Wow there are still people who think 31 is old? Kill yourselves.

It is old in the entertainment industry.

It has nothing to do with personal opinions.

Namie is "older" and has been around forever.

Therefore it's probably very cool that she would have followings with people in totally different age groups.

That's so true.
n Tana, dont take that word "OLD" in a negative/too serious way dear^^

By who's standards? 31 isn't old by any means. And I have heard NO ONE in the entertainment industry call someone in their 30s old. Patricia Field even called her young.

Ironic.

"older" and "old" have different meanings. Saying "she's all old" gives off a different connotation by far.

That makes no sense.

Namie is cool because she has a cool image. Plus the fact that she's 31 and still looks great for her age is a plus. I wonder how many times I'll need to reteirate this.

Read her post more carefully :rolleyes

DOLCE 4th February 2009 05:37 PM

If Namie is so old why does she still constantly appear on the cover of magazines geared towards younger women? :rolleyes

You all should have at least some grasp of the Japanese entertainment industry by now, Namie would not be getting those covers if she was all frumpy and old.

CoriKaru 4th February 2009 06:02 PM

I think Anna Tsuchiya fits this category. I guess Kumi Koda smiles too much and too big to fit this list. Other than that, I would put her on. Namie never smiles so it's no wonder she made it. She "tries" to be cool. And she pulls it off rather well in her videos. I want to say you can still smile and be cool but then that would defeat my Kumi Koda statement so I'll cease and desist for now.

Namie IS old. I mean, how many mainstream idols are there out there who are older than her? Not many. People need to just accept the fact that she is really old, and she's starting to look her age.

tanachu 4th February 2009 08:20 PM

Nowadays, age is mostly a number. Hell, 60 is the new 50, so I cannot understand why people choose to be so ageist (though we all know kang is doing it to troll) and seriously hold onto that ignorant mentality. If you seriously think like that in real life, then you need to get off of your computers and see just how active people in their 30s 40s and 50s can be. It's not like you age 10 years once you turn 30. Get a ****ing clue.

Ever heard of Seiko Matsuda? Age never stopped her from bouncing around like a cheerleader. You're clueless and out of touch bigtime.

It wasn't supposed to be derogatory. Fine we will refrain from calling Namie "old". But there is no doubt that she is older, and I think she has gained a lot of respect in the fact that she is still performing, getting all those covers, as Dolce felt it necessary to point out, and still has hit releases.

Much in the way Seiko has. The fact that she looks younger, would only make her cooler to women.

I don't think it's only her image that makes her cool but of course it's a big part.

So what's your point? Namie is OLD n that's bad ?
I only agree the fact that's she old = long time singing, but 32 is totally not old at all.

CoriKaru 5th February 2009 07:24 AM

Namie is only 30 whatever years old. She has a nice long career in front of her if she wants it. She's not old.

Now it's even up for discussion if 40 is old. 40 year old celebrities looking like their in their 20s and stuff. Yes, they have Make Up Artists and Aesthetic Procedures at their disposal so in a way they're creating their own fountain of youth, but I'd take a sip too if I needed it. It's working.

Regardless of all that though, Namie isn't old.

mcluva420 5th February 2009 07:45 AM

wooo!! grats 2 namie<33

people!!! namie is a year older than ayu! if youre callin namie old, then ur callin ayu old too o_0

AGE AINT NOTHIN BUT A NUMBER~! jeez. ppl r so "ageist" D:

Actually, if you think that Seiko Matsuda is a "mainstream idol" today like I said, you're the out of touch one. Namie's the oldest of today's major female singers, and you can't deny that.

emi♡ 5th February 2009 09:02 PM

omg.

The only reason why I even said that was because she is old in the industry.

I mean she was immensely popular even before people even heard about Ayu.

like 1995 and ****. Think about it. I was 5 years old at the time. That is a long time to me.

And she's still popular, and she's still coming out with awesome stuff, that imo sounds better than anything she used to release, but that's probably just my tastes.

They may only be one or two years apart, but Namie has like years on Ayu in the industry and even more on other popular singers.

Uemarasan 5th February 2009 10:06 PM

It's not about how old you are, it's about how old you look.

I didn't realize that Namie fans these days are so defensive. Maybe it's because they're new? Back in the day, I rarely encountered people so rabid about her. This was before Queen of Hip-Pop.

I do think Ayu is cool in ways that Namie isn't (like writing all of her own lyrics, for one thing). But cool is overrated anyway. The worship of cool is so 80s/90s. I'd take class over cool any time.

CoriKaru 5th February 2009 10:13 PM

*Chokes* Ayumi writes ALL of her own lyrics? :/

Yup, I'll put my faith in that belief, and I know others would be more skeptical. But you have to believe in something in this world.

I don't see any other evidence to the contrary. Even that site that claims she took phrases from other songs seems to have been put up by some moron who thinks writing equals the sum of all its parts. This person obviously has no idea what the writing process entails. Writing is not done in a vacuum. It takes inspiration and ideas from everywhere.

Calico 6th February 2009 01:36 AM

I think the "old" comments come from Namie being over 30 and still doing great in the JAPANESE industry. Traditionally, once you hit 30, you were no longer considered "fresh" and pretty much took a dip in popularity. Namie has done the opposite. Of course today in Japan that old "tradition" seems to be declining, which I think is great, but you have to consider that the Japanese entertainment industry has been pretty ageist itself.

Hazuki 6th February 2009 01:42 AM

^ :yes

BTW, maybe Maya Miki doesn't look COOL in that picture,
but in reality, she has a really nice personality and she is cool!
