But the highest she's been hitting recently is an E flat ("GREEN," "Rule"), two half steps below the "F" she used to hit.

So, seems like she has a little under three octaves...

But that's just the information I can gather as a singer myself. This isn't from any other kind of source. :P

may i ask the songs that she hits those notes?^^

It's probably constantly changing, no? She used to be able to hit certain notes back in the day but now she's huskier.

I don't know anything about vocal range or octaves, but the once immensely popular Jpop singer (who is still active) named Misia has a five octave vocal range and she sings well, really amazing and can hit notes that most can't. What I'm trying to get to is that Ayu's is probably lower (?).

Yes. MISIA is like omg.
she always use her 5 octave in her songs..<3

Sure!

She hits an F in kanariya (nakanai to kimeta dake / ka mo shirenai to).

She also hits an F in TO BE, at the end of the chorus (kimi ga inakya).

Oh, and Duty (shritaku nakatta n da).

Those are all the songs I can think of off the top of my head...

Her range has certainly decreased, even within a year or so. In her I am... album, she goes up to an E (Connected: kimi to datte mou sude ni) and an E flat (I am...: ikiisogu sama wa; Dearest: Ah- deatta ano ko ro wa; A Song is born, last chorus: mou ichido dake).

The lowest I ever heard her sing was an F, which can be heard in forgiveness (kao wo shite arukidasu).

And, now, she's certainly getting back up there. She hits an E flat at the end of GREEN's final chorus (kono omoi tsutae you ka) and at the last "yeah" at the end of Rule.

(Oh, and since I have a feeling people are wondering or may ask, the highest she hits in M is an E flat. :P)

I hope this helps! :innocent

^ Wow... I've noticed your sig used to have a line speaking of a thread coming soon... about which key/scale her songs are in? Is it still on? I'm really interested in that lol

Chibi_Venus 29th September 2009 02:52 AM

^ Yeah, I really want to make a thread which lists what key each of Ayu's songs are in. :) I put it on hold for a little bit, but I will continue to work on it. Just slowly. XD Some songs I'm pretty sure I figured out, but there are plenty of others for me to figure out. :P
