it's possible that I can like artists that are complete opposites of each other, you know!

MemorialAddress 9th December 2008 12:09 AM

Well, I really did watch those 2 other live performances you linked, and I can still safely say that she just doesn't sound good to me :no
The little droaning and moaning on thing she has going on just does not appeal to me.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm trying to tell you.

Are you delusional? I seriously think you are.

What If is no where near a rip-off of Tori Amos's song (yes I've heard it)

The lyrics are completely different.... did you only mention it because both songs say 'what if' in the chorus.
The tune is completely different as well. In fact the only thing they have in common there is the fact that there's a piano involved.
What If is a song full of irony.... the lyrics are genius and they make you think, her voice is stunning.
It is powerful, unique, interesting and completely unedited.

The simple fact is... is that the woman is talented... more talented than the majority of the music industry today.
Her vocals range to downright bizarre and extraordinarily beautiful. she can go from screaming at you in one moment and lulling you to sleep in the next.

What other artist can do that?

It seems to me that you people just don't want to like her and so you won't give her a chance.
Perhaps if you were a little more open-minded to her music......

I'll try and disregard the fact that you clearly know absolutely nothing about the technical aspects of music. That was made blatantly obvious when you said Emilie had a better range than Mariah, etc. Do you even know what an octave is? And don't answer that after you look it up on Wikipedia. Just know that Mariah can sing in about four more of them than Emilie.

I listened to Emilie's music. I previewed her entire Opheliac album on iTunes and watched multiple live performances on Youtube, but just didn't see what's great or even original about her. To me she sounds like every other Hot Topic, Nightwish-wannabe out there. You have to accept that not everyone is going to love her, and that they aren't close-minded simply because they don't enjoy her music or see her talent.

Btw...

Björk, to name one of many.

Björk, to name one of many.

First of all I didn't say she had a better range than Mariah, I just said she uses her range better... she doesn't have to start wailing in the middle of the song to prove that she can sing in a higher register.... so I'll disregard everything in that paragraph

Secondly..... well you're just..... wrong... to put it simply
You are trying to tell me that a woman who can play at least 6 different instruments amazingly well, who can composes entirely original songs and who writes every single songs she brings out isn't talented?

There is something wrong with that statement!

I don't care that you don't love her.... it's not the fact that you don't love her that's annoying me... it's the fact that you are completely disregarding the fact that she's talented.... and yes it is a fact.

I also said if you were open-minded to her music. I can tell that you've gone into her music with a negative mind and from that you aren't going to like it.

And yes, okay, Björk is great.... I know this, I've like her since I was 4 years old.

And where the hell did you get Nightwish from.... now they really don't sound anything alike...... seriously..... what.... the ..... hell

I think you are just about the only person I've met who can seriously sit there and tell me that Emilie isn't talented.

And you're still wrong.....

bondingo 9th December 2008 01:14 AM

Talent isn't a fact, hun. And you might wanna reread my posts before saying I ever said she didn't have talent. I said I don't think she has a good voice and that I don't like her music. Not once did I say that I personally think she has no talent.

And I'm wrong because I disagree with you? Why do so many people on this board live by that standard?

The fact that you didn't ONCE mention that she had any talent and focussed only on what you didn't like kind of made it seem as though you didn't think she had any talent.

I still don't believe you can truly understand the beauty of what she is singing and how she is singing it until you have seen it for yourself, live on stage... just Emilie and her Bloody Crumpets.

Indeed it is similar.

Also regarding Emilie's singing...

Live it seems her voice is lackluster and flat (that doesn't fully describe it but I can't think of any other words right now). Granted, for some music that works but for her I'd have to say it doesn't.

Excluding her vocals her music it reminds me of Switchblade Symphony and Rasputina.

Though she does seem to be a creative person.

Through Lives can bring a whole different side to the artists because of costumes, interaction with the audiance and so on. Some are even known for thier live shows.

It makes me wonder what her live shows are like...

MemorialAddress 9th December 2008 01:53 AM

Bloody Crumpets? LMAO!

Lackluster and flat? Uhhhh......no. After attending two live shows, I can tell you without any doubt that this is not the case. In fact her voice sounds just as good as - sometimes better - than it does on the studio versions of her songs. (And no this isn't just rantings of a fan, I'm usually very critical even of things I like)

The main reason for this will be the equipment her live performances are recorded with, i.e. fans' phones or cheap video cameras. Emilie doesn't have the luxury of expensive film crews for her shows, so the only live videos you're going to find anywhere will have been recorded by audience members. As a music fan yourself, I don't have to tell you just how much this can screw with the audio quality.

If you really want to pass judgement on her live singing ability, I'd wait until her first Live DVD comes out next year.

As a sidenote, you wonder what her live shows are like in general? I think you'll find they're something like this...

Adrian20 9th December 2008 02:11 AM

Alright that's it. I'm closing this thread.

This woman has brought too much confusion, arguments, anger, conflict, fights, existencial doubts if you will... next thing you know riots. People calling each other names...

IF we continue there will be no talking about Politics, Religion & Emilie Autumn in AHS.

Spoiler:
Alright I'm not a MOD I can't close this thread :P

this is all Chelsea Ryan from Facebook's fault tho... for opening this thread.

MemorialAddress 9th December 2008 04:37 AM

HEY!
I was just trying to broaden the children of AHS' horizons to new musical genres! :weep
I haven't been rude about Emilie. All I've been is honest :)

Wow, well this thread is coming to an end already.

MD-Kiryu 9th December 2008 09:11 PM

Closing the thread? That seems a bit much. As has been pointed out, it was only so recently created.

I do however have a message for all those who have posted here, or those who would like to - this should be a place to appreciate the works of this artist, not to critisize them. If you are not a fan of Emilie Autumn and do not have anything complimentary to say, then do not say anything at all.

The thing that irritates fans of something more than anything on a forum is someone making a post that's only intent is to show dislike for the subject matter. This has been shown clearly here. It would be a shame if fans of Emilie do not have a place to discuss her on AHS, and it should not be due to the faults of a few tactless posters that true fans should lose this oppurtunity to discuss their favourite artist.

To repeat my earlier statement, this should be a place to appreciate her work, not bad-mouth it.

I hope that this will help people to see sense and stop acting so immature, on both sides of the argument.

Very true.

I was thinking of trying to find a way to go to a live show of hers. If theres a live DVD next year I just may purchase that and go to a live show. It seems interesting...Thanks for posting a photo.

Are you just a CaseNumber troll account? Or maybe you're her friend and she just asked you to back her up :shrug
Either way, that doesn't change the fact that not eveyone in this world has to agree with you that this Emilie person has a good voice / talent.
Opinions vary from person to person, there's nothing you can do about it lol

Firstly, no I am not a troll account and secondly, I never said I didn't accept that people won't agree with me.

I am trying to diffuse all of the tension here, and posts like yours are not helping. I perfectly accept that people may not like her, and that's fine - all I was saying is that if people do not like her music, why are they posting on a thread dedicated to her?

That would be like walking into a church and declaring you don't believe in god - if it's not relavent to you, why bother doing it? All this will do is start arguments with Emilie's dedicated fans and lead to childish mud-slinging.

Yes, I am a huge Emilie Autumn fan, but of course I accept that she will not be liked by everyone. My earlier post was just to point out that the sort of videos one will find on sites like youtube will not give a fair representation of her voice.

This should be a place for fans to appreciate her music, not for people to be immature and start arguments.
