i think this week just confirms a bit more that 200,000 for "Startin'/Born to Be..." is getting less and less likely. i think a better guess would be between 185,000-190,000.

the sales are good but not ayu's standard ~

perfectdeath 20th April 2006 02:43 PM

hrm.... so low compared to last year, but still good

krishna 21st April 2006 03:37 AM

Thanks for (m)u sales update!

micster 21st April 2006 03:47 AM

Heh, if (miss)understood sales stay like this it will take approx 65+ weeks to get to 1mil

hallelujah_united 21st April 2006 03:27 PM

Is this thread going to remain for 65 weeks though?

And I don't get why sales have slumped so badly this year. I read that the Japanese are starting to spend more again...:shrug

huh? (to the 1st question)

I think they are. so far, overall sales have been mixed. there are some good ones and some not so good. wait until when oricon makes it half year report (in late may) then compare with last year.

Kumichan 22nd April 2006 10:07 AM

I hope Startin'/Born To Be... will break 200,000

And (miss)understood to be 1 million ^-^

darkswordz 22nd April 2006 10:13 AM

may Ayu should start to buy her own albums

Endlessoul 22nd April 2006 12:34 PM

Still dropping. But it's not so bad.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, it's odd. As I theorized before, it seems that all sales are down for just about everyone except for the boy bands. B'z newly released single failed to get 200,000 it's opening week(down from their last single and it's a better song I think.) Also, Otsuka's Frienger sold 70,000 copies its first week.

well as of rite now, the top 30 singles combined have sales of about 8.2-8.3m. At 2005 half year, the combined sales of the top 30 was about 8.5-8.6m. There's 1 more month left before half year for oricon ends. So i think the figure will exceed last years.

But as has been stated nearly all of the top sales have been by boy bands - not by solo artists or artists that have commonly led the sales figures.

So while sales for boy bands are doing relatively good, everyone elses sales are down.

truehappiness 25th April 2006 02:31 AM

Seriously.

If you subtract the boybands.. that's like.. nothing LOL

well last year, the chart was dominated by male groups and last year was a pretty good year in overall sales. female solo artists (minus ayu and to an extent hikki) could never really sell as much as male groups. as for male solo artists, theres just a lack of them rite now.

Last year there were more solo artists and non-johnny's groups selling compared to this year thus far. Almost all artists that are non-Johnny's sales' are down compared to this time last year. Only one song by a female artist has sold more than 200,000 copies so far this year.(and that is only because it was used in a drama) That's just not good at all. No matter what way you look at it, the only people selling well right now are the boy bands.
