I don't think any of them will make it to mainstream in the U.S. It seems that America isn't ready for Asian music. But in all. Hikki has a higher chance. Probably years from now, Asian music will be more involved in America.
|
Well her American Album is in English so it wouldn't really be Asian music.

But she's Japanese and she creates music unlike most of the stuff in America. So even if it's in English, I would still consider it to be Japanese music. That's how I look at it.

i've not been a member of ahs for a long time...but one of the purpose of this forum i believe is to encourage information sharing of ayu and discussion to all ayu fans and to allow a chance for us to all appreciate ayu together
in fact i'm very happy to see a forum such as these where memebers can freely express their opinion the issue we're discussing is not necessarily arguing or causing chaos, i believe as this is one of the hottest topic in the japanese music industry where many well-know musical critics are concerned about and writing articles expressing their opinions, which also is another issue concerning our beloved ayu, being members of ahs, it is our privilage that we can express our opinion freely on this issue. it is also very interesting to see how different ayu friends have different opinions and that we're not afraid to express ourselves while also respecting others rights to state their opinion. this is the reason why i enter this forum and bring up this issue. i hope it won't 'cus any chaos or anything like that..... |
I can understand your point, mimika. Not only is Ayu compared to Hikki, but she's even been compared to Namie, Mai, and Halna. It seems common to compare her to other artists in that music industry, yet every now and then fans of both artists will become upset and start bickering about who is best.
The main point of this thread that I've noticed is this: There is no way to tell which artist is better. Each one has their own advantages and disadvantages, yet there isn't a way to make a clear-cut win or loose sitution between the two. Both artists are popular, best-selling singers with a large influence on the J-Pop music area, even though they both may be competing for CD sales. Some people love Ayu. Others hate Ayu. Some people love Hikki. Others hate Hikki. Those who hate one and love the other fail to understand her true potential as an artist. Without either one, how would J-pop evolve into the diverse form it is today after the "fall" of Namie: trance, techno, pop, R&B, and other styles. Without either of them, this influence might have been slow to appear, even if Mai slightly imitated Hikki's R&B style. |
thank you chibinina, i also agree with you that it is the diversity of the pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~ music industry that makes it as flourishing as ever:)
it is also thru such discussion and places for freedom of expression like the ahs forum that diversity results l really appreciate all members of this forum that has take part in voicing their opinion :wave |
same... althought i admire both of them... but i prefer ayumi more

well said, chibi

I am a big Hikki fan but i like Ayu to......But i think Hikki has a better chance of getting big in America...Because she speaks fluent english and she was partly raised in America...I don't think Ayu even knows english.....Anyway both of them are great but i like Hikki more:)

hmm...sorry to join so late, but here's my 2 cents.
Hikki in the US? I'm also worried about Hikki making it in the US cuz no Japanese artist (or Asian) has succeeded there yet (that i know of). But her Kingdom Hearts popularity will at least draw the gamers :D Ayu in UK: I think Ayu would have a chance in UK cuz i remember a while back, one of her songs made it into the top 20 there. I was really impressed when i heard that. Looks-wise, Ayu VS Hikki in US: i think Ayu would win cuz she stands out w/ her dyed hair and various fashion styles. I think Hikki would look like just another Asian to US people. I've heard so many times, "Your Asian singers look all alike". It really ticks me off to hear that, but that is reality, unfortunately :( Ayu's voice VS Hikki's voice: yeah, i'm not a fan of deep voice either - i tend to prefer high-pitched voice cuz it sounds more cute ;) But i guess i got used to it, so i now i don't mind Hikki's voice, or Koyanagi Yuki & Kuraki Mai. But as much as I love Ayu, her live voice is not that good...it crackles, or whatever you call it...but as my username says, that doesn't change the fact that "I love Ayu"! ;) that's all i have to say...i hope i didn't offend anyone... |
while we're on the subject of hikki's voice..... i have always had a problem with it. it is very good, yes, but her vibrado is too quick. she doesn't drag it out like Ayu does. I don't know, that has just always bothered me. Anyone else know what i'm talking about? And i think ayu has a fabulous voice now. It is so much better than it used to be. much richer! i love ayu and wish she would try to produce an english album, but i am still content listening to her japanese music.

This is a SO UNNECESSARY THREAD!!!
Anyone who is stupid enough to write anything bad about either artist in this thread is...well, really STUPID! |

i think that there's no such thing as "who is better, her or her?" it's all about the "people's taste for music". some might say that ayumi is better than utada because they're an ayu fan. some might say the vice versa.
to be honest, i like utada more than ayu. i have all of utada's cds. and i love the way she sings and the content of her songs (lyric). just as i said, it's people's taste for music. i'm an rnb listener so i'll choose utada. and i like her bilingual style of singing. well, i like ayumi's songs too like connected, unite! etc... it's just that, we should not compare these two. because they're not alike. like us listeners. we're not alike, we listen to different music. some trance, some rnb. so... let's just say that... if you're an ayu fan. then you're an ayu fan. if you're an utada fan. then so it is... but let's not compare these two. people are different in every way. let's just try to appreciate each and every people's (like these two's) achievement. like utada's rnb style. and ayu's trance/dance style. and lastly, if you're a music lover (really a music lover). you'll appreciate every song you'll hear. no matter if it's rock, rap, trance, rnb, etc... it'll not matter to you. |
Fight! fight! fight!
