It's quite unfortunate that she's most prob be remembered for One Thing only as she has other great songs like Touch , Take Control

she's quite under-rated but I don't like the fact that she's changing her image just for the sake of fitting in/selling out of sorts to the masses

"That's pretty difficult to say, only because of the record label at this point. We started off with "Feedback" and the label and myself haven't quite seen eye to eye since the "Feedback" single so they’ve kind of basically stopped all promotion. I'm trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album so I don’t think you're going to hear another single off this album."

I'm not sure what exactly they wanted her to do..but Janet clearly didn't wanna do it.

To me, it sounds like they might have wanted her to release only the songs they picked as singles, and she didn't like their choices.

Very interesting, thanks. :)

^I heard her label didn't want her to include her trademark spoken interludes on Discipline (I can't blame them), but she decided to include them anyway and thus they were reluctant to promote the album.

Honestly, Amerie is lucky Def Jam enlisted such exceptionally talented and sought-after producers for her next album.

I kinda agree, I mean, they're getting such big names for her, though it doesn't matter that much, since most of the names from Touch and Because I Love It I've only seen there and not anywhere else.

But uh, yeah, her opportunities seem to have broadened with Def Jam, so I hope she can use them to their full potential. I just listened to Touch yesterday, it was so nice. I wish I could find Because I Love It, but it's lost. D:

I think 1 Thing is the only song I know by her, and thats after having to check her top songs on iTunes to even realize it was her that sang it. I don't think they were doing a good job with promotion before so if they have to sex up her image in order to boost sales, then I say go ahead. It certainly worked for Koda Kumi.

I think Amerie has been all over the place career-wise for a long time. I miss her first album and the singles "Talkin' 2 Me" and "Why Don't We Fall In Love" :heart

Her best song:

But that's Japan, not America. As you should know, everything here is sexed up, so she wouldn't be no different from the other singers who have a sexed-up image. Koda Kumi was different from the female singers at the time as she popularized female sexuality. A way that a female singer would dare do or even go that route. =/ Japan got horny and ate it up. :lmfao

Yeah, I realize that Shannese. I wasn't making a reference to Koda Kumi in seriousness or as a way of rationalizing how sexing up Amerie's image would cause a considerable increase in popularity since it worked for Koda Kumi in another country.

And not everyone in America is sexed up. There are plenty of famous artists today who don't use overt sexuality as a part of their marketing campaigns. Being sexy and using gratuitous sexuality are two very different things. Kuu's sexuality is intensely gratuitous. Many Americans artists may have a sexy image, but in most cases it isn't to the point where it's considered offensive. You may see Miley Cyrus wearing a short skirt and small top, but you'll never see her suck on her middle finger sexually then flip off the audience.

Before she was too normal. The only thing that the people around my school liked One Thing was her legs. Wow she has great legs. Her style before was too boring. It didn't attract enough attention. One thing Def Jam does well is getting the attention. This image will get people's attention. As long as the songs aren't as boring as the one in Touch, I'm all for change.

Yeah, I agree I don't think comparing Amerie or any American singer to Kuu or the Japanese market is a good idea. Sexing it up would not necessarily work for Amerie, IMO.
