I can't believe it... :( Her dad died when she was younger so she is without parents now...and as I'm sure some of you know her brother is in jail I can't imagine what she is going through right now. My thoughts go out to her family :weep

Gomaki's mother - did she fall or jump? Unconscious and in critical condition

The mother of Gotou Maki (24), former member of the popular idol group Morning Musume, was found on the 23rd on the premises of her Edagawa-ku (Tokyo) home having fallen, with blood pouring from her head and other parts. She was rushed to a local hospital, but remains unconscious and in a critical condition.

Komatsugawa Police are investigating the full details of the incident. According to sources from the station, it appears to have been a suicide attempt by jumping from the 3rd storey.

Gotou's father having died when she was in elementary school, her mother worked at a restaurant while raising her four children.

In her first year of junior high school, Gotou was accepted into the third generation of Morning Musume through auditions. Their first single with the new members, LOVE MACHINE, was what gave the group their big break. Having joined the star group, Gotou was able to buy a house for her mother with her income, and continued to support her by paying the family bills.

On the other hand, her younger brother (23), who also formerly performed in an idol unit, not only got into an argument with a manager before running away in 2001 (while still a minor), but in 2002 news of his underage drinking came to light and he retired from the world of entertainment. Furthermore, in October 2007, he struck a guard at a Shibuya construction site before stealing electrical cabling, and was arrested on charges of mugging and inflicting injury. In May 2008 he received a prison sentence of five years and six months. Despite all of this, the mother continued to support the family, although according to the residents of the neighbourhood, her health had worsened and she was sick with some ailment of the liver.

Oh my... my condolences to Maki and her family.

Reading the rest of the article, I have far more respect than I initital had for Maki. Girl truly is a fighter.

I was saddened when I saw the news. This is terrible =( I hope Maki is handling it okay.

Same with me, I have so much more respect for her now. For some reason I always got the impression that she came from a pretty well off family...but that obviously wasn't the case.

I hope Maki's handling everything okay. Poor Girl.
