing.

The Japanese music industry follows trends within its own market. That's why when Ayu was "it" other companies tried to achieve her success and the market was inundated with solo artists. Koda doing sexy = everyone doing sexy.

Prior to AKB's success, all these little idol groups, while in existence, weren't being pushed by their labels.

So if idols start declining in sales and popularity, there's certainly a chance that labels will take notice and shift focus.

Pretty interesting point indeed. Let's see what happens into 2016 and beyond, especially onto 2020 (the year of the Olympics in Tokyo!)...

Sadly for some of you, AKB48's last single is already at 996.000 copies sold, the million streak is safe

Yeah, thought this was a stupid idea...but even though the million-in-a-week streak is over, the million singles streak overall will still continue. Oh well... Still can't wait what's going to happen with AKB48 in 2016 and beyond...
