It's nice to see all the numbers together, I think 40+ million sales is very impressive. By the way, can anyone explain why Daybreak had such poor sales? Even if it was limited (only 300 000 copies made?), about 180 000 seems quite low.

Do you have the total sales for her dvds? I'd like to know how well they sell too. :)

no, apparently it is just because the japanese music market slumped. not related to mp3s

isaac hiew 8th April 2005 05:01 PM

May I post this up in the ayumi library section? You and Hamasaki Republic will get credit for this.

elepop 8th April 2005 11:35 PM

^^ Sure. ;)

Here's an equivelant "top artists" list for the USA:
http://www.dailycelebrations.com/RIAA.htm
Ayu would be about number 32 overall on that list, or about 5th or 6th place if only counting female solo artists. Edit SEE POST BELOW

It's about 100 shipping containers worth, 20x30x12 meters. Similar to 10 billion pennies (image from megapenny site, note the little person for scale):

Actually, LeButler, the RIAA list only includes album sales. http://www.riaa.com/gp/bestsellers/topartists.asp
So, Ayu wouldn't be on the top list, because you counted singles.
She's sold around 16 million albums. Which, I would say is about 32 million in America. I'm not too sure though.

NyoNyo 9th April 2005 06:07 PM

Oh Wow, so great!!!

Ayu's really a Queen of J-Pop!!!

well.... they don't include the downloaders and.... piracy buyers :(.... if they add it, the rate will be higher :P

isaac hiew 12th April 2005 02:14 AM

asongforxx, I hope all of the numbers are right? If you can really confirm the final numbers (I know they are adding up, just give me what you have truly confirmed) and then I'll post that up, while you and Hamasaki Republic will get the credit. :)

ruixiong89 14th April 2005 04:10 PM

Haha, and that's NOT including the overseas versions! I mean if you count all the Ayu CDs, the legitimate ones (Japan and overseas versions), you can probably add another 1/4 of the total amount of CDs that she has sold onto this current number of CDs!

kendelle 17th April 2005 10:40 AM

Wow, that's amazing. But then again, it's not a surprise, considering her talent ^_^

SunshineSlayer 17th April 2005 11:22 AM

They just did a special on Music Station where they ranked all of the artists by total sales and Ayu is #4 in Japan. I imagine that by the end of her career she will be #1 on the list by a long shot considering that the 3 artists above her in sales have been around for a lot longer.

Utada was #9, so that should put the "who sells more" debate to rest.
