Sorry if it sounded a bit harsh. Try to show them photos of Ai otsuka and f.ex. koda kumi. Those people have changed a lot more than ayu, but ayumi hamasaki is the one being attacked the most on the issue of surgery. Probalby because of her striking looks (like namie amuro, her looks are special) and her extensive use of make-up.

I think that Ayumi has larger/rounder eyes than most Japanese people, but that photo were she looks like a princess is definetly photo shopped. Her eyes also get very squinty when she's happy/smiles.

You remember that glue to stick your upper double lid so it doesn't cover your eye? It's already been showed she most probably uses such a technique.

I don't even get where people get the idea that she had done many surgeries. For the eyes, I can understand. But to say that she had done a lot of surgeries other than her eyes? That's just non-sense. She looks exactly the same to me...

I used to think like this too... But now I'm kinda reassured that she doesn't do surgery, and haha! To think ppl called her plastic J-pop queen!!!

Really good job putting those two photos side by side and drawing the comparison lines, that was really cool! Everything seems to match up except the eyes in that comparison, yes? Well I too say the right one has severely photoshopped eyes because even when everything else matches up in proportion, the freaking irises are different sizes! You can't enlarge your iris/cornea!

I was talking to my Japanese friend (who was raised in the US) about Ayu, and he said that in Japan, everyone "knows" Ayu has had plastic surgery. I'm like well how the hell do they know??? He replies, trust me, the Japanese media KNOWS. Well I told him about how we at AHS have compared countless pictures and sat thinking about it for hours, only to conclude that the matter is inconclusive. Well that threw some doubt in his mind. But what he said troubled me; does that mean the general perception in Japan is that Ayu is a makeup/plastic surgery freak?

^I think so, because I got that feeling when Ayu was talked about in one of my lecture classes which was made up of both Japanese and foreign students. I feel like Japanese people either love her or hate her for the most part...there isn't much of a gray area.

Well, it's a thread about how someone who knows someone else that doesn't like Ayu because they believe that she has gotten major surgery on her eyes or w/e D: And they're trying to convince them..

Same for me， I talked to a lot of my japanese friends.They all think Ayu had done surgery. It is like Ayu=surgery that is why a lot of japanese don't really like her... I tried to convince them with the make ups things but I think I need to show more photos.

Exactly what I feared. Michael Jackson syndrome. I guess the best we can do is try to educate people, mainly showing them what a beautiful person Ayu is on the inside while asserting that the matter of plastic surgery is unproven either way.

But she's still very pretty, ne? Even if she's has plastic surgery, a lot of people who have had plastic surgery or wear a lot of make up end up fuglee, to use the popular term that I've been hearing here lately :D. Look at Kenny Rogers. He looked like awesomeness and then he felt he needed to get plastic surgery. He admitted himself that he's not satisfied, cause they basically messed up. So now he's obviously not natural.

Yes but most people only knows old songs and maybe recent CM from Ayu. So unless they watch some TV shows or concerts, they won't really know how beautiful Ayu is. About convincing Japanese people is quite difficult with my level, I need to show them pictures and video :yes

Nah, it seems that her entire face is "dragged out" a bit, and her eyes seem even more dragged out than the rest of the face. But it's not just the eyes that are different, the edge of her hair, and some of the chin too. THe part to the right isen't as clear as the other one either.
In Japan they sell these contact lenses that make your iris/cornea look bigger. It has nothing to do with sugery though.
She's definetly a make up "freak" though. Her look is hardly ever "natural", not since.. LOVEppears I guess. She definetly isen't afraid of artificially enhance her look, or use extensive stuff to get the look she wants (fake hair, wigs, nails, tons of eye make-up etc) but from pictures and performances I've seen I never got the impression she had surgery, not even her eyes. THe thought never ever crossed my mind before i saw it rought up on forums. Her child photos and idol stuff are pretty alike how she looks now, those pictures by maxter clearly show she was even double eye-lidded back then. This is also visible on the idol on stage performances.

She looks heavily maked up, but not really "plastic" and motionless, like f.ex Cher or michael jackson does. Make up cannot hide motionless and dead looking faces from plastic surgery.

I think what's changed is her use of make up, which has increased more and more during her career.

Of course , no one knows whether madonna or anyone had any surgery, but like in the case of ayu, I don't think she had any either. And I don't see why ayumi would have the need when she's not even 30 when madonna can look that good at nearly 50. None of them look "Plastic" in any way, except for dolly photoshopped pictures.

Perhaps they just find it hard to accept that a Japanese woman can have such unique beauty? Because, in my opinion, Ayu's beauty seems quite unusual among Japanese women in general.

But then again, how can it be that "a lot of japanese don't really like her", when she's obviously really very popular and famous in Japan? If I recall correctly, she's the highest-selling female artiste in Japan of all time, and the 4th highest pop act of all-time, behind B'z, Mr Children, and Southern All Stars. Or do you mean that a lot of Japanese in the U.S.A. don't like her?
