No, but I'm sure I've seen the sales for most of her releases including MSC SOMEWHERE. I'll try and find it.

By the way, who in the hell is "ORANGE RANGE" and what ha(s/ve) he/she/they/it sold to be that far up?! O_o

Does anybody know how much MY STORY Classical sold?

MY STORY Classical sold around 80,000 copies, I believe. I'm not too sure.

kyomiayu 20th December 2005 02:38 AM

I love koda kumi and i know she is very popular in Japan. But I really surprise she sell more than Ayu.

Hurray for AYU! #4 is still great :)

Well, Koda Kumi did release a best-of album, which usually sells a lot. Also, secret, another album. Plus, she had many, many singles too. (you, flower, Promise, Star, Birthday Eve, Butterfly, Hot Stuff)

02: Ketsumeishi: 3,260,000
03: Koda Kumi: 2,229,000
04: Hamasaki Ayumi: 2,360,000
05: Southern All Stars: 2,540,000

Well that makes no sense at all since Ayu's numbers are higher than Kuu's.

Annabelle 20th December 2005 02:44 AM

^ You forgot "hands" which was just released before secret.

BoA's LOVE & HONESTY didn't even pass 700k :rolleyes And Ai's LOVE PUNCH and LOVE JAM both sold a little more than 650 000 copies.

Anyway, I'm quite happy for Ayu and Kumi. Just a little disappointed by Ai's ranking but still, congrats everyone! :D

the reason y kumi's ranked higher on the chart [the original post 1] is [u already stated it] cos she released 2 albums. as this is a chart ranking how much $$ each artist raked in for their company, 2 albums=more $$. its all math involved here.

koda kumi= 75,370 [or 7,537,020,000]
albums= (1,200,000+500,000)X 3570 [took avg price of cd, cd+dvd]
singles= 366,000X 1470 [took avg price of cd, cd+dvd]
dvd= 155,000X 6000

ayu= 65,332 [or 6,533,200,000]
albums= (1,177,000+90,000)X 3570 [took avg price of cd, cd+dvd]
singles= 1,000,000X 1470 [took avg price of cd, cd+dvd]
dvd= 90,000X 6000

these rough calculations i made r pretty darn close to the actual nubers, n shows y kumi is ranked higher than ayu.

ORANGE RANGE is a male band [not popband, a rock-pop band]. they started to become really popular since last yr but after 1 of their popular members decided to leave, their popularity is slowly declining but they r still popular.

1st wk sales:
PLANETARIUM: ~92,000
you: ~72,000

yea, it sold more, but mayb "you" will stay on the charts longer like PLANETARIUM

JinHamasaki 20th December 2005 03:33 AM

This list isn't the most accurate, since it does not include live tours, which the MY STORY tour did extremely well. But I think because Koda Kumi had two albums, it put her higher on the list since the company made more money from that. It's still very good to see Ayu in the top 5, though, especially since she had a quieter release year.

Oh, and they are going to have to probably pay the artist more if they write their own lyrics, compose, etc. which is why Ayu and some of the other major aritsts are further down.

celebskin22 20th December 2005 03:48 AM

im surprised taht namie is not on the list!

I would have been surprised if she was on the list. She didn't release a lot this year, and she doesn't sell as much as she used to.

Indie 20th December 2005 04:14 AM

what is Destiny's Child doing there? O.o

MY STORY i think did ok, i dunno how DVDs do in japan neway. it sold ~80,000. that was behind both otsuka ai's n koda kumi's live tour dvds which sold 150,000+

This is weird....How come from this, Koda sales are lesser....

LacusClyne 20th December 2005 05:35 AM

at least ayu still in the top 5.

that's because she SOLD less, but she gave Avex more income.

Ahhh I completely forgot about SECRET. That would explain it then.

She doesn't. Ayu sold more than her in 2005, but Koda Kumi made more money, probably because Koda Kumi released two CDs [more expensive than singles] while Ayu just released MY STORY.

Birthday Eve and You doesn't count because they were released after november/2005 and that's when the Oricon year finish.[/QUOTE]

Love & Honesty sold over 800k, Love Punch sold over 600k and Love Jam sold over 400k.

It's very accurate because it's not about how much money the artist made, but how much money they did for SALES, so, tours doesn't count. If the tour counted, than Ayu would be after lots of artists who sold less than her [SMAP, Mr. Children] but she would be before Koda Kumi, obviously. Ayu sold out all her concerts in big venues while Koda Kumi didn't make any proper tour, only for small concert venues.

Maybe, but I don't think so looking at Oricon Daily. With singles released every week, fans we'll have more to chose from and I think YOU won't sell as much as it would.

I'm assuming it is Koda's 1st major concert DVD. Ayu has had several, so I'm sure casual fans of Ayu's are not going to buy her tour every year - they are going to go for someone that they don't have a tour DVD from yet.

I'm surprised ayumi's popularity is going down...KK seems like the new JPop queen soon. Now I only wish what would've happened if she just stopped when she was 40% of the market share. Avex owes everything to her sadly...anyway, I'm glad to see KK could be the new jpop queen. Name - Ayumi - Koda...makes sense...Person - Person - SEXUAL PERSON... haha

yes. :)

several people have already said that it's because she (kumi) sold more albums/DVDs and those cost a lot more than singles, which is where ayu made most part of the total number of sales.
