why are the names in the list written in traditional chinese characters rather than japanese??

Grantith 28th May 2003 06:51 PM

Tomiko Van is gorgeous!!!!!!!!! She should be up there!!!!!!! I think Kaori Mochida is too, but I think her style is too different to be in the top 10 according to the averages person's ranking. I still think she's pretty. :)

Unmarried as far as I know. Her real name is 伴 都美子 (Ban Tomiko).

datz japanese kanji

japanese culture and chiense culture and closely linked, the japanese "borrowed" chinese words as used as their own called kanji

so kanji and chinese characters are almost the same

Grantith 28th May 2003 09:49 PM

Mimika, I'm pretty sure that's the traditional Chinese. 'cause that's not how Ayu writes her name in Japanese.

No one really knows for sure why she goes by "Van." She writes in her name Kanji as "Ban" (like nmskalmn showed). So it might just be 'cause the "V" is not a traditional Japanese sound so she uses it to make her name cool and interesting sorta. Like Ayu writes "Ayumi" in hiragana. Traditionally it would be in Kanji, but she writes it in Hiragana to make it different or cool.
