Ai's voice is superb irritating , Koda Kumi's dont really like her voice but her songs are nice. Ayumi, need I have to say?

This thread is not a good idea...Ayu - Kuu - Ai - popularity in my opinion - love all three!! ^^

It's reasonable for the statistics to be reflected as thus. Ayu reached her peak at the "A" and LOVEppears era, so her sales would definitely be high, and it was also rumored that she wanted to quit from the singing arena right?

Ai is cute!! I mean,her sakuranbo is really popular and widely publicized, so it's bound to have high sales..

Anyway, isn't kuu like, popular only in recent years? I would think they also added those albums that not performed so well (as in those in her debut year),so it affected the overall stats?

Yeah. Her album to sales ratio is not too good. :\

Her no.1 [as is Ai's] ratio from singles -> no.1s is also terrible..

Ayu has so many compared to the two of them.. I don't think they'll be able to compete even in the future.. D:

I think her sales will decline a lot more until her next album ... Sex only sells for a short time, kids, remember that. Nobody wants to see the same cooch and nipple every night. I disagree ayu reached her peak during A and LOVEppears era...its later than that...I say about A BEST/ i am... era

I wouldnt say I am ... i would say Duty/A BEST era. Well, everything peaked at different times.

Album Sales Peak = A BEST / Duty Era
Singles Sales Peak = LOVEppears Era

Then im sure there are lots of other peaks, like Concert Peak, which i *think* was around A STADIUM TOUR 2002 ... RAINBOW Era?

In this thread, I've just posted some statistics without mentioning what my intention was and with almost no commentary or conclusion... It's seemingly pointless, but it's not. It reveals people's opinions on the following:

1) If people think that album sales (and sales in general) are a good indication of a singer's popularity / success

2) Which singer(s) a person supports and why.

3) Which of the 3 singers (if any) do people think will dominate in the future.

4) Lastly, it shows that people's impressions are not always correct. As I said, I myself was surprised that Ai has higher original album sales and the higher selling single than Kuu.


lol... I disagree with this, coz I doubt any Japanese singer (no matter how attractive) could have surpassed Hamasaki Ayumi in her prime (sales-wise) for 2 years in a row just by selling sex alone.

I thought Ayu's sales-prime was more during the I am.. singles..

She had extremely high sales of both M and evolution..

It's pretty funny, Kuu is not even having a gradual decline like Ayu.

With Kuu, she just arrived on top completely out of no where and now she's fallen rock bottom quicker than you can say *****.

I remember when I first joined this forum, I got into an argument with 929 when I said that I predicted Kuu would fall half way through this year cause people are quickly becoming sick of her sex sells gimmicks, I was'nt far off!!!!

^^ Yeah, I'm not too sure how Kuu got all the attention all of the sudden. I mean... "secret" wasn't a huge hit. Her few singles after that did normal, nothing impressive. Just like her first best-of. Then the whole 12 singles scheme popped out of nowhere. It couldn't been the 12 singles because avex had to make sure it would sale... so that means something happen before that that made her very popular all of the sudden... Oh... And the second best did extremely well. Confusing, lol.

Ayu was really popular since the beginning. No wonder her sales and average is high. Though, she's declining right now. In the other hand, Kuu wasn't popular AT ALL when she started. She gradually sold more and suddendly was the hit girl. So yeah, it's normal that her sales and average are low. As for BoA, she was pretty well liked when she started. Her sales sort of declined like Ayu though. Ai has, to me, always been very consistant over the years. But she's relatively new, she only released 3 albums. I'm sure her sales are going to go up and up over the years to come.

Ai, i only know 1 song from her. Planetarium. and its very good very very good song.
Koda, i like her. my favorite song from her is Get Up & Move!! for now, but she's kinda w***e like.. but her some of her songs are good.. some..

I'm not being mean about Koda ~~ I'm being thruthfull. And I didn't say her fans now want to be like her... I said, in the end, its just gonig to be the girls that want to be 'sexy' like her.

hmmm ayu wins because: deep lyrics, emotion, great stage presence, genuine and "normal". she's a great role model and an inspiration XD the rest only just have bits and pieces of those qualities. as max matsuura said, there can never be another great artist like ayu.

kuu is... iono. it's off and on. she's becoming immaturely skanky. makes me wanna puke at times... and at other times, i like her again for her songs like "i'll be there" and "wind".
and for boa? typical. nothing fascinating about her. there's so many artists like her, rising and coming. songs nowadays all have the same scenario just written in different ways. it's rather terribly boring.

i thought i should stay neutral and just say i love them all, but i wanted to dip my toe into the water a bit deeper, hehehehe.
