I like ballads more than bubble gum pop, so considering that, what do you think I should start with that's more recent? I know so many of their singles by name but I have no idea what their style is like.

Btw, how is Arashi sssooo successful with single sales and then their album sales are horrible (excluding this new Best)? I wiki'd them and their 2008 album was like #30 on the yearly charts and none of their albums have even gotten to a million. But their singles sell like Coca cola in the middle of a desert!

and that's just a JE pattern. fangirls really just buy singles more than albums because of various reasons. the prices are cheaper and you get multiple versions and stuff. it's hard to explain. irene knows better than me :yes but that just dosen't happen with arashi. it happens with most johnny's entertainment boy groups.

Arashi tops '09 album sales

Arashi's "All the BEST! 1999-2009" has just captured the crown for the highest sales of any album in 2009. The collection has now sold 1.240 million copies, barely passing Mr.Children's "SUPERMARKET FANTASY."

"All the BEST!" sold 753,000 copies in the first week after its release on August 19, setting this year's record for first-week sales. Now, in its fifth week, it sold 40,000 more copies to push it past the 1.239 million total of Mr.Children's album. That one, however, has been on sale for 41 weeks, starting in December 2008.

Arashi already holds this year's current highest selling single ("Believe / Kumori Nochi, Kaisei" with 655,000 copies) and music DVD ("ARASHI AROUND ASIA 2008 in Tokyo" with 401,000 copies).

I would recommend also watching their tv shows. In Japan groups like SMAP and Arashi did not get popular solely by their music, but in large part by the combination of their personalities. A database of all their tv shows that have been subtitled can be found here: http://yuckie-chan.livejournal.com/9151.html. I recommend starting with either Mago Mago Arashi or D no Arashi.

In addition to the ballads already posted, I would also highly recommend their best selling single last year, Truth. It's not a ballad but it's certainly not bubblegum pop either.

Johnny's lack of album sales has always been interesting because there is no doubt that groups like SMAP, Arashi, Kinki Kids etc are popular with the general public as well as fan girls, yet often times their original album sales aren't that high. I think it goes back for several decades now because Jonny's album tracks traditionally just have not been very good but I see it making a change for the better this last 3 or 4 years.

I wonder if the concert that will be broadcast is the one from Disney Sea? I hope so!
